The game seems to be following the anime’s footsteps…

The anime which took the world by storm last October had its own game released this October, Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, and it is doing similarly well.

Sales for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles have reached over a million units worldwide. This includes physical versions of the game, as well as digital ones. The game’s official Twitter account thanks players from around the world for its support and asks them to continue enjoying the world of Demon Slayer through the game.

The same tweet also affirms there will be a free DLC update that adds new playable characters.

So far, Akaza and Rui have been announced. Both of them are Twelve Kizuki demons who proved themselves troublesome foes for Tanjiro and Kyojuro. In total, six characters will appear in-game as part of free updates.

The Demon Slayer anime is available on streaming services such as Crunchyroll and Funimation. Right now, the anime is airing the Mugen Train arc. From December 5, 2021, Demon Slayer will enter the Entertainment District Arc.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. You can see the launch trailer for the game below, although I must inform any Sub fans like myself that the trailer is indeed Dubbed.

The highly-anticipated video game adaptation of the hit manga and anime series promises it will receive new updates after the initial launch…

In a recent tweet from the official Japanese account for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles, it has been confirmed by the developers CyberConnect2 that a free, post-launch update will be adding additional, playable demons to the game.

This is specifically for the Versus Mode roster, which as it stands, currently features 18 characters players can choose from.

The playable demons haven’t been announced, yet the video game adaptation will take players all the way through to the Mugen Train arc, so any of the demons selected for the roster will have appeared in the storyline until then. The characters announced so far are:

In another update that was featured on the PlayStation blog, a similar announcement was made about plans to release multiple free title updates once the game has launched. It doesn’t mention any details for what fans can expect, however, they do use an image of Rui, the primary antagonist in the Natagumo Mountain Arc, hinting he could be added to the game.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is set to be released in North America and Europe on October 15 2021, one day after it will be released in Japan, and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

PlayStation streamed their latest State of Play showcase last night and we have the rundown of what to look forward to for the upcoming half of the year.

If you aren’t familiar with the event, State of Play is a video programme that happens roughly 3-4 times a year which showcases all the latest updates, announcements, and new trailers from the world of PlayStation.

July’s PlayStation State Of Play

Moss: Book II

The sequel to 2018’s Moss, follows Quill, the extremely brave and cute mouse adventurer, who takes on clockwork monsters, solves puzzles and helps giant spirits navigate the world. Just like the first game, it will be a VR title.

Arcadegeddon

A new multiplayer shooter that is already out in early access for PS5. Explore multiple biomes, play mini-games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemies and boss levels with your friends. It’s set to release in early 2022.

Hunter’s Arena Legends 

A new one-of-a-kind-melee-battle-royale that takes you to a beautifully crafted ancient East Asian world where you must fight deadly demons as well as each other. It’s set to drop on August 3 and will be one of the free titles for PlayStation members during that month.

JETT: The Far Shore

From the creators of Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP, comes an adventure game where you explore space as an intrepid aviation scientist, looking for somewhere to carry on and hopefully, save humanity. It will be released for PS4 and PS5 later this year.

Lost Judgement

The sequel to Yakuza‘s spin-off Judgement sees you play as Takayuku Yagami as he explores the Japanese cities of Kamurocho and Isezaki Ijincho. The game will feature a trial, a “gruesome tragedy”, and a potential revenge plot, even someone being framed for a murder. It’s out on September 24.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut

The Director’s Cut of the highly successful Death Stranding shows off a remastered version of Hideo Kojima’s stunning game, featuring improved melee combat, new weapons, a firing range to practice your skills, new story missions, and so much more. It’s also set to be released on September 24.

Deathloop

Bethesda gave us an extended look at the upcoming action-adventure shooter game that all takes place in a time loop. The footage includes a level of the game and we see Julianna, the rival assassin who will keep main character Colt company, as well as Colt’s special abilities that includes being able to rewind time at the moment of death while the rest of the world stays the same… Deathloop was one of the main features of the showcase and is expected to drop on September 14.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

The new trailer for this anime and manga adaption gives us a shot-for-shot recreation of a scene many fans will be familiar with, making this adaptation just as authentic as its counterparts. We get to see the three main characters battle against demon bosses and the 3D animation for the gameplay has really paid off. More of the game’s expectations can be found here, and it will drop on October 15.

Sifu

The martial arts fighting game developed by Sloclap that puts you in control of a young Kung-Fu student looking for revenge also teased some gameplay at the State of Play showcase. Sadly, it also announced the game is now expecting a 2022 release date instead of its original 2021 release window.

F.I.S.T.

Probably the only game that has you play as a rabbit man with a giant robotic arm, F.I.S.T, otherwise known as Forged in Shadow Torch, is a 2D Metroidvania-style platformer where animals take on machines that have invaded their world. You play as Rayton as he comes out of hiding to save his kidnapped friends. It will be released on September 7.

Tribes of Midgard

This co-op action survival RPG sees you defend your village from nightly raids and giant invaders as Ragnarok steadily approaches. You can also do more than survive with the Tribes’ Saga Mode, as it invites you to see how many weapons you can forge and giants you can slay in under two hours. It is set to release on PS4, PS5 and PC on July 27.

What players can expect regarding the story mode and characters from Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles…

It was only last week that SEGA announced Demon Slayer: The HInokami Chronicles would be getting a Western release, now new details emerge about what we can expect in the gameplay and if done well, it could become another hit for the Demon Slayer franchise.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

Based on the widely popular and record-breaking manga and anime TV series Demon Slayer: Kimestu No Yaiba and developed by CyberConnect2, the upcoming fighting game will feature main characters battling it out in 3D arena environments set in the series’ Taisho Period of Japan. It is said to take inspiration from the developer’s other successful series, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja, by featuring both a story mode and a versus mode.

Very few details had been released so far, yet now Xbox has now outlined what story arcs and characters you can expect when playing the game in this new story trailer.

Story Mode and Characters

Demon Slayer: The HInokami Chronicles is going to draw from not one, but two Demon Slayer arcs, specifically “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve” and “Mugen Train” (everything that has been released in animated form so far). We will see protagonist Tanjiro meet many unique characters on his quest to restore his sister Nezuko’s humanity, with 18 of them being playable characters.

The exciting part of this reveal is several of these characters will be members of the Hashira, the highest group in the Demon Slayer Corporation. For those who are unaware, each Hashira practices a different “breathing style” that helps them in combat situations- a feature that will hopefully be animated well in the game. The three members of Hashira that have been announced for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles so far are Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, and Kyojuro Rengoku (pictured). These members can control Water, Insect and Flame breathing techniques.

Tanjiro’s breathing style “Hinokami Kagura” is said to also be a feature in the game, however, it is uncertain it will be as powerful as it is in manga and anime, to make gameplay more balanced out.

When to Expect Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is set to be released in North America and Europe on October 15 2021, available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. There will also be a Digital Deluxe Edition of Hinokami Chronicles, which will give PC and PS users 8,000 “slayer points,” 3 Butterfly Mansion skins, 12 character avatars for players on PS4, PS5, or Steam, 4 keys to unlock new characters and a custom PS4 theme.

It will be interesting to see how the game plays out but for now, fans will have to anticipatingly wait for October 15.
