Whats better than playing video games? Buying overpriced pieces of plastic based on video games. I love merchandise. Right now as of writing I can look around my room and wherever I look I am reminded that my parents are disappointed in me.

One of the best types of collectables, especially for properties that feature Mecha or Giant Robots is the Model kit. Popularized by bandai’s Gunpla Line (that’s Gundam Plastic Model kits, Gun-Pla) which took the Iconic robots from the hit gundam animes and shot them out in 1/144 scale kits that you have to build yourself, since then most franchises have had *some* form of model kit representation.

The most recent to join this fray is Square Enix, who are putting out a kit of the flight Unit from 2016’s surprise hit Nier: Automata. Surprise hit because what the hell is a drakengard? Nier automata was a game that really shouldn’t have done well. The rest of director Yoko Taro’s games in the drakengard/Nier franchise had not done well, in part due to the development team… not being too great. These games had cult appeal, sure, and a dedicated fanbase, but I don’t think anyone was expecting Automata to be as big as it was. Then again, the old developers, Cavia, were out for this one, and replacing them were action game legends Platinum games, best known for the bayonetta franchise.

The game came out and was an instant classic, reviving interest in the series and allowing for the recent remake of the original Neir Replicant. Alongside this was a tone of merchandise, because… well I would love to say it was because the characters are just cool, but being real its probably because most people want Protagonist 2B to step on them. However one part of the series that has yet to get much is the flight units that are a part of the Shoot-Em-Up/Bullet hell sections of the game.

Now, Square has Released a Model kit for them. There are 2 variants, one for 2B and one for 9S, with 2b coming out in may and 9s in april. Now as far as I can tell this is being made in house by Squares Merchandise department, who i don’t *think* have a huge amount of experience in kits as compared to bandai, good smile company or kotobukiya, so maybe watch out a little.

2. Nier Replicant

Nier Replicant is an emotional JRPG set in the year 3465 and is about a young boy who’s on a quest to save his sister from a disease known as the ‘black scrawl’ and is on the search for the ‘sealed verses’ while uncovering all the secrets that lie behind it.

The soundtrack in NieR Replicant is godsent, it’s just as beautiful as NieR: Automata’s soundtrack and completely captures every little emotion from the characters to the supporting characters, the viewers, the dialogue and even the environment. Everyone is a witness and through the music, NieR Replicant makes everyone a part of guilt, happiness, loss and love, including the player.

Our personal favourites happen to be ‘The Song of Ancients’ as heard in NieR: Automata and ‘Fleeting Words’. Here’s a full video for Nier Replicants soundtrack!

Now, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is based around Jin facing his traumatic past at Iki Island.

The soundtrack in Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut feels very authentic for the time it’s set in, the game has a traditional and nostalgic undertone. The music captures the beauty of loss, hope, chaos, anguish and fear, all in one place. It’s definitely at the top of our list.

Voice of Cards is One of The Best Card-Based RPG’s I’ve Played (and it’s only the Demo)

Voice of Cards was announced on Twitter Prior to the Nintendo Direct, but there hadn’t been much information revealed about it until Nintendo’s Direct Streamed on the 23rd of September. The Nintendo Direct features other games, such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3 and of course, Voice of Cards: The Isle Dragon Roars (VOD or Voice of Cards for Short). Brought to you by Square Enix and one of the well-known masterminds Yoko Taro who is also known for his work on the NieR and Drakengard Franchise, but it’s good to remember he is only ONE of the masterminds and the hard-working hands that brings the game to life.

So What is Voice of Cards Anyway?

Voice of Cards is a tabletop RPG, as described by Square Enix themselves “The story follows a self-proclaimed hero as they set off to slay a recently awakened dragon, presented in the manner of a tabletop RPG and playing out through narration from the game master.” They do not reveal much about the game at all, they’ve been very subtle about what they show their views, even since the moment they announced it. Despite the fact they have shown some gameplay from the Trailer, it isn’t enough for us to squeal in joy…that is until you download the DEMO. You will be more than happy they were so secretive.

Voice of Cards is a masterpiece, I say that with pride and I’ve only played the demo. From the moment I was blessed by the title screens music and the Game Master’s (Narrator’s) voice, I knew it was going to be good. The voice acting in this game is fantastic. As someone who enjoys writing scripts, stories and poetry, the introduction was really good. The writing worked well enough to pull you in, no pun intended. You are welcomed in by the gamemaster and then introduced to what feels like a different world, I want to be able to explain without spoilers, but it is very difficult.

Let’s just say, there’s a lot to expect and it’s more than what you think. Expect more than what you’re expecting. Voice of Cards is immersive to the point you truly feel like you’re in the position as the player and that you’ve entered something…where you have no choice, but to go through with it.

Not to mention that the soundtracks are amazing, the music makes me want to sit back and relax, it helps build the atmosphere but also draws this ‘sinister’ vibe out of the screen. The artwork is fantastic, what can I say? The hand-drawn style makes you feel as though you are truly playing a card game in person, you only wish you had a real stack of those cards to play around within your bare hands.

How does the NieR Franchise connect to Voice of Cards?

Well, Yoko Taro has mentioned that Voice of Cards is not a NieR game, BUT…the game will feature some of NieR characters and will be added as an exclusive DLC. It will have a theme around the NieR Replicant. Below is a list of all their DLC’s that’ll be available for pre-order and upon launch.

Square Enix Celebrate 15 million Downloads of Nier Reincarnation

Many westerners were sceptical about Nier Reincarnation, even Square Enix themselves said they weren’t expecting a massive like to the game in the west, not that they were expecting negativity, but they hadn’t expected such a massive response towards it, as all NieR games have been on a console and none on mobile. Especially with the strong dislike towards gacha games in which you ‘pay to win’, however as I’ve been playing NieR reincarnation, I can confidently say, you do not need to spend any money to get through the game.

There are events that Square Enix hold frequently on NieR Reincarnation, which also include the crossover events, NieR Replicant and NieR Automata, which allow players a chance to get a new character for free, just by playing through the game and completing battles, it’s fairly simple. Yes, the player needs stamina, but the player can easily gain stamina by earning them from friends or simply buying more with the in-game special event currency.

Not to mention, though these characters would be nice to have, they aren’t NEEDED to progress in the game, it’s easy to simply progress without any new items than what the game gives you along the way. I know, that can be boring BUT they also give you 10 free pulls on each roulette for characters and weapons to enable you to give you a chance at getting something new, not to mention that pulls after that are used with in-game currency AND Square Enix practically sends bonus gems to your inbox every week to collect, so I hardly ever run out. I don’t spend crazily, no but when I have enough to do pulls and buy other items, it makes it easier for me.

Personally, I feel that NieR Reincarnation works perfectly as a mobile game and is a great option for those who don’t have the luxury of a console, but it also displays the potential of a NieR game on Nintendo Switch, which also gets me excited. While it would be nice to play NieR Reincarnation on a console, it works great on mobile because of the turn-based battle system, where controls are fairly easy to use and upgrading weapons don’t require you to run your way to a blacksmith or a ‘junk heap’. It’s worth playing and I 100% recommend it. It would be wise to get the game now, while Square Enix celebrate as they are giving away a few thousand gems to each player, which will get new players off on a great start.

Square Enix open Pre-Orders for Nendroid Kainé Action Figure & More!

Square Enix has been gaining more and more popularity amongst the NieR franchise and always seem to be coming out with something new. Recently, they’ve done a crossover event on Nier Reincarnation, with Nier Automata & Nier Replicant ver 1.224744987139 (It’s quite the number, I wonder about the other versions…just kidding.) The crossover events were the perfect time to open pre-orders for a Kainé Nendroid Action figure. Square Enix has already done one for the Adult protagonist and a regular action figure for the young protagonist, as well as a plushie doll for ‘the carrier’ from NieR Reincarnation. All of these merch items can be found here.

What is NieR Replicant?

NieR Replicant follows the story of the main, young protagonist, who happens to be the older brother of his sister Yonah. The two struggle to thrive in a world that’s falling apart. It is a remaster of the original game NieR Gestalt and with a slight change of relationships between the main character. The game is certainly worth trying and has multiple endings and small changes to the story each playthrough, so the game remains interesting.

As Square Enix described the main protagonist action figure, they said “The game’s graphics have become even more beautiful; we’ve recreated the upgraded look with this figure. From the protagonist’s confident expression showing his inner strength to his outfit’s wrinkles and fine embellishments, we’ve taken the utmost care in showing off each individual texture in breathtaking detail.”

“From NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139…, Kainé – the Shade-possessed warrior who accompanies the protagonist in his journey – joins the Nendoroid lineup!” – Square Enix-

Kainé’s Nendroid comes with interchangeable facial expressions, along with her twin swords, her grandma’s Lunar Tear flower crown hair accessory, even slashing effect pieces, which we often see as she attacks shades in Nier Replicant. It’s said that the figure won’t release until May 2022, (yikes!) but if you’re into collecting bits and pieces like these, then it’s certainly worth the wait for Kainé lovers like myself. I hope to see a King of Facade Young and Adult Action Figure, but as of now, that feels like a distant dream.

The main protagonist Nendroid has Weiss- “My name is Grimoire Weiss and is NOT to be abbreviated!” right…sorry, Grimoire Weiss, accompanies the main protagonist here with the common attack ‘Dark Lance’ which proves to be one of the most helpful attacks during gameplay. He also comes with other pieces such as the Kusanagi sword, which is a weapon we automatically get after a certain point in the game, interchangeable expressions, along with a few other surprising bits.

Lastly, we have the carrier from Nier Reincarnation, which is an adorable, black, ghost-like plushie doll, it’s a fairly simple design, yet it screams unique to me, and somewhat has that steampunk, post-man look to it, with a bit of fantasy thrown in there. It’s quite hard to explain, I could be wrong altogether but at least I tried to come up with a description as Square Enix hadn’t said much other than height. The carrier is 21cm tall. This plush is sold separately from Mama, who is a companion alongside the main character.

With each of their products, especially pre-orders, Square Enix has left this message for buyers in their description. “Release date is approximate. The Nier Reincarnation X Nier Replicant Crossover Came Sooner Than expected

Square Enix has released over 5 events since the launch of Nier Reincarnation including the Nier Automata crossover. Now they’ve announced a Nier Replicant crossover, which was released earlier this week on the 7^th of September 2021. Nier Replicant was originally released as ‘Nier’ on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, then square Enix released a remake ‘Nier Replicant 1.22 ver’ on the PS4 (Playable on PS5) back in April 2021.

The Nier Reincarnation and Nier Replicant crossover will feature 3 characters: the main protagonist, Kaine, and Emil. This will also include an exclusive story for the three characters that can only be found through the gameplay of Nier Reincarnation and nowhere else. The log-in bonus for the event will be a weapon called ‘Iron Pipe’ which is the first weapon the player uses in Nier Replicant’s prologue and can obtain later on in the game as a side quest in ‘The Forest of Myth’. The event will last from the 7th September – 7^th October 2021.

What is Nier Reincarnation?

Nier: Reincarnation is one of Square Enix’s most recent creations and originally released for mobile platforms on the 28^th July 2021 and was shown at Square Enix’s E3 2021 showcase. Nier: Reincarnation, an action-roleplay game that takes place in the same universe as Nier: Replicant and Nier: Automata. It is the first game in the Nier series to ever be released on a mobile phone.The game is set in a mysterious world called ‘The Cage’ where the player takes on the role of the main character who is known as ‘The Girl of Light’ who is guided by a ghost-like being called Mama, who seems to have more of a child-like appearance, the best way to explain it is the look of a small napkin thrown over a tiny doll, in attempts to look similar to a simple Halloween costume. The two venture together through The Cage to unlock memories all while avoiding a God-like creature they call The Dark Monster.

This game is only available on mobile, however playing through this event will allow you to experience the Nier Replicant characters in a different setting and enjoy NieR in general on a new format, not to mention that completing this event means you’ll be able to get to keep Emil, Kaine and the protagonist and playable characters (that’s completing by collecting enough event medals to do so).

I’m serious, Gaming Magazines are increasing in popularity. APWOT’s ‘A Profound Waste Of Time’ has already been sold out on their 1st wave of pre-orders and now have a waiting list for their 2nd wave of pre-orders due to the high demand. We also have ‘Lock On Magazine’ created by Lost In Cult Uk, their first issue is sold out and has also created a waiting list for their 2nd wave of readers to order their first issue.
