Round up your mates and get your squad together as Ubisoft have just revealed their latest entry in the Ghost Recon franchise. Titled Ghost Recon Frontline, the game is a free-to-play, tactical action, massive PVP shooter grounded in the renowned Ghost Recon universe.

Revealed during a 20th anniversary showcase celebrating two decades since the original entry in the series, the title has been in the works for three years at Ubisoft Bucharest and will be available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Stadia and Luna. It will also feature cross-play so fans need not worry about the rest of their squad being on different platforms to them.

“A new take on the battle royale genre”

Ubisoft are hoping to jump on-board the ever-expanding list of developers getting involved with the battle royale genre. Having looked at the success of both Epic Games and Infinity Ward with their Fortnite and Warzone licences, the developer has clearly  thought what better way to get their foot through the door than with their Tom Clancy Ghost Recon franchise.

A series already  focused upon military tactics, Ghost Recon veterans should slip easily into battle-royale gameplay by having experience of being  in charge of conceived squads in previous Ghost Recon ventures.

“Unbound tactical freedom”

The game will be looking to put you in control of every strategic decision there is, giving free reigns for you and your fellow squad members to optimise your military tactics.

Speaking on the games website, Ubisoft have announced that “Ghost Recon Frontline features an advanced class system and large set of tactical support tools allowing for complete freedom in strategic gameplay, with multiple ways to outsmart enemy teams and win every fight.”

“Switch between different contractors, even in the heat of battle. Shape the battlefield around you by calling in tactical reinforcements such as deadly auto-turrets, smoke screen drones and massive barricades.”

“There is always more than one way to win, and it is entirely up to what kind of strategic approach you will take.”

Class-Based Squads

As already mentioned, the game will focus upon teaming up with other players from around the world to help put together a squad through a “deep and impactful class system”.

“Once players are done collecting intel, they will have to head to a drop zone and call for an extraction. When initiated, all teams will know the position of the extraction and will try to intervene, players will have to play tactically to successfully escape and win the match.”

“Featuring more than 100 players in teams of three, these squads will have to work together to complete dynamic objectives across the massive open map with no converging circle.”

No doubt this will cause debate amongst your squad as to who really is the tactical genius of the group, so let’s hope Ubisoft can make each member feel like they’ve got what it takes.

MASSIVE BATTLEGROUND

With 100+ players it should come as no surprise the game will feature a huge map for players to battle in.

The Ghost Recon Frontline website invites us to “Discover Drakemoor Island, an open world full of diverse environments at the heart of the conflict.”

“Consisting of multiple landmarks and distinct biomes, from high mountains to ruthless arid lands, and ever-changing weather conditions, Drakemoor Island requires unyielding adaptation.”

Ubisoft are offering players the chance to be involved in a closed test for the game which will run from October 14-21 on PC in over 20 European countries. Players can register to participate here.
