Some new details have been released about the huge, online game set in the Assassin’s Creed universe

Earlier this year Ubisoft announced it was making a brand new online platform for the Assassin’s Creed franchise titled Assassin’s Creed Infinity that would take players through different periods of time, unlike the rest of the games that stay in one period of history.

Ubisoft recently gave some updates during an investor briefing that clarifies how far along development is and denied some speculations that had arisen during its last announcement.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity

Ubisoft was asked to comment on the price of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game during the investor briefing which Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot clarified Assassin’s Creed Infinity would not be a free-to-play game. They were also asked to clarify a release date, yet could not comment, however, shared the game is in the early stages of development, and that the game could arrive in 2024 at the latest.

Ubisoft also revealed that the project is in development at both Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec, the two studios that brought us Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey respectively.

What was confirmed was that Assassin’s Creed Infinity is set to bring all the elements the players love from the franchise and will be a live-service game that is similar to Fortnite.

This game is going to have a lot of narrative elements in it. It’s going to be very innovative game, but it will have what players already have in all the other Assassin’s Creed games, all the elements that they love… right from the start. So it’s going to be a huge game. But with lots of elements that already exist in the games that we published in the past. – Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO.

Yet even after these statements, there is very little to go off what type of game Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be and how far away we can expect it to arrive in our online servers. There’s still a long journey ahead before we can receive any more updates on what to expect.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was also in the news for becoming Ubisoft’s second-biggest profit-generating game in history.

Official Xbox Magazine interviews the creative director of Assassin Creed: Syndicate on it’s biggest changes yet

We’re all pretty aware now of the ins and outs of the upcoming Assassins Creed: Syndicate game, but Ubisoft Quebec have recently added the rope launcher to the game. This will undoubtedly give players the ultimate freedom when playing the game.

Creative director of the latest in the AC franchise, Marc-Alexis Côté, spoke to Official Xbox Magazine on how the rope launcher will change the entire game…

OXM: We’ve wanted Victorian London for a long time. Did it need the new generation of consoles to deliver?
Marc-Alexis Côté: I think there were a lot of different ideas that really factored into the decision. Victorian London has much wider streets. It’s got a long field of view, as well. I think we needed to wait and have the power of next-gen to showcase it in a way that would do the setting justice. And you just have to take a look at the Thames as well… The Thames was filled with boats which is something I’m really excited for our players to see because they are as exciting as all the other vehicles.

OXM: How does the industrial revolution fit into the series?
Marc-Alexis Côté: The thing that’s exciting about the Industrial Revolution is that it’s not an era of war – at least not in the UK. to make the game to be more character-driven than driven by the different events.

OXM: The rope launcher delivers a while new way to play. How do you see this changing the game.
Marc-Alexis Côté: The choice to climb the buildings the old way is still there [and you can bet we’ll have collectibles at the different places on the buildings] but I really think it’s a game-changer because of the way the buildings and city are structured. The streets are so much wider. We have four- and six-storey buildings. It feels like we really need this tool. We’re seeing it in playtests – players are loving it. They’re just parkouring through the city, crossing those gaps and one of the cool things is that you can maintain momentum. You don’t have to wait at the end of the building to traverse. The movement is so fast.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate

The Assassin’s Creed franchise has taken us to many places within each game, and this time we’ll be playing in the much anticipated London Town.. Except back in the Victorian era.. Which is far better! The creative director, Marc-Alexis Côté, has recently said that his decision to modernise the Assassin’s Creed sandbox has really pushed his team at Ubisoft Quebec to truly revolutionise every element of the franchise. “One of the things that I think the series needs in order to innovate is to have a more modern setting; to modernise the experience,” says Côté. “Both in terms of gameplay and in terms of narrative, and there’s no other place to do that than an age of transformation. An age like the Industrial Revolution.”

Many revolutions in London throughout the ages have made the town what it is today, but it was London in the 1800’s which fascinate Côté and his Quebec team the most. “Our biggest investment, without a doubt, is in the city itself. In creating a city that lives and breathes. A city that is, for the first time in the history of the franchise, full of movement,” Côté says. “The city is split into seven different boroughs. The key to the experience is to make each of those boroughs feel very different for our players. I want our players to have a voyage through the city as they travel from the riches of Westminster to the poverty of Whitechapel.”

Victorian London has pretty much been at the top of fan lists for ‘most wanted Assassin’s Creed setting’, and it’s interesting to think why the team have waited until now to set this particular game in London. “I think there were a lot of different ideas that really factored into the decision,” comments Côté. “Victorian London has much wider streets. It’s got a long field of view, as well. I think we needed to wait and have the power of next-gen to showcase it in a way that would do the setting justice. And you just have to take a look at the Thames as well… The Thames was filled with boats which is something I’m really excited for our players to see because they are as exciting as all the other vehicles.”
