About a year ago Microsoft Acquired Zenimax media, who are the parent company of bethesda. With that in mind, on of the earliest Concerns was that this would mean that Bethesda games would be Xbox Exclusive and, atleast at the time, the general tone coming from microsoft was “no”… but it was always a big of a tentative “no” with like ten asterisks and that asked you to sign a waver.

Well it has recently come out that the plan is to make the Highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6 an Xbox and PC exclusive. The game will not be coming to Playstation, (at least not at launch, in recent times we have seen some console exclusives make the jump to being multiplatform after a few years).

The official line from Phil Spence, head of Xbox, is that this is being done to aid compatibility and integration with Xbox Live, Game pass. Xbox Cloud Gaming, Etc. 

Now this does leave a few questions hanging, such as “ok so its going to be on PC, but where on PC? Microsoft store only, or also available through steam? What about epic store”. Right now we obviously don’t have answers, especially given how far off Elder Scrolls 6 is, but judging by Microsoft Putting Halo MCC and Halo Infinite on steam I personally feel its reasonable to assume that Steam users will be able to buy the games on their preferred platform. As for the epic games store side of things, I can’t say. I don’t have an epic games store account out of principle.

As for the Exclusives, and again, this is an opinion piece, don’t shoot me, but as a PC gamer predominantly… I don’t like exclusivity at the best of times. In my opinion, Consoles should be sold on Function and Hardware more than “look at all these games you can only play if you buy our box”. The console exclusivity mindset does not help the end consumer, all it does is net these already wealthy companies more money.

That said, this is… Partially Sony’s fault. Sony where really the ones pushing the “exclusives over all else” ideology last generation, and even as they have started to port their games to PC they have really hunkered down in that mindset, With Sony being the last to adopt Cross platform play, even after Old man Nintendo had already agreed to do it, and it is rumored that Sony even make developers pay to have cross platform enabled.

Does sonys actions make Microsoft making TES6 an exclusive justified? No, generally I would argue against “eye for an eye” mentality like that, but it does go to a level to maybe explain why this has happened.

Starfield is Bethesda’s first new intellectual property in over 25 years and is shaping up to be one of the most highly-anticipated RPGs of 2022. Though the developer is content to keep much of the game in wraps, the excitement around Starfield is hard to ignore. The Game Director and Executive Producer of Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard, recently held a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything). As part of this, he shared information about Starfield concerning the game’s character creation system.

From their fallout series and all the way back to The Elder Scrolls: Arena, Bethesda’s games have always strived for diversity and variety in options they offered players regarding the creation and customization of characters. Even though some have expressed concern that the game would feature humans as the sole playable race, it was still assumed that Starfield would offer sizable customization possibilities. Todd Howard’s confirmation has provided us with some answers.

Todd Howard shared his excitement regarding Starfield’s character creation system in the Reddit AMA. We will apparently be able to choose not only the character’s background and skills but also their pronouns. He also confirmed that the voiced lines would reflect the player’s pronouns in any relevant dialogue.

While not explicitly clarified, we can assume that the system will operate similarly to Cyberpunk 2077, and the choice of pronouns won’t need to reflect physical appearance.

So far, the majority of fans have responded positively. Many (including me) are excited to create a character that better represents their identity. Some have speculated that Starfield will also return to Bethesda’s roots with a silent protagonist, as Todd Howard himself expressed disappointment with how this was handled in Fallout 4.

Players were also excited to choose their background and skills initially, so the game would be affected from the beginning, a contrast to the blank slate approach previously employed with The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, where building your character occurred spontaneously throughout the game.

The post Starfield lets players choose pronouns first appeared on Get2Gaming.

The studio behind the critically acclaimed The Banner Saga is apparently working on an Xbox exclusive game.

Windows Central’s Jez Corden stated during a podcast earlier this month that he was aware of an Xbox exclusive with the codename Belfry. He claimed that he wasn’t sure what it was about, other than a reference to bell towers.

This information was expanded upon by the journalist Jeff Grubb, who claimed during a Giant Bomb video show that said the game is in development at Stoic Studio, the team behind the iconic series, The Banner Saga.

According to Grubb, the game will have the hand-painted look of The Banner Saga games. However, while those titles are tactical RPGs, Project Belfry will supposedly be more of a 2D side-scrolling action game.

Grubb cited Vanillaware‘s PlayStation exclusive Dragon’s Crown as an example of the sort of game Project Belfry will be similar to. He also claimed that the art will stylistically resemble Studio Ghibli’s film Princess Mononoke. This sounds pretty different from the usual Xbox exclusive titles, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out. I’m a fan of this sort of aesthetic, though I did enjoy the pop-punk-y look of Sunset Overdrive and gritty visuals of Halo.

According to Grubb, the titular belfry will be a base where players can likely craft and upgrade items – so the game will also have a crafting and presumably collecting component.

Stoic Studio released The Banner Saga in 2014, with sequels in 2016 and 2018. However, what they’ve been working on in the past three years has remained a mystery. All three games in the Banner trilogy have been critically successful, with each title sitting between a respectable 80-84 on Metacritic.
