The Witcher fans could have banded together to buy a house

The Kickstarter for the The Witcher: Ronin – A Hard Copy Collector’s Edition Manga smashed its original goal within a matter of hours. That didn’t stop fans from continuing to pledge, though. The Kickstarter ended with a whopping €678,036, that’s exactly £579,580… and 27 pence. A whole 750% of the original goal.

Irresistible rewards and gorgeous art promised to Kickstarter pledgers no doubt were the root of its success.

If you’re wondering why fans continued to donate even after the goal was met, a quick gander at the rewards on Kickstarter will tell you why. All Kickstarter pledgers of the lowest tier have been promised a copy of the manga, as well as a postcard with the variant cover artwork. If you shelled out another €15 euros, you’d get a poster as well.

20 dedicated fans pledged €150 to get all that, plus a hand drawn sketch by artist Hayata. It’s honestly a pretty sweet deal, hence it was limited to 20 backers max.

One lucky sod got themselves the €1,050 pledge with a hand-drawn black and white cover by Hayata – wow. I think they deserve to have the Witcher fan bragging rights for life.

In addition, there were several selectable add-ons including a tote bag, sculpture, and pins.

“The Witcher: Ronin presents The Witcher universe as if it were based around the rich traditions of Japanese folklore. In a world such as this, the role of a professional monster slayer is just as essential — as dangerous Yokai and Oni (Japanese spirits and demons) are constantly on the prowl.”

This exciting take on The Witcher series looks absolutely gorgeous, and I’m so excited to see Geralt in a completely new environment. The Kickstarter edition will include 55 extra pages of content: 45 of side-stories, and 10 making-of pages. You might have missed the Kickstarter, but you’ll at least be able to purchase the manga when it drops in January 2022.

I’m already fairly confident that this will be another Witcher masterpiece!

Persona 5 was released over 5 years ago on PS3 and PS4 now, yet it is still constantly getting expansions far beyond its original release. So far it has received an anime, a dancing-focused spin-off game, and a whole lot of merchandise (if there’s one thing Japan can produce, its merchandise).

It also received a tie-in manga titled Persona 5: Mementos Mission in Japan that has yet to receive an official English translation…

… until now.

Udon Entertainment announced it is teaming up with the American chain bookstore Barnes & Noble to release the tie-in manga set in the game’s universe on December 7, 2021.

What is Persona 5: Mementos Mission?

Persona 5: Mementos Mission started publication in October 2018 in the Dengeki Maoh magazine, with the last chapter published in March 2020. Not to be confused with the standard Persona 5 manga that follows the game’s story,  this manga follows The Phantom Thieves solve a brand-new mystery; featuring assassination attempts, shady doctors’ clinics, strange job requests at the backstreet military shop, and reunites the entire Persona 5 cast, including the charismatic detective Goro Akechi.

Those interested will be able to get not one, but two different cove versions of Persona 5: Mementos Mission Volume 1. The standard edition will feature Joker and Morgana taking centre stage, and the Barnes & Noble edition will feature Joker, Morgana, and Futuba on the front. It will also come with a mini fold-out poster of Joker, Ryuji, Goro Akechi, and Yusuke stylised playing cards. It has not been stated whether the other 2 volumes will also be translated into English, but one can only hope.

It is not the only expansion into the Metaverse to be released in the West this year. Persona 5 Strikers, a spin-off sequel to the original Persona 5 game was released in February on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PC and was a global success that achieved strong reviews. The game follows Joker and Morgana returning to Tokyo to join The Phantom Thieves on summer vacation, who are quickly coerced into a new mystery.

What players can expect regarding the story mode and characters from Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles…

It was only last week that SEGA announced Demon Slayer: The HInokami Chronicles would be getting a Western release, now new details emerge about what we can expect in the gameplay and if done well, it could become another hit for the Demon Slayer franchise.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

Based on the widely popular and record-breaking manga and anime TV series Demon Slayer: Kimestu No Yaiba and developed by CyberConnect2, the upcoming fighting game will feature main characters battling it out in 3D arena environments set in the series’ Taisho Period of Japan. It is said to take inspiration from the developer’s other successful series, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja, by featuring both a story mode and a versus mode.

Very few details had been released so far, yet now Xbox has now outlined what story arcs and characters you can expect when playing the game in this new story trailer.

Story Mode and Characters

Demon Slayer: The HInokami Chronicles is going to draw from not one, but two Demon Slayer arcs, specifically “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve” and “Mugen Train” (everything that has been released in animated form so far). We will see protagonist Tanjiro meet many unique characters on his quest to restore his sister Nezuko’s humanity, with 18 of them being playable characters.

The exciting part of this reveal is several of these characters will be members of the Hashira, the highest group in the Demon Slayer Corporation. For those who are unaware, each Hashira practices a different “breathing style” that helps them in combat situations- a feature that will hopefully be animated well in the game. The three members of Hashira that have been announced for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles so far are Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, and Kyojuro Rengoku (pictured). These members can control Water, Insect and Flame breathing techniques.

Tanjiro’s breathing style “Hinokami Kagura” is said to also be a feature in the game, however, it is uncertain it will be as powerful as it is in manga and anime, to make gameplay more balanced out.

When to Expect Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is set to be released in North America and Europe on October 15 2021, available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. There will also be a Digital Deluxe Edition of Hinokami Chronicles, which will give PC and PS users 8,000 “slayer points,” 3 Butterfly Mansion skins, 12 character avatars for players on PS4, PS5, or Steam, 4 keys to unlock new characters and a custom PS4 theme.

It will be interesting to see how the game plays out but for now, fans will have to anticipatingly wait for October 15.
