Microdis are publishing a new game based on the Grendizer Franchise, under development by Endroad. The game is slated for a 2023 release date

What is Grendizer?

Grendizer is the third entry in the Historic “Mazinger” series of anime and manga, created by Go Nagai. Mazenger Z, the first entry, may not have *technically* being the first ever Mecha series, it was hugely influential and defined the “Super Robot” subgenre of mecha. Super Robot series tend to treat the Robot as more of a superhero than an actual machine. They are typically either Ancient, alien or created by mad genius, and will typically fight using Called attacks and super powers. Popular instances of Super Robot shows are Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Gurren Lagann and, for a western example, Pacific Rim.

Grendizer (known as “Force Five: Grendizer” in america) tells the story of the fight between the planet Fleed and the evil Vegan empire. The mecha itself is piloted by the prince of Fleed, in disguise as the masked hero Duke Fleed.

What is this game about?

What the game will be like is currently unknown, but we do know that it is classed as an “action game”, although what that means is unclear. They have also said that the game will “grant the nostalgic gamers the chance to play as Duke Fleet and his great robot and enjoy epic adventures.”

Colomban Cicéron, Game director at Endroad, had this to say on the game:

• “We have been working fervently on the Grendizer project, aiming at the highest quality to please the fans and the newcomers alike that didn’t get the chance to be introduced to Duke Fleed (Daisuke Umon in Japan) and his friends. This is such an abounding universe that deserves the most focused attention to detail. We are all fans of this IP we grew up with and we’re fully dedicated in providing players the game they’ve been dreaming about for decades. We are exceedingly grateful to be able to work on this IP and will do our very best to deliver an exceptional gaming experience.”

There is also a small teaser trailer for the game out now. It doesn’t show much, but will definitely be exciting for fans of the series.
