Disney has given the licensing to its characters to Apple for an upcoming Super Smash Bros-inspired action game featuring various characters from Disney’s filmography. Disney Melee Mania will be developed by Mighty Bear Games.

The game will be exclusive to Apple Arcade, which you can get for £4.99 a month to gain access to various free Apple Arcade titles. Disney Melee is set for a December release.

As shown above, the game will also feature Pixar characters, basically letting you play Death Battle. Would Frozone beat Elsa in a fight? Or would Elsa use her Deus Ex Machina powers from the closing seconds of Frozen 1 to just make him a new super suit and call it a draw? Would Toy Story Buzz be able to fight the Buzz from the upcoming Lightyear movie? WILL BING-BONG’S TAUNT INCLUDE THE CHAMPAGNE ELEPHANTS FROM DUMBO? Only one way to find out!

The gameplay will be primarily MOBA-based, or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena to you and me. Some games that fit the MOBA bill include Overwatch, Smite and League of Legends. Disney Melee Mania will focus on 3-on-3 combat which is described in a recent press release by Apple as:

‘Each champion will appear in a distinct action-ready design equipped with their own set of iconic moves and unlockable cosmetics. Throughout five-minute matches bursting with battle arena action, players will need to score the most points possible — or defeat the opposing team as many times as they can — for a chance at victory’.

Disney Melee Mania will include 12 starting characters for free with the option to buy other upcoming characters later. DOTA 2

Valve’s MOBA title hits the one million mark over the weekend

DOTA 2 is the first ever game to hit the seven figure mark in the history of Steam. Over the weekend, the game hit 1,060,082 concurrent players. The only game to hit six figures was fellow Valve title Counter Strike: Global Offensive (434k) while several reached five figures, led by Team Fortress 2 (84k), Football Manager 2015 (74k), Garry’s Mod (66k) and Civilization V (59k).

Despite DOTA 2’s grand weekend success, it is still overshadowed by it’s MOBA rival, League of Legends, which has hit 7.5m concurrent players previously. Be warned that this data is slightly dated now. Nevertheless, that rivals Steam’s all-time overall concurrent users, which hit 8.5m at the start of the year. I think a congratulations is in order for the Steam crew! What a milestone to overcome and what a great game DOTA 2 is!

The Lost Vikings: Heroes of the Storm

Erik, Baleog and Olaf are back in Blizzard’s return of The Lost Vikings!

Blizzard have revealed the return of The Lost Vikings, who shall be making their debut in ‘Heroes of the Storm’. Unlike your usual heroes, these guys start off without any basic abilities at all and have three units which players control. A challenge, you say?

Each Viking can move, attack, and be killed individually. Re-spawn timers are also unique to each of the Vikings. These lovely lads are required to be near each other when the player wants to use their ultimate ability, Longboat Raid. Grouping the Viking’s together also allows them to break the chests on the Blackheart’s Bay map very quickly. A bit of good old fashioned teamwork is what we like to see! Mainly due to the fact that they’re Vikings…

Each one of these glorious men has unique traits. Erik the Swift moves the fastest of the trio and possesses longer attack range. Olaf the Stout has the most health of the group, has faster regeneration, and can charge to slow enemies. Baleog the Fierce deals splash damage to enemy units behind those of his target. Blizzard also revealed alternative skins for the Vikings, including Master skins and Pyjama Party. I’ve always fancied a Viking in a pair of long johns!

Blizzcon last year is where Heroes of the Storm and the return of these three Vikings was announced. The game entered closed beta last month, in which players can gain immediate access to if they purchase the Founder’s Pack.

The Lost Vikings was first released all the way back in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as a puzzle action game. You can watch the Heroes of the Storm trailer HERE, on our ‘Exciting Game Trailers’ playlist on YouTube.
