A fan of the series has compiled a useful timeline depicting the different eras that the Assassin’s Creed series covers

Ubisoft’s first entry in the Assassin’s Creed series was released in 2007, and was set during the Third Crusade. Since then with twelve entries in the game; different moments in history and locations have been covered. With its non-linear settings, it can be difficult to keep track of where and when things were.

Reddit user Chapere has created a timeline which looks at the 12 main games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In the order of when they take place, the games are Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla, the first Assassin’s Creed, the three games of the Ezio Trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Assassin’s Creed 3, Unity, and Syndicate. What is important to make note of is that Assassin’s Creed: Liberation, the Chronicles trilogy, and all DLC are not depicted on this timeline.

The earliest recorded date in the series is just before 400 BC with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, set in Ancient Greece. The latest date in the series is set in the 17th century with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, set in Victorian London.

A pattern to make note of is that Assassin’s Creed titles get more tightly packed the closer they get to the present day. Five out of twelve games in the series, take place after 1700. Meanwhile, the three most recently released games are the most spread out and earliest in the timeline. For example, the empty space of time portrayed in between Origins and Valhalla is the largest on the timeline, and is larger than the gap between Valhalla and the original Assassin’s Creed.

The games chronologically tell different parts of what is the same story until after the release of Assassin’s Creed Rogue, with the exceptions of Black Flag and Rogue. However, in regards to the overarching narrative after Assassin’s Creed Rogue, that chronological approach has been abandoned.

This could lead to Ubisoft utilizing their creative liberties with regards to historic settings, with a greater amount of games in earlier periods existing within future entries. Comments on the Reddit post above suggest exploring locations and settings such as during the Chinese Dynasty, Ancient Rome, or Spain during the Moorish Invasion. It would be interesting to see Ubisoft’s takes on different cultures the further back they go into history.

Legendary first person shooter receives Christmas No.1 spot in the UK chart!

Now we all knew that this was coming and, sure enough, the COD franchise has done it and taken the Christmas No.1 spot in the UK all-formats chart with ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’. Thanks to a PS4 bundle promotion, the game overtook FIFA 15 in the eleventh hour!

Activision’s shooter series has now topped the UK Christmas chart on five separate occasions.. Wow! FIFA 15 was the clear frontrunner, but has now dropped into second place. 

Amazingly, a 97% surge in sales managed to see ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ into fifth place. ‘The Crew’ also saw a similar push and has taken the sixth spot, as retailers lowered the game’s price by at least £15.

Ubisoft apologises for Unity with free DLC

As a way of saying sorry for shipping a broken game, Ubisoft will be releasing a FREE DLC, “Dead Kings”, for all PS4, Xbox One and PC players who buy Unity. A release date has yet to be announced.

“Unfortunately, at launch, the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues,” Ubisoft Montreal boss Yannis Mallat wrote in a blog post. “I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.”

With this free DLC, anyone who has bought the Gold Edition or season pass of Unity will receive a FREE game from Ubisoft. Players will get to choose, when the offer goes live, from Far Cry 4, The Crew, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Just Dance 2015 and Rayman Legends.

The latest patch for Assassin’s Creed: Unity is full of fixes and tweaks to the much-maligned action game.

I must say that this is very kind of Ubisoft… Although I think I speak for everyone when I say that those hilarious unfinished characters will be sorely missed! So here is one again, just for jests…

Ubisoft’s biggest games of 2014 are axed from Steam in the UK.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity, The Crew and Far Cry 4 are nowhere to be seen. Not even on Steam’s US site…

None of the aforementioned three games are available through Steam’s US store. Here is what was originally voiced in the first place:

Far Cry 4, Assassin’s Creed: Unity and The Crew will only be available to PC gamers in Britain via Ubisoft’s uPlay store. In light of this, a Ubisoft representative has voiced that the decision was not final.

“We’ve been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed Unity but for the time being the game is not available via Steam in the UK,” Ubisoft have said. “In the meantime, UK customers wishing to purchase the game digitally can do so by visiting the Uplay store, our retail partners or other digital distributors.”

Although the Steam editions of these games will not be available in Britain, they will still be able to be purchased digitally through GreenManGaming and uPlay.

The reason for these three games’ absence on the Steam website is unclear, though games do not tend to appear on the platform due to legal reasons. For example, back in 2011, EA removed some of it’s games from Steam over DLC royalty rates disagreements. As well as this, Steam owner Valve have run into a number of disputes in the past regarding EU law.
