The one and Oni Itto has arrived, and his damage does not disappoint!

Considering the increasing difficulty of the Spiral Abyss, overpowered DPS characters are on every Genshin Impact player’s wishlist. Expectations were not too high for the latest 5 star, Arataki Itto. Itto belongs to the geo element, which cannot perform offensive reactions. Therefore, a DPS geo character has to rely on insanely high scaling to produce enormous raw damage. One such similar character is Xiao, who belongs to the anemo element. Much like geo, anemo is typically a support element and Xiao, therefore, has high damage scaling to offset this. Pyro, Hydro, and Cryo characters can instead produce multiplicative reactions like melt and vaporise.

I can safely say, though, that Itto has exceeded my expectations, and I’m very impressed with his damage output. Who better to demonstrate than the latest tanky boss of Genshin? Kageroumaru – let’s battle!

Yes, Ushi – that adorable little cow friend, did indeed do 92k damage when thrown into battle.

Thoma seems fond of him, but you should probably fear this cow.

Itto’s build guide

Before we get too carried away, though, let’s look at my Itto’s stats:

I had pre-farmed for Itto for quite some time, so I immediately took him to level 90. It’s really up to you whether or not to do this. It’s only necessary for characters that utilise swirl. Otherwise, you can save your talent books and keep him at level 80. I recommend only level 90-ing characters you REALLY like.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been lucky in my Signora weekly boss drops (she hates me, but it’s mutual), so his talents are stuck at 8, 7, 8. I also didn’t have many resources left for Gorou and didn’t get that lucky with him in pulls, so he’s sort of C0 and half-built right now. My Itto is also C0, of course… for now…

Weapon

Aaaaand I got pretty lucky on the weapon banner, snagging myself a Redhorn Stonethresher on my first try. I know, sorry for flexing. But honestly, this has never happened to me on the weapon banner before, so I think I finally deserved a good turn. However, if you don’t get so lucky, plenty of good 4-star options are available. The Whiteblind is entirely free to play, or you can get the Blackcliff Slasher from the starglitter shop. If you’re willing to shell out for battle pass, the Serpent Spine is one of the best 4-star weapons in the game.

Artefacts

Here are his stats:

While more critical rate would be preferable, the pieces I have with more crit damage also have defence, so this is his most optimal build given my resources. As always, aim for a 1:2 crit ratio. Prioritise critical rate, damage, and defence in your substats. Itto can struggle with energy regeneration, so some ER in there would be great as well. The problem is less egregious if you plan on running a mono-geo team comp or outfitting Gorou with a Favonius Warbow.

Of course, the best set for him is the newest defence and geo damage boosting set, the Husk of Opulent dreams. This will give you stacks that provide a Geo Damage and Defence bonus of up to 24% each.

Party members

For his teammates, he’s obviously going to have the best synergy with other geo party members. I would use him in a mono-geo composition for the spiral abyss, in order to put Bennett on the other side. Itto will also have Gorou, and other characters benefit from Bennett’s buff more. (That’s not to say Bennett won’t increase Itto’s damage significantly, though. It’s just that characters who completely scale from attack can use it more.)

Speaking of, Gorou is his most obvious companion. Gorou can buff defence, and also geo damage depending on the party members you have with you. Zhongli and Albedo are excellent, with Zhongli providing consistent shielding and resistance shred and Albedo bringing plenty of sub DPS. If you have Albedo, I’ve made a guide for him before, which I highly recommend. But if you don’t have them – don’t fret.

Geo traveller is a viable geo sub DPS, and even Noelle can work for extra shielding and some healing. You can get more creative with comps, but I recommend bringing at least one more geo character to benefit from geo resonance. Additionally, you’ll likely want a shield character. This doesn’t necessarily have to be another geo teammate – Diona or Thoma can also help you out here. Even Xinyan could be viable since she’ll benefit from Gorou’s buffing, and she can do some excellent burst damage.

I’ve personally been using Itto, Gorou, Diona, and Bennett in the open world. As you know, if you’ve read my Genshin blogs, I really love Bennett. So having Diona there to compliment geo resonance while also providing some melt reactions for Bennett is an enjoyable set-up for me.

Attack pattern

If you have no idea how Itto’s kit actually works, I’ve got a whole article dedicated to it. The gist of it is that he can build up stacks with his normal attacks and skill (thanks, Ushi) and then those stacks are consumed to unleash powerful charged attacks. When you have the full 5 stacks on him, the oni face behind him will glow, letting you know it’s Unga Bunga time. While you don’t really need to master the perfect attack pattern to do a lot of damage (I’m certainly far from doing so), it does help maximise his damage.

Use his burst, followed by Ushi, 3 normal attacks, 4 charged attacks, 4 normal attacks, and finish up with a full 5 charged attacks.

Should you pull for Itto?

If you are reading this but haven’t yet decided whether to try and get this Oni on your team, you may be wondering if he’s worth pulling for. If you like the geo element and already have built a few geo characters, then it’s a no-brainer. If you’re a bored endgame player wanting to start building a mono-geo team, then go for it. However, if you’re mid-game and in need of a strong DPS, you may want to wait for somebody less niche. Ultimately though, he’s a powerful DPS character, and you can’t really go too wrong with that. If the idea of skipping him gives you FOMO, then this is your sign to go for it! Just remember that primogems are a limited resource for most of us. Going for one character usually means not pulling for another character, and Ganyu and Xiao reruns could be on the horizon.

Personally, I adore Itto’s personality, design, and playstyle. No regrets to be found here! I’m looking forward to triple crowning this loveable rogue.

Itto’s new character trailer has him performing on the stage, but someone else stole the show.

There’s just one week left until the release of the next 5 star in Genshin Impact, himbo extraordinaire, Arataki Itto. He’s one of my most anticipated 5 stars yet, and this week can’t go by fast enough.

MiHoYo released his character trailer this morning, showing him performing a play on the stage with his gang members.

However, one audience member in particular stole the spotlight. At the end of the video, Thoma can be heard saying ‘my lord, look backstage…’. There’s only one person that Thoma could be talking to here, and that’s Kamisato Ayato – brother of Kamisato Ayaka, and Yashiro Commissioner.

Ayato is supposedly close with Thoma, so much so that Thoma stayed loyal to the Yashrio Commission even after being freed from his duties by Ayato. It is also suggested that Ayato inspired Thoma so much that he received his vision.

In the video, Ayato can be heard responding to Thoma, commenting that the play is entertaining and saying it’s a ‘pity that the Tenryou Commission has arrived’. This lines up with some of the leaked storylines that claim Ayato has a bit of a cheeky streak and enjoys mischief.

Leaks also suggest he had some sort of friendship/rivalry with Itto, as the two frequently hold beetle fights (that Ayato always wins). It’s therefore quite fitting that he’d be teased in Itto’s character teaser.

Ayato’s English voice

Ayato English voice seems to have a rather silky, elegant voice with a playful lilt, quite fitting for his character. Unfortunately, if you recognise the voice – you’ll need to keep it hush-hush.

While anime fans that frequently watch dubs might recognise the voice actor based on the clip alone, laws around voice actors and NDAs mean revealing the information could cause serious issues for them.

Basically, you put them at risk of being accused of breaking their NDA. It’s stupid, I know, but that’s how things are at the moment. So if you recognise Ayato’s voice – please do try to refrain from spreading that everywhere.

Instead, I’d like to compliment the officially announced VA for Itto, Max Mittelman. He definitely brings Itto’s delinquent-esque charm in spades.

Ayato’s Japanese voice

Ayato’s Japanese voice, on the other hand, was officially credited in the Japanese trailer.

The Japanese voice has a similar elegant vibe with a playful lilt, but is higher pitched. The voice is accredited to none other than Akira Ishida. You’ve definitely heard him in something or other, most likely as as Kaworu Nagisa from Evangelion. He’s been in everything from Demon Slayer, to Persona, to Bungou Stray Dogs.

Though far more niche, I know him as Shikishima from Bad Apple Wars and Kent from Amnesia. Not only one, but TWO of my otome boyfriends. Ishida has quite the range!

While we have next to no information about Ayato, what he looks like, or when he’ll be coming to Genshin Impact, excitement is ramping up. It seems that, just like his sister, he’ll be a long awaited and anticipated 5 star.

Genshin Impact’s 2.3 livestream contains all you need to know about Itto’s kit.

The banner of the highly-anticipated Arataki Itto has almost arrived. We finally got a proper look at him and Gorou, along with the 2.3 announcements for Genshin Impact.

In this part of the live stream, Itto’s English VA, Max Mittelman, explains how his kit works. First, obviously, he is a claymore-wielder who holds a geo vision – much like Noelle.

His second and fourth attacks grant him stacks of Superlative Superstrength. His elemental skill and sprints keep his normal attack pattern from resetting, making it easier to manage your stacks. The Superlative Strength stacks will allow him to do charged attacks without using stamina, consuming the stacks. The consumption of his final stack will boost the power of that specific attack. You can, of course, do charged attacks without stacks, consuming stamina and not reaping any of the benefits of the stacks. However, after you unlock his talent, Arataki Ichiban (literally meaning Arataki Number One) consecutive charged attacks will increase his resistance to interruption and boost his attack speed. The following talent, Bloodline of the Crimson Oni, will boost his charged attacks by his defence.

His elemental skill has him hurling a cute cow called Ushi. It seems Ushi will do initial damage when thrown and will grant Itto stacks when he is put on the field. He also gives Itto one last stack before he dips; nice! Ushi is considered a geo structure and will stick around to taunt enemies, basically granting you more stacks. He’ll hang about until his HP hits 0 or his duration ends. I wonder if he’ll resonate with Zhongli’s pillar?

Itto’s burst allows him to enter his Oni King form. This will convert all his attacks into Geo damage and cannot be overridden – so you can use him with C6 Bennett, no problem. It will also make his first and third attacks (instead of his second and fourth attacks) grant him his Superlative Superstrength stacks. Kind of a random change, but alright! His elemental and physical resistance will drop during his burst, but he’ll boost his attacks based on his defence as well as an attack speed increase. He should be fine if he’s got high defence and shielding party members helping him out, anyhow.

Lastly, his exploration talent will get you more wood when Itto’s in your party. Pretty simple!

He seems like a character who can be played meticulously with careful management of his stacks, or the more casual player can just go crazy hack-and-slashing without thinking too much about it. He seems really fun to play, and I love his character design and voice lines. The idle animation of him combing his hair is top tier, too. What a loveable rogue.

Meet the fearsome leader of the Arataki Gang, who spends his time collecting bugs and playing games with the local kids

I meant to write something, but my head empties when I look at Itto’s character image… what was I going to say? Give me a minute.

Right, so. Itto. He’s the first male character in Genshin Impact we’ve seen that doesn’t fit the bishounen (pretty boy) image. He’s bringing a more typically masculine appeal to Genshin, and fans are eating it up.

Itto’s personality, which so far we can only gather from other characters dialogue about him, seems to fit his image. In short, he’s a musclehead who likes to engage in silly debates with Kujou Sara via notice board. He wants to train Onikabuto (stag beetle-like creatures) to fight, and despite being the head of a gang, he spends most of his time playing games with the kids of Inazuma.

I’m a big fan of the himbo archetype, so I’m already doing calculations to work out how to save enough primogems for this loveable brute.
(I can’t add usually, but when it comes to Genshin, I’m suddenly a maths whizz.)

The hype around this character has been building since a leaked image of his character model started circulating on October 5th.

Though it only showed the back of his character, many players were excited by his seemingly large stature, and people started making fanart before we had even seen his face!

Genshin officially announced the character on October 11th.

The announcement came as a surprise and is perhaps an effort on miHoYo‘s part to beat leakers to the punch. The tactic seems to have worked, given the massive excitement surrounding Itto already and the copious amounts of fanart I’ve seen on Twitter.

Some players are voicing their worries that Itto will have the same skinny model as Childe, Zhongli, Kaeya etc., despite being advertised as a beefcake in the official art. I have to say, I do share this concern. It would be really great to see a more diverse selection of character models in Genshin.

However, miHoYo may be able to make him appear buffer with design elements while maintaining the same model – think how Kaeya appears broader than Childe thanks to his shoulder-wear and… cleavage.

Everything we know about Itto – and his competition…

We’ve already discussed Itto’s appearance and personality – AKA what makes him appealing on a personal level – but what about gameplay and lore?

We don’t have a whole lot to go on here: essentially, all we know is that he belongs to the Geo element and is a claymore-wielder. Sound familiar? That’s because we already have a character that fits that bill: Noelle.

The adorable maid to the Knights of Favonius is basically guaranteed to all players through the beginner’s wish banner. Not only that but she’s made frequent appearances on rate-up over the past year. A lot of players have a lot of constellations on her because of this, myself included. And let me tell you, C6 Noelle is a monster. Not only does she offer exceptional support capabilities (both shielding and healing), but her crazy burst provides a lot of DPS as well.

Right now, we have no clue as to whether Itto will be a support-focused or damage-focused character. I’m leaning towards assuming the latter because Noelle really does have the support role covered, along with Albedo and Zhongli. Despite it being more defensive, Geo is my favourite element, so I would be thrilled to see a Geo 5 star who can output some crazy raw damage. It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new hypercarry character, so who knows? Then again, quick-swap teams have been overtaking the META.

One small glimmer of hope is the weapon that Itto dons in the leaked image. It appears to be from the Jade line – a series of offensive weapons with crit rate substats. If the BETA player was using this weapon on him, and it matches the Jade Cutter and Spear in terms of stats, then that would suggest he has offensive capabilities.

Let’s just hope we don’t end up with another Kokomi vs Barbara debacle with Itto vs Noelle.

Another neat tidbit about Arataki Itto is that he’s part Oni, similar to characters like Ganyu and Yanfei, descendants of Adepti. Unlike these two government officials, though, Itto leads a far more… chaotic lifestyle.

As much as I’m enjoying the current event dedicated to Childe, an all-time favourite of mine, it feels like it’s been ages since I got my hands on a new limited 5 star, so Itto cannot get here soon enough!
