To celebrate the festive season, a new themed event has been added to Halo Infinite. This event will be based around the holiday season  and brings some new content to Halo Infinite. During Winter Contingency, players will be able to advance through a free battle pass and gain armour, weapon skins, and other cosmetics, similar to the Fracture: Tenrai event.

The event was announced yesterday in a Twitter post on the official Halo page.

The event, dubbed “Winter Contingency,” will run a little longer than Halo Infinite’s previous event, Fracture: Tenrai, which lasted only a week. The Winter Contingency will begin on December 21 and end on January 4, 2022.  The second week of the Fracture: Tenrai event is set to begin on January 4, 2022.

Players will be able to gain cosmetics by just playing a game each day. Moving through the game’s pass and collecting stuff that way should be easier because to Halo Infinite’s new challenge modifications, as discussed in a recent Halo Waypoint post.

A recent update for Halo Infinite insured that players will see more event challenges in their queue, in addition to removing or adjusting the complexity of a number of the game’s challenges. However, there will be a limited number of tasks for players to complete, so it’s possible that you might not be able to complete the entire pass.

Xbox has teased that there will be four new titles coming to Game Pass for PC on their release day.

To be announced on December 9th.

The Xbox Game Pass for PC Twitter account teased 4 new titles to be announced at TGAs, as well as a rundown of the already announced games joining the service in a fictional ‘leaked’ email.

Among the Day One PC games joining the service is Starfield, Slime Rancher 2, and Redfall. Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator certainly sounds… interesting! It’s apparently set to join Game Pass today, so I’ll have to see what that’s all about.

(By the way, kudos to one ‘Melissa McGamepass’ for including her pronouns in her email tag.)

Coming up is also Halo Infinite (Cloud, console, PC) on December 8, One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 (Cloud, console, PC) on December 9, and Aliens: Fireteam Elite (Cloud, console, PC) and Among US (console) on December 14. Looking forward to a sussy festive season.

Xbox Game Pass has received a plethora of games in the past month, including Anvil (console, PC), Archvale (Cloud, console, PC), Final Fantasy XIII-2 (console, PC), Lawn Mowing Simulator (Cloud, console, PC), Rubber Bandits (Cloud, console, PC), Stardew Valley (Cloud, console, and PC) and Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector (Cloud, console, PC).

Man, I’m kind of regretting having bought Stardew Valley on four different platforms now. I should have counted on the ever expanding Game Pass service.

Xbox’s subscription service Game Pass just gets better and better, it’s library constantly expanding with new additions for members to play.

While they’re usually straightforward in their announcements, and this month we’re getting Forza Horizon 5, It Takes Two, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, among others, they occasionally like to tease a release to get the excitement going.

Yesterday evening, the official account posted this tweet.

Things are going to get a bit…orange this week

Just what game could this be referring to? There’s a few possibilities.

One such theory is that the tweet refers to Valve Corporation’s game collection, The Orange Box. Originally released in 2007, The Orange Box included Half-Life 2 and its two episodes, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. This collection was initially released on PC and Xbox 360, then added for the PlayStation 3 a couple months months later. It’s playable on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles today via backward compatibility, but not currently available on Xbox Game Pass. Yet!

If it’s not that, though, there are a few other possibilities

Maybe it’s the newly-released Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. The Smash Bros.-style fighter game stars iconic characters from Nickelodeon TV series. While I think this is less likely, Nickelodeon is heavily tied with the colour orange. I won’t completely rule it out as a possibility, as it would be a great move for Game Pass to snag more subscriptions and hype.

Another famous “orange” in video games is the iconic character Crash Bandicoot, perhaps a Crash Bandicoot game could be on the way.

Game Pass still offers the best value for money over any gaming subscription service.

If you’re looking to bag a great gaming deal this Black Friday, I highly recommend investing in a gaming subscription service. If you haven’t heard of these yet, they offer access to a library of games for a monthly or yearly fee – much like Netflix, but for video games.

This service suits the medium well. If we’re being honest, how often do you replay your games? Besides a few favourites, we usually play a single-player game once and then move on from it. Or even if it’s an MMO or any game of that variety, we usually move on to something new eventually.

That’s why I love Microsoft’s Game Pass. It lets me try out new games without sinking so much money into them (and then feeling obligated to finish it).

Of all the available subscription services, including PSNOW and Nintendo Switch Online, Xbox‘s Game Pass is the cream of the crop. You can get access to just Game Pass for £7.99 monthly, or Game Pass Ultimate for £10.99 a month. The best part is Ultimate includes Xbox Live Gold, which alone would cost £6.99. So if you’re using it for online services anyway, Game Pass is just an additional £4. This is much better value than PSNOW’s £8.99 price tag, and Game Pass (in my experience and opinion) has a much better catalogue.

Ultimate also includes day-one access to Xbox first-party games, cloud gaming, member discounts and deals, and a plethora of perks. So far, I’ve gotten four months of Spotify Premium, and three months of Discord Nitro, completely free with Ultimate. The best part is I didn’t even pay £10.99 for access to these: I got my first month of Ultimate for £1. That’s an offer that refreshes every now and then, and I always take it. I’m not super into online gaming, so the rest of the time I just go for Game Pass by itself.

Here’s some of the games I’ve discovered and loved from Game Pass: Sunset Overdrive, The Walking Dead by Telltale Series, Dishonored series, The Outer Worlds (LOVED this!), Doom Eternal, Untitled Goose Game, OXENFREE, Limbo, Nier: Automata, Overcooked 2.

While some of those are unfortunately no longer available, the rota of games is fantastic. The Yakuza series and Wolfenstein are available too. You will find something that excited you – I can guarantee it.
