Ubisoft has officially ended development support for ghost recon breakpoint. The game launched back in october 2019 and was widely panned by critics and fans alike, which lead to a series of updates intended to improve the game.

The news came in the form of a tweet from the official ghost recon twitter account on tuesday, where ubisoft said the game will not receive any further Content updates.

The Message reads “The last four months marked the release of our final piece of content: the brand new Operation Motherland mode, tons of new items including 20th anniversary iconic outfits and Quartz items for Ghost Recon Breakpoint.

“We will continue to maintain our servers for both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint and we truly hope you will continue to enjoy the game and have fun playing in solo or co-op with your friends.

“From the entire Ghost Recon team, we want to thank you again for your continued support and love you have for the franchise. The feedback you’ve given for Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been instrumental and will help shape the future of the franchise.”

Outside of its already troubled launch, Ghost recon made significant missteps over its lifetime, including the Aforementioned Quartz items for the game. Ingame items tied NTFs (Non Fungible tokens), which were divisive to say the least upon launch and were very widely panned by players and critics alike.

In 2019 Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that Breakpoints poor critical reception was responsible for the delays we saw to watch dogs legion, gods and monsters (later renamed immortals fenyx rising) and rainbow Six Extraction.

NFTs have been a bit of a hot button issue in the past year. Those in favour of them claim that they allow people to own and make money off of Digital art. On the other side, many are at best skeptical of the Idea, given its undeniably large carbon footprint and that the idea of owning Digital art is questionable given that any piece of Art can be Saved in a form that is functionally identical to the “original” NFT.

With this in mind, it probably wasn’t a huge surprise that the announcement of the “Quartz NFT ” Promotion Ubisoft are/were planning to add into Ghost recon: Breakpoint got such a negative response. It was so bad that the announcement has been delisted on youtube. Even with youtube no-longer showing the Dislike number publicly (By the way, there are plugins to re-enable that if you want to), VGC was able to determine that the announcement video had a whopping 90% dislike ratio.

Ubisoft is planning to give away the first 3 NFT Items to players that have logged a large number of hours in the game, with their aim being to make players into “stakeholders” and sees the NFT’s as a way to reward players. Ubisoft also claim their NFT’s are also more environmentally friendly than others, due to them using a different blockchain based on Tezos.

NFT’s are a very contentious topic in the video game space. Aside from the issues with the technology already, Video Games, especially online ones which seem to be the target of NTF integration most of the time, are transient. Eventually the servers of any given game will be taken offline, and with them any NFT’s from the game will be lost. Alongside this, many industry professionals have denounced the tech, Geoff Keighley has explicitly rejected the notion of involving NFT’s in the game awards, Phil Spence has talked negatively of them, and Steam has explicitly banned blockchain games from its store.

Despite this, some game companies are looking more into NFT’s. Neopets, Sega and GameStop have started selling or have looked into selling them. Ubisoft trying to get into space seems almost like a desperate attempt to get Ghost Recount Breakpoint to be notable after a dismal launch. However if this is the companies gamble to get the game back, I am pretty sure its not going to work.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Operation Motherland update release is just so close now! Let’s have a quick look at all the launch details which we know of.

It seems that Operation Motherland is going to be the biggest update for Ghost Recon Breakpoint since its launch. As a result, we can expect to see all sorts of cool new content coming to our screens. This will include the hotly-anticipated Conquest mode as well as improvements to gameplay mechanics and customisation.

What will this Conquest Mode consist of? Apparently, it is new endgame content which will task players in taking back the island of Auroa region by region from the enemy. It will become available through the Objective Board or TacMap and will also feature new Bodark lieutenants and archetypes. These are the lot you need to defeat to free the island from your foes. Sounds exciting, right?

Ghost Recon Breakpoint: Operation Motherland Release Date

The games servers are looking to undergo maintenance on November 2 at 1 am PT/4 am ET/8 am UTC/9 am BST/10 am CEST/5 pm JST. This will approximately last for around 4 hours, which suggests the release time will be at 5 am PT/8 am ET/12 pm UTC/1 pm BST/2 pm CEST on November 2nd.

This won’t just be a normal update for the game. That’s why its taking so long to download, as the size for the PC version of the game is 50 GB, while it is 45 GB on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

In spite of its rocky start, Ghost Recon Breakpoint has continued to receive support from the developers. This has made it a lot better than what it was on its inital release. Let’s hope this update will further improve upon that.

Assassin’s Creed – The Movie

French actress, Marion Cotillard, has signed on to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie!

French actress, Marion Cotillard, is now signed up and a part of the upcoming 2016 Assassin’s Creed film! Although her role has yet to be revealed by Ubisoft or, production company, The New Regency. This is according to Deadline. 

Michael Fassbender has already been cast previously for the film and will now be working alongside Cotillard, which they have previously, and recently, done in an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This was also coincidentally directed by Justin Kurzel, who is directing the Assassin’s Creed film. 

Marion Cotillard, who you will probably recognise from Inception or The Dark Knight Rises, has also previously won an Oscar for her role as Édith Piaf in 2007’s La Vie en Rose. Michael Fassbender was also nominated for an Oscar for his 2013 role in 12 Years a Slave. We’ve recently found out that production has officially started for the Assassin’s Creed film and they will be shooting soon!

The film will hit cinemas on 21st December 2016 and is produced by New Regency and Twentieth Century Fox. This is exactly a week after the Star Wars spin-off film enters the cinema. 

Ubisoft will be retaining it’s creative control through it’s Ubisoft Motion Pictures Group, and are also working on five other films which are based on their games. These are the Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Rabbids franchises.
