The Original Open World Driving Game Was Originally Scheduled To Arrive In Sept 2022!

Nacon has declared that development of Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown has been pushed into 2023 and that the last-generation versions of the game have all been cancelled from development.

From a recent blog post, the developer stated that its “goal with Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is to make it the most polished gaming experience in the franchise by spending more time on its development”.

Nacon’s “Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown” was previously scheduled to be released in September 2022 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Nacon confirmed on Wednesday that the new entry in the long running open world driving franchise will no longer be released for Microsoft‘s and Sony‘s last-generation consoles.

“Finally, with the aim of making the most of the technology in the latest consoles and maximising the overall quality of the game, Nacon has decided to no longer develop Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.”

Nacon also revealed that it is working towards a timeline for several closed betas. While the studio didn’t confirm when these tests would take place, they said the tests would allow them “to gather your valuable feedback so we can keep improving the game’s quality until it releases, while also staying in more regular contact with you”.

Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown was Unveiled in July 2020, the third game in the long-running Test Drive franchise’s open-world Unlimited sub-series promises to let players get to grips with “extraordinary cars” within Hong Kong “a luxurious island world recreated at 1:1 scale”.

“The brand new Test Drive Unlimited keeps the DNA from the first games, and revamps it for the modern era,” promises the blurb accompanying a trailer released last April.

“You have the freedom to progress however you like, the classic open championship concept returns too. Live your best life. Race, cruise, and hang out with your friends until the sun goes down and even after!”

THQ Nordic held its 10th-anniversary showcase last Friday and fans are pumped for the revival of dormant franchises

THQ Nordic announced at the beginning of the month it would host a 10th-anniversary showcase and would be revealing six new game announcements for the event. There were many speculations as to what they might be.

Now, the “return of legendary franchises” as well as “sequels to beloved games” have been revealed and THQ Nordic didn’t miss the mark in how they described what they have in store for its fans.

Spongebob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake

It’s been a while since we have seen THQ Nordic publish a Spongebob Squarepants game so you can imagine the fan’s reaction to hear that after 8 years, we are finally returning to this franchise.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is a 3D platformer set in the colourful, psychedelic world of the Nickelodeon show. The mysterious fortune teller Kassandra grants SpongeBob and Patrick wishes resulting in the two buddies unintentionally opening up portals to strange Wishworlds, causing them to lose all their friends through the portals. Players can explore distinct worlds and use more than 30 cosmic skins to rescue the universe. It is developed by Purple Lamp Studios and will be coming to PS4 and PS5.

Destroy All Humans 2 – Reprobed

Another dormant franchise that is set to make a return is Destroy All Humans!, which is an open world action-adventure video game designed as a parody of Cold War-era alien invasion films. Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed will be a remake of the original game with added features and is being developed by Black Forest Games after the company relaunched the series in 2020. After the KGB blew up his mothership, Crypto seeks revenge and invades the swinging sixties, to travel to iconic places in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, Japan, and even to the Moon. It will be available on PS5.

Outcast 2 – The New Beginning

Outcast 2 is a very long-awaited sequel indeed, with 20 years between the original announcement for the first attempt at an Outcast sequel, THQ Nordic and Appeal Studios have announced they are reviving the cancelled game. Outcast is an action-adventure game where the protagonist Cutty Slack is given the task to escort 3 scientists to the spectacular alien world Adelpha, on a mission to close a black hole. Outcast 2 – The New Beginning is set 20 years after the first game and sees Adelpha finds itself under threat of invasion: a ruthless robot army is exploiting the planet, enslaving and even killing the people. Cutter’s mission is clear: organize a resistance, rescue the people, and get rid of the invaders. It will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Jagged Alliance 3

Another sequel that is coming nearly 20 years after the last instalment in the franchise is Jagged Alliance 3. Jagged Alliance is a series of turn-based tactics video games that centre on strategically controlling mercenary squads, on and off the field, who complete various missions such as freeing countries from oppressive dictators. Jagged Alliance 3, developed by Haemimont Games, takes place in Grand Chien, a nation of rich, natural resources and deep, political divides and the player’s job is to restore order by removing a rogue dictator “The Legion” and locating the missing president. The game will be available on PC.

MX vs ATV Legends

The MX vs ATV franchise is making its debut to PS5 with MX vs ATV Legends. Developed by Rainbow Studios, MX vs ATV Legends invites you to carve your own path to the podium with unprecedented player choice including sponsorship opportunities and special invitational events. In addition, the game introduces an all-new Trails mode that pits players against nature like never before. The game will be available on PS4 and PS5.

SuperPower 3

And finally, another long-awaited sequel to a beloved geopolitical strategy game franchise, SuperPower 3 has been announced by THQ Nordic and GolemLabs. SuperPower is a game series tailor-made for anyone who is convinced they would do a much better job of running the world than the real-life leaders across the globe. SuperPower 3 has been teased to challenge the player’s knowledge about “demography, economics, military strategy,” and more.

It should be noted that while we only got six new game announcements, THQ Nordic also have 28 unannounced games in development, so continue to watch this space.

The giant gaming publishers have announced it will host a 10-year anniversary showcase later this month with exciting news for us in store

THQ Nordic is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year ever since it was formed in 2011 as Nordic Games, and the publisher has announced it will be hosting a showcase later this month packed full of exciting news and anticipated releases.

THQ Nordic was formed in Vienna in 2011 as Nordic Games before it acquired all the leftover properties of THQ in 2013, along with the THQ trademark itself in 2014. The publisher then titled itself THQ Nordic in 2016.

THQ Nordic’s Showcase

The THQ Nordic Showcase will be the first digital showcase hosted by the publisher and will be streamed on September 17 at 8PM BST time on YouTube, Twitch, and Steam.

The showcase will be hosted by The Game Awards executive producer Geoff Knightley and it has been revealed there will be six new game announcements from the event.

It has been teased that the new game announcements will include the “return of legendary franchises” as well as “sequels to beloved games”, some for which fans have been waiting decades for any sign of a continuation.

It is impossible to figure out what legendary franchises THQ Nordic this early on as the publisher currently owns 19 development studios, so the new six games could come from any one of those. Some of the studios THQ Nordic owns include; Bugbear Entertainment, HandyGames, Black Forest Games, Purple Lamp Studios, Gunfire Games, Rainbow Studios and Piranha Bytes.

The action role-playing game has managed to sell over 1 million copies already as well as recoup all its costs in the first week of sale

Against all odds, Biomutant is shaping up to be quite the game.

If you don’t know, Biomutant is an action role-playing game developed by Swedish developer Experiment 101 and published by THQ Nordic. The game was initially released on May 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and managed to break even within the first week of sales. This comes in from Embracer Group’s Interium Q1 2021 financial results.

The action RPG is a post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable, with unique martial art styled combat system allowing to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action. Players have to explore the world and decide whether they want to be the world’s saviour from the plague that’s ruining the land or lead it into a darker destiny.

The game sold so well in its first week that it not only covered the development and marketing costs, but it also covered the money Embracer spent acquiring its developer and Biomutant IP.

This is exceptionally noteworthy as many critics didn’t give much praise to the game, and even some fans rated it lowly on sites like Metacritic.

Yet the game has made the “1 million copies sold” milestone within 3 months of being released, with no previous games attached and is a debut title from the developer, it certainly says something.
