The backlash towards Watch Dogs and it’s “downgrade” have forced Ubisoft to change the pre-release footage policy

Ubisoft have recently been forced to reassess how they are to go about showcasing pre-release games, due to a backlash that has arisen to do with Watch Dogs and it’s apparent “downgrade”.

“With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines,” CEO Yves Guillemot told The Guardian. “When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it’s playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.”

Guillemot has also voiced that he puts down some of Watch Dogs’ issues on the fact that they’re trying to create a more ground-breaking experience for undefined early hardware.

“It’s a real challenge to create those types of games,” he goes on to say. “When they come out, especially the first iterations, they are not perfect on everything. We think we launched a good quality game for a first step in a new brand with a new technology. It’s just so complex – seamless multiplayer, connectivity with mobile and tablets, so many things – it was maybe a bit too much for a first iteration.”

No matter the outcome, I’m sure that the guys will come up trumps in the end, and release a truly ground-breaking piece of work.

Watch Dogs

It was spotted on an employee at Ubisoft’s resume that they’d popped Watch Dogs 2 up there!! This has roused suspicion…

Watch Dogs sold more than 9 million copies, and it’s creative director had spoken previously on what it would like to do next with the franchise. This suspense is ever mounting, as Videogamer have recently spotted the words ‘Watch Dogs 2’ in a Ubisoft employee’s resume on LinkedIn. The resume does not provide any additional information on this and has since been removed. Ubisoft have declined to comment on this slip-up.

If anything, one venue that Ubisoft may announce the news of a Watch Dogs 2, is at E3. No plans from the publisher have been made, but they usually hold a press conference on the Tuesday of E3 week, which will be 16th June 2015.

Assassin’s Creed – The Movie

French actress, Marion Cotillard, has signed on to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie!

French actress, Marion Cotillard, is now signed up and a part of the upcoming 2016 Assassin’s Creed film! Although her role has yet to be revealed by Ubisoft or, production company, The New Regency. This is according to Deadline. 

Michael Fassbender has already been cast previously for the film and will now be working alongside Cotillard, which they have previously, and recently, done in an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This was also coincidentally directed by Justin Kurzel, who is directing the Assassin’s Creed film. 

Marion Cotillard, who you will probably recognise from Inception or The Dark Knight Rises, has also previously won an Oscar for her role as Édith Piaf in 2007’s La Vie en Rose. Michael Fassbender was also nominated for an Oscar for his 2013 role in 12 Years a Slave. We’ve recently found out that production has officially started for the Assassin’s Creed film and they will be shooting soon!

The film will hit cinemas on 21st December 2016 and is produced by New Regency and Twentieth Century Fox. This is exactly a week after the Star Wars spin-off film enters the cinema. 

Ubisoft will be retaining it’s creative control through it’s Ubisoft Motion Pictures Group, and are also working on five other films which are based on their games. These are the Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Rabbids franchises.
