Further Shenmue 3 update, this time with the breakdown of each Kickstarter stretch goal revealed.

After yesterday’s update, when series creator Yu Suzuki discussed further into the idea surrounding the Kickstarter initiative, stating that Sony nor Shibuya Productions will not see a “cent” of the donations, whilst also vaguely discussing stretch goals. We’ve been giving a further update today, a breakdown of the specific stretch goals:

• $6 million: Battle system expanded; advanced free battle.
• $6.5 million: Battle system expanded; ragdoll reaction.
• $7 million: Battle system expanded; AI battling.
• $7.5 million: Battle system expanded; high ground battle system.
• $8 million: Choubu area expanded; mini games x4.
• $8.25 million: Choubu area expanded; betting games x4.
• $8.5 million: Choubu area expanded; kung-fu mastery.
• $9 million: Choubu area expanded; part-time job.
• $10 million: Bailu village expanded; mini games x4.
• $10.25 million: Bailu village expanded; betting games x4.
• $10.5 million: Bailu village expanded; kung-fu mastery.
• $11 million: Bailu village expanded; magic maze.

As off today, the Kickstarter project funding currently stands at $3.6 million with 21 days left. Yu Suzuki will be holding a Twitch stream, Friday, June 26th at 7:00pm PDT (Saturday, June 27th 2:00AM GMT), to discuss the game in further detail.  With updates to follow in the next couple weeks, be sure to watch this space!

Shenmue series creator has confirmed Sony and Shibuya Productions will not gain any money from Kickstarter project.

One of Sony’s big announcements during E3 was that Shenmue may be getting a long awaited third game in its hit series. Series creator Yu Suzuki, began a Kickstarter initiative, asking the public for initial funding to begin work on Shenmue 3 and in the process of this, smashing its initial target of $2 million. Suzuki has come out and addressed questions in relation to the funding of Shenmue 3 and Sony’s involvement in an updated post on the Kickstarter page.

Yu Suzuki writes in the statement, “It is also important to note that your funds are going strictly to Ys Net for development of Shenmue 3 – Sony and Shibuya Productions are not seeing a cent of your Kickstarter dollars.”

As well as clearing this up, Suzuki also shared some of his ideas for the game if the Kickstarter funding reached certain goals; ” Like with any Kickstarter, additional funding will only help us make a better game. On top of everything Shenmue 3 will already bring, the Stretch Goals that I have laid out will add extra quests, events, and new gameplay systems that will make the game even more immersive and take the series to the next level. At the $5 million mark, there will be an all new gameplay feature I would be excited to be able to add to the Shenmue legacy. If we should make the $10 million Stretch Goal, a much larger, completely open world will be yours to explore.”

The series creator added, “Even if these Stretch Goals are not reached, Shenmue 3 will already be a sequel true to its name, and one we can all be proud of. It is my hope though, that together we can make this Shenmue just as revolutionary as the first two were.”

At long last, the hit Shenmue series from Dreamcast may be getting a new game on the NextGen consoles. 

Shenmue series creator, Yu Suzuki, appeared on stage at Sony’s conference at E3 yesterday to announce the Kickstarter initiative. The developer is asking for $2 million in initial funding from the public to be able to begin work on Shenmue 3. The project has already reached $1.7 million as of this morning and is fully expected to reach its target so start getting excited!  However, even though this announcement was made during the Song press conference, it is believed that it will not be exclusive to PlayStation 4.
