If you read my 5 Brilliant Gaming Stories blog, you’d know that the Danganronpa trilogy, in my humble opinion, have some of the best plot twists in gaming! It’s like if Death Note and Squid Game had a coke-infused orgy with an season of Murder She Wrote and is all the better for it. Needless to say, I’m pretty enthused that the folks at Nintendo recently added the games to a three-in-one game for Switch. And if you wanna get your mits on the Danganronpa PS4 Trilogy, have a butcher’s right here!

The folks at Spike Chunsoft recently tweeted an article detailing various new patch notes. The updates are as follows:

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition Patch 1.0.1

• Improved stability to prevent freezes in School Mode.
• Added auto saves that trigger after each in-game day in School Mode.
• Fixed an issue preventing text from appearing after “%” symbols.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair Anniversary Edition Patch 1.0.1

• Added auto saves that trigger after each in-game day in Island Mode.
• Fixed an issue preventing text from appearing after “%” symbols.

Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp 1.0.3

• Added an in-game purchase log for consumable service items.
• Improved stability to prevent freezes.
• Fixed some graphic display issues.
• Fixed some text issues.
• Other miscellaneous fixes.

My Danganronpa Hottakes (SPOILERS).

Chihiro and The Transphobia Question: Cutting a long story short, one of the first game’s twists relies on everyone thinking Chihiro is a girl, but turns out he was actually a bloke. Consensus within much of the fandom is essentially “good game, shocking twist, but feeds into TERF-y stereotypes”. By no means THE most popular transphobic argument out there, but I’ll admit, having a twist hinge on “this all could’ve been avoided if you just identified as a feminine man” is pretty darn problematic, to put it mildly. That said, I do think it is possible to charitably read an alternative pro-trans interpretation of Chihiro’s character assassination (get it? Because he was LITERALLY assassinated): Essentially, I believe the anti-trans subtext coexists with the fact that Chihiro is one of the most sympathetic characters in the game, and for a murder that took place in the bathroom, no one ever pays lip service to the stereotype of trans women pretending to be women for kicks. And due to literally living in terf island, I’ll top off this bit by saying “hey, if you don’t have the patience to read Judith Butler, check out Lonerbox, Philosophy Tube, Shaun and Jammidodger’s videos on trans topics” if your booty is still firmly planted on farmer McDonald’s fence!

Kaede is best girl, don’t @ me: She plays piano, I play piano, caring and optimistic to a tragic degree, but also not afraid to cut a bih when she thought it would save her friends… Yeah, my kinky switch-ass likes one of the most vanilla characters in-game, sue me!

My Danganronpa Machete Order: Now, once upon a time, I was a strong independent broke b!tch who didn’t need no money. As a result, my first introduction to the danganronpa games was through a letsplay of the second game by Razzbowski, the fresh prince of FNAF. It did spoiler a couple of major twists from the first game, but as far as introductions go, it was a strong one!

Azula always lies… But does Monokuma? To which I say… Well, yes, but actually no? An interesting thing about the series in my opinion is that Monokuma (or whoever’s controlling him at whatever time) really only tells ONE major lie per game, which usually ends up leading to an insane epic climax that leads to the ending. Alot of the murders have a sense of “hell is other people” at times. Ain’t that right Jake Peralta?

PLUS ULTRAAAA! For the less weeb-adjacently inclined, My Hero Academia (or Boku No Hero, on the offhand this makes it’s way to the animemes side of Reddit) is a hit anime based on the manga by Kohei Horikoshi.

Inspired by western superheros and Star Wars (Horikoshi even made official promotional art for The Last Jedi in Japan!), the story follows Izuku Midoriya. He’s a powerless kid in a society where the majority of the population manifests “quirks”, superpowers varying from explosions via flammable sweat to Chef Chocolate’s Sticky Balls!

Bandai Namco recently teased in Weekly Shounen Jump (Jump itself published by Shueisha) that My Hero Academia will be seeing a Battle Royale spin-off game called ‘My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble’.

My Hero Academia battle royale will be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. Plans for a closed-Beta test are in the works and currently, rounds will consist of 24-player large matches. I mean, who needs guns when you can casually slap armed thugs in the face just by getting hard!?

This isn’t the first time My Hero Academia’s dipped it’s oddly-shaped pinky toe in the pool of gaming. My Hero Academia One’s Justice was published by Bandai Namco with mixed results, but would go on to get a sequel. My experience with the One’s Justice games are only limited to playing a few half-remembered rounds of the first one with my brother at Cafe Nero’s before the “global panini”, to borrow a phrase from Sarah Z. They’re 3D one-on-one fighting games in a similar vein to the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games or Jump Force. Besides the gravity mechanics with fighting on buildings and destructible environments, the gameplay is pretty fun-looking, if a bit simple. Not thrilling, but nice.

As for the anime, I loved the first 4 seasons, but then life happened and due to The Powers That Be (mainly a combination of external life stuff and work), I’m quite behind. Highly recommend it to any superhero fans, what with the Marvel and DC crazes going on, or just anyone into good action in general.

Hey Sony, how’s that Scrooge McDuckian money pool treating you after all those PS5 sales? Would be a shame if you weren’t able to keep up with the supply-demand ratio… For you at least, for us PS4 owners, this is kind of a win!

On account of PS5 consoles selling out faster than lemon sorbet on a hot summer day, Sony has announced that production of PS4 games will continue, as Sony currently can’t keep up with supply due to component restraints.

This is based on a recent Bloomberg report, which also revealed Sony intended to stop PS4 production last year! Congratulations gamers, sucking at the teet of corporate enterprise actually means the PS4 will stay relevant even longer. I’m not even being sarcastic, when the Wii discontinued it’s WiFi extras, I was mortified! So, glad that seemingly won’t be happening with the PS4 anytime soon.

As PS5 consoles require more advances microchips, PS4 production will be much easier, and we will be seeing around one million new PS4 units launched this year. Bloomberg also notes that this move will likely improve deals with manufacturing partners for Sony, so I guess it’s not a total loss for the multi-BILLION dollar company, everybody wins!

A Sony spokesperson later confirmed the Bloomberg statements of continued PS4 production this year.

PlayStation 4 consoles first released in 2013 and has since sold over 116 million units to date. In contrast, November 2020’s PS5 sales topped 10 million unit sales in a month, faster than PS4 sales in the same time since launch. Despite this, there was a dip in October sales, which lead to Sony’s chief financial officer making the following statement:

“Worldwide, there is a disruption in logistics, and mainly semiconductor device supply being constrained, and this is having a larger impact [than expected], and as you know, the hardware sales in the first quarter were less unit wise and so this is having an impact on us, and likewise for the second quarter […] “But I think that with our efforts and putting in place different measures, the PS platform momentum can be maintained, and especially to the users who are waiting for the PS5, we want to be able to supply as many PS5s as possible to our customers who are waiting – that is our thinking.”  – Hiroki Totoki.
