It’s been four years since the Nintendo Switch was initially launched and it finally caught up to all the current-gen consoles yesterday when a certain app got added to the console.

That’s right, Twitch has finally made it onto the Nintendo Switch!

The streaming platform arrived to the Nintendo eShop somewhat unexpectedly and was announced on the Twitch Twitter account.

The Twitch app allows Switch users to browse and watch live streams in handheld, tabletop or TV modes! You’re able to access live streams straight away when you access the app so you don’t need a Twitch account to watch live streams, however, it makes the experience better.

Nintendo Switch isn’t known for its non-gaming software. The only other video streaming apps that are featured on the handheld console are YouTube, Hulu, and Funimation.

Sadly. Twitch on Switch is strictly for viewing pleasure only so users will be unable to create content from the app. If you want to stream your Nintendo Switch games to Twitch, you will still need to route the video through a PC if you are more interested in the creating side of things.

The video game live streamers are taking the day off in order to protest the service’s recent “hate raids”

Twitch streamers have organised a protest today in order to protest against the “hate raids” that have been happening on the video game live streaming service recently.

The tag #DayOffTwitch is already trending on Twitter and has a long list of twitch streamers and viewers alike sharing their reasons why they are joining in with the protest, to bring attention to the recent burst of harassment directed towards the site’s marginalized creators.

Hate Raids on Twitch

The harassment sadly isn’t new, however, over the past few weeks, the hate often comes from generated bots that flood the chat and have an overwhelming effect to the point where creators have to end their streams.

The protest against these hate raids has been spearheaded by a number of Twitch streamers including ShineyPen, RekitRaven, and Lucia Everblack, who also started the #TwitchDoBetter trend as a protest to Twitch’s slow response to sexist, racist, transphobic comments on the platform, along with other forms of harassment.

Creators believe the harassment has become more targeted ever since Twitch expanded its list to include over 350 tags classified by gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ability, mental health, and more, bringing in targeted harassment along with the viewers is supposedly aimed for.

It certainly doesn’t help that there is nothing Twitch itself has provided for its creators, as they are left to their own devices with community-developed responses such as a panic button, which limits the chat from new subscribers with abusive names. Sadly, Twitch hasn’t made anything like that.

Twitch has promised to take action and gave a statement to The Verge which said:

We support our streamers’ rights to express themselves and bring attention to important issues across our service. No one should have to experience malicious and hateful attacks based on who they are or what they stand for, and we are working hard on improved channel-level ban evasion detection and additional account improvements to help make Twitch a safer place for creators.

Let’s hope Twitch keeps its promise and listens to the streamers and users protesting today.

Google’s Youtube looks set to launch rival to Amazon owned streaming Service Twitch.

It is no secret that YouTube’s owners Google failed in there bid to acquire Twitch last year, being beaten to the post by Amazon’s 970 million pound offer. With global video game streaming audiences continuing to grow YouTube Gaming’s product manager Alan Joyce feels the time is right for a more dedicated outlet for gaming as a whole, in the hope of sharing some of Twitch’s recent successes. In his most recent blog post Joyce said;

“On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let’s plays, walkthroughs, and speedruns to cooking and music videos. Now, it’s our turn to return the favour with something built just for gamers.”

Youtube is promising 25,000 gaming portals, bringing together all activity of each gaming title,  then fencing it off from the rest of YouTubes mass of content allowing seamless search, browsing and viewing of content.

With twitch already clocking up over 12 billion game streaming hours a month on it’s platform along with the allure of advertising revenue this looks set to be an almighty content based battle!

Youtube Gaming will comprise of a new dedicated site and app which is set to launch in the US and UK this summer.

The PS4 receives it’s very own version of Sky Go

Exciting news for PS4 owners! The console has gotten it’s very own version of Sky Go, which goes under the new name of – TV from Sky.

This brand new app allows existing Sky TV customers with Multiscreen or Sky Go Extra to use their PS4 as one of their registered devices to access on demand or live programming . As well as on the Xbox One, Sky’s streaming service, Now TV, is already available on the platform.
