What is arknights

Arknights is a Tactical Tower defense game from Chinese Developer Studio Montagne that is available for Android devices. 

The game follows the story of “The Doctor”, who you play as, after they awaken from a coma and are quickly put incharge of the Private military portion of “rhodes Island”, a pharmaceutical company looking into a cure for the highly infectious disease known as Oripathy. Also Catgirls. Lots of catgirls. And catboys is thats your thing. At the same time, the Extremist Faction known as “reunion”, comprised of people who are infected with Oripathy, have began a terrorist campaign that threatens to destabilize the world. Arknights story is part political thriller, part tragic character drama and part Anime.

The game is a gacha Game, meaning you need to “Pull” for units which are graded on a star based rarity system, similar to Genshin Impact. The characters you pull are known as operators and can then be used in stages that take the form of A tower defense style system. Every character is unique (although most do fit into broader Classes and subclasses) and everyone’s strategy with a stage will be different based on what team they have.

Arknights has recently been confirmed to be getting an anime adaptation, scheduled for release in the not too distant future, so if the game itself doesn’t seem to be your style then maybe check out the show when it launches. You can watch the teaser trailer here:

Chapter nine

The latest main story chapter for arknights, Stormwatch, is going to be launching at the games daily reset at 11AM tomorrow. It is the first chapter of the game set after the “reunion” aRc of the story, and will feature a number of new mechanics coming to the game.

For one thing, there are now pillars that you can knock down to block enemy paths using a device given in limited amounts during the stage, as well as a new “Refraction” mechanic that buffs you enemies.

To gain access to chapter 9’s story you will need to clear everything up until chapter 9, INCLUDING chapter 8, and its tough as nails final boss fight against reunions leader, Talulah.

Login Event

With the launch there will be a 7 day log in reward. Log in every day to get new items, including 9000 LMD. 400 Orundum and the “sing a song” skin for Pinecone.

Limited time Drops:

Further more, for the next few weeks, all stages also get a chance to drop 1 of 2 items, those being emergency sanity samples (used to recover 10 sanity) and a supply box which gives random materials,.

• 6 star- Saileach (flagbearer vanguard)
• 5 star- Mulberry (wandering Medic)
• 4 star- Roberta (Artificer Supporter)

Skins.

2 new skins are being added to the game

Man I have forced my obsession with this little tower defense Gacha game into so much, do I really need to do this again?

In any case, Arknights is a tactical tower defense mobile game in which you take control of the Doctor, a thousand year old amnesiac who is then made to command the private military of a pharmaceutical company comprised mostly of cat-girls, most of whom are also dying of Super cancer.

Contingency Contract 6: Wild Scales

So, contingency contract (CC colloquially) is basically the end game activity for arknights. Stages normally rotate daily but occasionally there will be a special event like this one which will introduce a single new map and challenge the player to complete it at the highest difficulty they can manage. Dificulty is decided based on tags you can select before the event starts that alter how you approach the stage. Maybe you cant deploy a certain type of unit, maybe enemies do more damage. Combining as many of these as possible and clearing the stage is the ultimate goal here.

The New map

The new map for Wild scales takes elements from 2 old story events: “Gaviel and the great chief returns, which lends is crocodilian enemies to the fray”, and “Operation: Originium Dust”, the crossover event with rainbow 6 siege from which the sandstorm mechanic comes.

Just to give a refresh on the sandstorm, even though I get the feeling that originium dust was a big onboarding point for people with this game, Operators who are stood in the sandstorm without defense will have their attack reduced and take continuous damage. To block the storm there are some Dirt mounds which offer protection, however these break over time. To be fair, this is mainly to stop stalling on this map, as without it the map generally be completed before any of the mounds break (save 2 which are destroyed by enemies). By default the storm is blowing from left to right, meaning you can place operators semi-safely anywhere on the right of the dirt mounds. There are 2 Modifiers which change this, one which makes the wind blow right to left, and one added during the events second week that means that the wind blows top to bottom

Rewards

This event is adding a few new additions to the permanent CC store:

• “Casual Vactaion” Skin for Warfarin
• “Imps House” Skin for Rope (formerly a login reward)
• “Operation Wild Scales Banner” Furniture Peice
• Epic Medic token X4
• Epic Guard token X4

Banner

Being a gacha game, Arknights requires you to pull on a banner to gain new characters. There is no new banner included in this event, however the “unbound reflux” banner is rerunning. This was the banner that introduced 6 Star operator Thorns to the game, who is considered one of the games strongest characters, so pulling is encouraged, if not required due to other upcoming events taking precedent, like the rapidly approaching launch of Chapter 8 and Salieach.

The Unbound reflux Banner has increased rates on the following operators

• Thorns (6star “lord” guard)
• Andreana (5star “deadeye” Sniper)
• Provence (5star “heavyshooter” sniper)
• Jaye (4star “Merchant” specialist)

The rest

Finally, we will be getting reruns of some of the Coral Coast Skins, and the Rim Billiton Futniture set.

Vigilo: Doctor Who?

Vigilo is the latest mini event from the game. This one is a bit different from others as its way more story relevant than mini events normally are, focusing on the backstory of the doctor. Bearing in mind the last time we got a super story focused Mini event was Children of Ursus, an event whose story is regarded in the community as one of the most dark and disturbing portions of the games story… yeah I think we are in for a doozy.

The event will feature 10 stages, although the story of the event is not told through these stages, instead being unlocked as visual-novel esque scenes through a separate part of the store. Event currency is earned from completing any stage in the game, not just story stages, so dont feel you need to farm event stages. the 10 event stages are extreamly tough, however, with all of them being boss stages, and the final stage having 7 bosses that you need to defeat.

Event store

This event is relatively simple as compared to previous events. There are no new operators added to the game, no new skins in the shop (the skins that were meant to appear where added alongside the Gavial and the great chief returns rerun that has just ended), and there is no new furniture sets. There is a new skin, available though the event store, the “wastewalker” skin for Provenance.

Preluding lights: whats that?

Preluding lights is the newest story event for the game. This is a mini story event, meaning there is not multi-stage storyline. Instead, you buy information fragments using earned currency in the shop and use those to unlock Visual novel style cutscenes featuring the characters.

That doesnt mean there are not any stages, though, there are 10 limited access stages, they just dont have any soty attached to them and are just there for farming. With that in mind, only 1 stage is considered more efficient than normal stages for materials, that being the Stage “PL-5”, which can be used to farm the material RMA70-12, which is used for leveling some characters.

You can also get 10 free originite prime from clearing the stages, and 10 more for doing their challenge modes, which can be used to unlock costumes for operators in the Outfit store or used to pull on the current banner. More on both of these in a bit.

Operators

We have 4 new operators, 3 new on the banner and 1 welfare from the store, with their rarities ranging from 6 to 4 star. So, with that in mind, starting with the welfare

Welfare> Bena. “puppeteer” specialist (the first operator of her type). This means that, when bena receives lethal damage, rather than withdrawing from the battlefield she is swapped with her substitute and continues fighting. The Substitute has a block count of 0. After a certain period of time, the substitute will be replaced with the real Bena again. If the Substitute dies while deployed, Bena retreats as normal. Benas first and only Talent means the substitute deals arts damage and receives 40% less physical and arts damage. Her first skill halves Bena’s max HP, increases her attack and means that she ignores a percentage of her targets defence, while her second skill increases her attack and attack speed but means she loses 4% of her HP every second. This lasts 20 seconds at base and 22 at max meaning that in a single activation will drain bena of 80% of her HP, without even considering extra damage from enemies. Bena Is a unique beast and very interesting, but not the most generally useful character

6 Star> Carnelian. “Phalanx” Caster. Again, this even is all weird off-role operators. Phalanx Ops do not attack unless their skill is active, but gain some chumby defence and arts resist in the meantime. While her skills are active, she deals arts damage to all enemies in range. Carnelian has a unique mechanic on top of this, “charged”, where she will continue to gain SP after her skill is fully charged, and once she has double the SP required to launch the skill she gains the “charged” effect. Her first talent means she recovers a percentage of her hp after activating her skills, with the charged effect doubling the amount recovered. Her second skill increases the SP she generates per second once her skill is ready, letting her reach the charged state quicker. First skill gives and attack and Defence buff, with the Charged effect being that her trait remains active during the skills duration. Her second skill reduces her attack interval and slows enemies. When charged this skill deals extra attack and the slow is changed to Bind, holding enemies in place for an amount of time, starting a 0.2 seconds and maxing at 0.6 seconds. 3rd skill expands Attack range, and causes her attack to gradually increase until the end of skill duration. When charged, the skill also means that enemies gain a stacking debuff each time they take damage, which increases the amount of damage carnelian deals to them. Carnelian, along with all Phalanx operators, is weird. Shes good, dont get me wrong, but she is a strange beast and wont easily slot into most teams. Probably not worth pulling for overall, but definitely not something to be scoffed at if you do get her

5 Star> Kirara. “Stalker” Specialist (same Subclass as Manticor and ethan). She attacks all enemies in her range, has a 50% physical and arts dodge and has a lower priority to be attacked by enemies. Skill means she self heals, with her healing being increased if there are no allies in the surrounding 8 tiles. First skill is a single shot skill that charges off dealing damage to enemies. Kirara does an additional hit of arts damage, equal to a percentage of her overall attack. Her second skill increases the potency of her talent, and lets her deal a percentage of arts damage to enemies in her range every second. Kirara is a solid pick, and fills out a unique niche alongside Manticor and Ethan. You’re probably never going to need more than one of these 3 in your team at a time, but Kirara does make a good addition.

4 Star> Indigo “mystic” caster. She deals arts damage, and when there are no targets in her range she can store her attack energy up to 3 times and fire it off in a burst once a target is available. Her Skill means that she has a percentage chance to bind a target, and that she does not attack said bound targets. This may sound weird but remember, due to her ability to store charges of damage, this means that if there is a single enemy that gets bound, Indigo’s next attack will be devastating. Her first skill changes her attack range to be straight in front of her and reduces her attack interval, with an added percentage arts damage decrease. Second skill also reduces attack interval, increases her talent activation chance, and means any bound enemies in her range receive arts damage every 0.5 seconds. Indigos main draw is being a 4 star of this style of caster, and all in all she isnt bad. I just dont care for this class.

3 new skins, in collaboration with hong kong based fashion brand I.T. Skins and prices are as follows

Furniture

As with all events, a new set of furniture for your Dorms has been launched. This one is titled “Lena’s Rest”, provides a total of 500 Ambiance to a dorm for the full set, and will set you back 6,070 furniture pieces, or 32 originite prime.

Contingency contract 5: Operation spectrum

Occasionally arknights will hold events known as contingency contract. These events are the highest difficulty the game reaches and can be considered the games true endgame. The upcoming event, Operation spectrum, is set to bring lots of rewards with it, so lets go over whats going on and how to get involved.

The Map

Each contingency contract event brings a new map, and Operation spectrum os no different. The new map is themed after the kazimierz major, a tournament that was first featured in the Maria Nearl Event that happened earlier this year. The stage also features the dreadknight bosses (theres 2 of them) from that event, which means you will want some units with very strong burst damage on your team.

This stage will feature the ability to add any number of “modifiers” from a list to increase the difficulty of the stage. These modifiers are arranged into 3 tiers, with the top being the easiest and the bottom being the hardest, and the difficulty level is represented as the “Risk”. To get the most rewards out of this event, you will need to clear the stage with modifiers that have a combined total risk of 18. Good luck.

Rewards

So what do you get from gaining these rewards? Well you will gain tokens that you can spend in the contingency contract store. During the event there will be both the standard, year round “permanent store”, which is getting some new arrivals, and also a temporary store.

Starting with the temporary store, players will be able to get 60000 LMD (the games main currency), as well as 15 loxic Khol for a reduced Token price, and then an infinite amount of these same materials for an increased cost. You can also grab 2 polymerization preparation, 5 Incandescent alloy blocks, 5 manganese trihydrate, 5 crystalline circuits, 15 coagulating gel, 15 sugar packs, 60 tactical battle records and 400 Furniture parts.

In the permanent store, events would usually add a new “welfare operator” who are free to buy using the tokens you gain for completing challenges. However, there is no-one new this event, which makes my life easier (however the previous welfare operators “Bilbeak”, “Scene” and “Tuye” are all still available and you should get them, they can all be very useful). What is being added is as follows

• “Shoal Beat” Skin for Blue Poison
• “Letters from Wessex” Skin for Melantha (A returning skin that was previously a login reward that has long been unavailable)
• “Operation Spectrum Banner” Furniture piece
• X4 “Royal specialist chips”, which can be used to increase the potential of ANY six star specialist operator.

The banner

This event is not bringing any “New” operators, however the new banner features 4 6 star operators, all of whom will be more likely to be pulled than other operators. The operators are:

• Thorns (Ranged Guard)
• Weedy (Pusher Specalist)
• Sussurro (Slower supporter)
• Nightingale (AOE Medic)

All of these are very good characters, but if I where to pick the best, the one that you may want to pull for most would be thorns. His 3rd skill has infinite Duration on its second activation, and He also has a self-heal that starts if he hasn’t attacked for a short period of time.

Everything else

Finally, there is the outfit store. This store will gain 3 returning outfits as part of a re-run of the “Rhodes Kitchen” outfit series. These outfits are

• “Shaved ice Memories” for Magallan (18 Originite prime)
• “Bibliosmia” for Istina (18 Originite Prime)
• “Honey Pilferer” for beehunter (15 Originite prime.

The heavily delayed followup/spin off of rainbow six: Siege may finally have a release date, or so a recent leak would suggest.

Rainbow Six Extraction was first announced in 2019, but was then delayed due to Covid 19 in 2020, before being delayed Again to January 2022 a few months back. Before now that was all we new: the game was intended to release in January 2022, but no definitive release date, just the month. That may just have changed

What is “Rainbow 6: Extraction”

“Rainbow six Q̶u̶a̶r̶e̶n̶t̶i̶n̶e̶ P̶a̶r̶a̶s̶i̶t̶e̶ Extraction” is a spin off of the popular Tactical FPS game “Rainbow 6: Siege”, but is more specifically a spinoff of the 2018 limited time mode “Outbreak” in which Players faced off against aliens in New Mexico.

In Extraction, a team of 3 players will be tasked with “Infiltrating” Alien infested locations and making their way through them. Along the way they will need to complete side objectives, from recovering lost team mates to killing key targets or collecting samples.

The Alien Threat you will face down are the “Archeans”, Parasitic lifeforms that spread a goo-like substance called the sprawl. While walking on sprawl, Players will be slower while Aliens will be buffed. Alongside the standard Alien threats there are numerous specialised variants of aliens that do different things.

Despite all this sounding… Kinda weird for a spinoff of a formerly very realistic/Realism adjacent Series like Rainbow 6, it should be noted that Extraction is set on a timeline split that originates from the outbreak event. That, and this isn’t even the weirdest Spinoff Rainbow six has had, even recently. Lets not forget that Very Recently 4 Rainbow ops were blasted into an alternate universe of anime catgirls. Yes, Really.

So when is the game coming out?

Again, as of now, Ubisoft’s official word on the release date of rainbow 6 Extraction is “January”. But thanks to a blogpost on ubisoft’s official website.According to a post on Ubisofts website, the Release date is January 20th, 2022. This has yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft themselves and while certain Publications have reached out from comment, nothing has come through yet.

The Delay was originally announced alongside a delay for Riders republic, which has yet to get any sort of word on when it is going to be released.

“Rainbow Six: Extraction” is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, the Ubisoft Store on Windows PC, and Stadia
