The Game Developers Conference is an annual gathering of all manner of professionals within the gaming industry. The Game Developers Choice Awards, or GDCA, are one of the most highly anticipated events of the yearly conference, honouring game developers who excelled in audio, design, storytelling, innovation, and social effect in the previous year. This year’s event will be hosted in San Francisco, CA, through March 21^st to March 25^th, despite being hosted online for the last two years. The nominees for Game of the Year have recently been revealed.

There are five games in the running for the GDCA Game of the Year award, three of which will be known to those who watched The Game Awards in December 2021. Resident Evil Village, Arkane Studios’ time-hopping first-person shooter Deathloop, and TGA Game of the Year winner It Takes Two are all in with a chance for the GDCA prize. Inscryption, a horror-themed deckbuilder produced by Devolver Digital, and Forza Horizon 5 are also on the list.

Several of the candidates for the GDCA Game of the Year award this year have  been nominated in other categories too. Deathloop has been nominated for six awards, It Takes Two has been nominated for five, while Forza Horizon 5 has received four nominations. The GDCA ceremony on March 23 will announce the winners in all categories, and the event will be livestreamed on the GDC Twitch channel.

From Experience, I can say that finding a PS5 right now is hard. Unreasonably hard, how… how did this happen? Right now it is effectively impossible to come across one of the devices in the wild, to the point where even if your a high budget film director who made a film based on a video game. Director Of Resident evil, Welcome to Racoon City, Johannes Roberts, has recently been feeling this strain.

As part of an interview with IGN, the topic of PS5 availability cropped up, to which Roberts Pleaded with the interviewer to help him find a console. Robers claims to have been unable to find a PS5 console anywhere. As a huge fan of the resident evil franchise, he wants to experience Resident evil village at its best, and is trying to avoid last gen versions of the game.

Elsewhere in the interview Roberts is asked his favourite title in the series, which he remarks is the remake of Resident evil 2. A game that no-doubt will be a major inspiration for the upcoming film.

Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, availability has been a major issue over the last year as chip shortages have had a knock on effect on the console industry, and its not likely to get better this holiday season. Some high profile celebrities have also been affected by this, with Jason Kelley who plays the protagonist of Deathloop needing  Bethesda to supply him with a console just before the release of Deathloop.

2. Nier Replicant

Nier Replicant is an emotional JRPG set in the year 3465 and is about a young boy who’s on a quest to save his sister from a disease known as the ‘black scrawl’ and is on the search for the ‘sealed verses’ while uncovering all the secrets that lie behind it.

The soundtrack in NieR Replicant is godsent, it’s just as beautiful as NieR: Automata’s soundtrack and completely captures every little emotion from the characters to the supporting characters, the viewers, the dialogue and even the environment. Everyone is a witness and through the music, NieR Replicant makes everyone a part of guilt, happiness, loss and love, including the player.

4. Ghost of Tsushima Direct’s Cut

Now, Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut is based around Jin facing his traumatic past at Iki Island.

In a recent report, video game company Capcom behind Street Fighter, Resident Evil and other beloved series has claimed Pragmata has been making steady progress.

Alongside this, Capcom has also confirmed free DLC updates coming to Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil Village!

What is Pragmata? Pragmata is an upcoming video game announced in a 2020 PlayStation 5 reveal event. Based on the trailer, it seems to be shaping up as a Death Stranding style atmospheric sci-fi action-horror seeing you explore a largely abandoned world infested with dangerous beings, seemingly focused around a rescue mission of sorts. Check out the trailer here!

Capcom also announced it will be hiring over 100 “graduates” and “seasoned mid-career professionals” to aid in the company’s growth and further the development of new IPs (intellectual properties) like Pragmata. During a PlayStation 5 sizzle reel, Capcom also announced in January 2021 that the game’s release will be delayed to around 2023. Considering how ball-fondlingly crisp the graphics are on this game and they’ll likely have to keep up that quality for gameplay, hopefully another delay update comes out sometime, so as not to rush the newbies and potentially lead to crunch work, which is a whole other can of worms. At the same time, fingers crossed this doesn’t become another Deep Down situation (another Capcom game in the works that ended up getting scraped).

There’s also the peculiar third-person catformer (cat platformer) Stray, which feels like if Limbo was about a stray cat (currently with plans to release ‘early 2022’). Yes, you heard me, free.

Capcom, October 29th, published their annual report for 2021, rounding out the year with a look back on and to the company’s future. A “Creative Report” section, spearheaded by corporate executive officer Yoichi Egawa, revealed that Resident Evil Village will be supported in the future with “free additional DLC.”

Now, we cannot get ahead of ourselves. We can all agree that the best possible outcome would be for the future story based DLC for Resident Evil Village to be entirely free. However, it is also plausible for us to assume this is referring to item-based DLC packs.

Of course, this would be continuing a trend from previous Resident Evil games over the last few years. Resident Evil Village has already received a slew of free DLC packs, such as charms for weapons. At the same time, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 also saw similar item-based DLC packs being made available for free shortly after launch.

Nonetheless, Capcom definitely doesn’t seem done with development on Resident Evil Village. Perhaps this Resident Evil Village DLC could even feature the return of series anti-hero Ada Wong, initially set to appear in the horror sequel but was cut partway through development. That’d certainly be one way to draw players back to uncover more of Village.

In other news, October has seen some big next-gen titles being released, including the likes of FIFA 22, Far Cry 6 and Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood. The title is on track to becoming the franchise’s most successful entry ever.

Capcom has announced that their most recent title Resident Evil Village has surpassed 5 million copies worldwide; this figure also includes digital sales. Capcom also informed us that the game has achieved this feat faster than Resident Evil 7 did, which was also a smash hit upon release, going on to becoming the highest-selling Resident Evil game of all time with 10 million copies sold. If Village keeps up the pace, it will undoubtedly surpass its predecessor, becoming a monumental entry in the franchise’s history.

In reaching 5 million units shipped, Resident Evil Village became Capcom’s 10th best-selling game in the company’s history. 1998’s Resident Evil 2 sold 4.96 million units and was previously No. 10 on Capcom’s all-time top-selling list.

Resident Evil Village shipped 3 million copies immediately on launch in May; this took the entire franchise’s sales past 100 million, another historic feat for one of gaming’s most iconic franchises. In July, it achieved 4.5 million in shipments and has now added another 500,000 more to hit 5 million.

Interestingly, Capcom’s most successful title lies outside of the Resident Evil series with Monster Hunter World. It continues to be their best-selling game overall, with over 20 million copies sold worldwide.

In addition to the games, Capcom recently released Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness on Netflix, while a new live-action Hollywood movie called Welcome to Raccoon City premieres in November. Capcom is most definitely staying busy.

For those who haven’t yet tried Resident Evil Village, I couldn’t recommend it more. I pre-ordered the game and could not put it down upon release. It is a phenomenal game and perhaps one of the finest horror games ever created. If the game interests you, you can purchase it from our Go2Games website.

Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine from Capcom‘s beloved Resident Evil games now come to Fortnite, purchasable via the in-game store!

Considering Fortnite was originally pitched as a minecraft-esque zombie survival before making the switch to Battle Royale, it’s about time Epic Games had the bright idea to crossover Fortnite with one of the most iconic zombie game franchises out there. Not to mention the Horde Mode’s return alongside the addition of Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead.

Chris and Jill are part of S.T.A.R.S, the Special Tactics and Rescue Service, which invariably leads less often to rescue and more often to shooting various flavours of ne’er do wells in the face, ranging from zombie dogs, to zombie people, to crazed cult people, and sometimes even crazed zombie cult people. He wrestles boulders in his spare time while on a mission to save the president’s daughter, she narrowly escapes brain-consumption from the undead masses to be cautioned after on the possibility of becoming a “Jill sandwich”. Could I make it any more obvious?

If Fortnite’s recent zombie craze has got you hankering for more undead tomfoolery, we have good deals on: The Walking Dead Definitive Edition, The Last of Us 2 and more good zombie games here at Go2Games.

Both are available in multiple skins and different harvesting tools are available. You can rep Chris’s Baby-Stealing leather trenchcoat from Resident Evil Village or his Resident Evil 5 look if you wanna be more vanilla. You can also cop Jill’s Raccoon City and business-casual get-ups from Resident Evil 3. The power tools you can whip out include a super hot knife that would make Kano blush (it could probably cut through a Fire Nation ship, leaving thousands to drown at sea… Because it’s so sharp) and an electric stun rod if you’re feeling like experimenting in the bedr- I mean battlefield. The back blings are references to in-game mechanics, such as the typewriter as a saving location and the infamous hand-regrowing herbs for all your barely-escaped torturous boss fight needs.

Overall, pretty good-looking stuff, but considering Venom eventually dropped with a whole movie combo bundle after Let There Be Carnage, I’d advise waiting till the Raccoon City film drops or closer to the time (November 24th) to see if Epic will throw in extra movie-specific skins if you want more bang for your Vbuck.
