F1 22 Coming in July

Codemasters have released a trailer and announced the release date for this year’s official Formula 1 game. The F1 game is set to be released July 1 this year and is available to pre-order now.

Codemasters was recently acquired by EA and this F1 22 game marks the first fully developed EA Sports Formula 1 game. You can watch the trailer below, although be warned it reveals nothing specific about the game and doesn’t include any gameplay.

New Regulations in Formula 1

This year marks a new era for Formula 1 as the championship has undergone the most drastic overhaul of the regulations for years. The cars have new aerodynamics with ground effect being allowed for the first time since the 1980s. The regulations have been designed to allow for closer racing between cars.

In the previous years, F1 cars struggled with overheating and being unable to overtake as they were stuck in the dirty air caused by the car in front. The new regulations aim to reduce the wake of the cars, allowing for closer racing. This includes a simplified front wing, winglets over the front tyres, underfloor tunnels and a wider rear wing. In addition, 18-inch tyres and wheel covers have been introduced. However, despite the simplified wings and removal of bargeboards, the cars are still heavier this year. This is partly due to the larger, heavier tyres but also due to the new crash structures that have been designed to improve safety.

Changes reflected in the game

The new F1 22 game will include these new regulations and new-looking cars. Lee Mather, the Senior Creative Director in F1 at Codemasters, confirmed that they have updated the “physics” to “accommodate” the new aero and tyre rules. He said it would make the game “more true to life.” However, it is hard to say what impact it will have on the actual gameplay. The game will also receive new AI adaptability, designed to make it easier for new players. Furthermore, there will be two new ‘Immersive’ and ‘Broadcast’ race-modes to make it either more challenging or cinematic.

The F1 2022 World Championship also features a new track this year, with racing in Miami in a fortnight’s time. There is set to be a new race in Las Vegas as well in 2023. This would mean three races in the USA – further signs of the growing interest in Formula 1 after the Netflix hit Drive to Survive. The F1 22 game will feature the new Miami track as well as changes made to the Australian and Abu Dhabi tracks. Fans that pre-order the Champions Edition of the game before May 16 will receive a “time-limited Miami-inspired content pack.”

EA Sports F1 22 is available to pre-order here and is available across Xbox, PlayStation and PC – and will be compatible with VR.

F1 2021 is available at Go2Games on PS4 and PS5. It is also available on Xbox One and Series X. Earlier this week, F1 2021 was made available on the Xbox Game Pass.

The ‘Tarmac Terrors’ update for Dirt Rally is now available for download. 

Codemasters have confirmed that the latest update for Dirt Rally, version v.0.5, is available to download from Steam now. The update adds twelve new German stages, five new cars, as well as various fixes to improve game performance. A full run-down on all the new content can be found below:

• 12 new rally stages based at Baumholder in Germany
• Owners Club Online Events – A second DiRT Daily where you compete in your own car
• A second weekly event where we’ll be experimenting and throwing new challenges at you
• 5 new rally cars featuring new Group B RWD & Kit Car Classes
• Opel Kadett GT/E 16v
• Opel Manta 400
• Lancia 037 Evo 2
• Seat Ibiza Kitcar
• Peugeot 306 Maxi
• New calibration and options screens in “Advanced Wheel Settings”  (added in v.0.4.5)

Alongside all of the new features, here are the full list of fixes:

• Error 41 – Fixed instances of the game not booting when there is less than 2GB of free space on C:\ drive. This was one of the causes of the dreaded error 41.
• Achievement – “Going up in the world” will now pop if you had previously purchased a Hillclimb car but not received the achievement.
• Stability – Driving the Peugeot 405 T16 would sometimes cause stability issues, we’ve fixed those now.
• Graphics – Quite a few changes for users running Nvidia SLI. That weird black and orange screen bug is fixed and we’ve solved the graphical corruption when using SLI and anti-aliasing on high/ultra graphical presets.
• Audio – The engine audio level in cockpit view can now be properly controlled by the slider.
• Gameplay – The reset button should appear sooner during those awkward moments when you beach your car at the side of the road. Though we advise not beaching your car.
• Gameplay – Sometimes you could rev the engine so hard on the Audi Sport Quattro the “Recover vehicle” prompt would pop up, it won’t do that anymore.
• Gameplay – We’ve planted some trees and shrubs in areas of Greece and Wales where we spotted that some of you were taking shortcuts. Taking some cuts in rally is cool but these cuts were definitely not cool.
• Gameplay – Fixed a loophole which would let you continually repair your car in Online Hillclimb events.
• Gameplay – Online Hillclimb events will now factor in slower times from Run 2 and they won’t overwrite faster times from Run 1.
• Message box – Stopped the Promotion message box from incorrectly displaying when you have completed the Masters Championship and finished in the top 3 positions.
• Save – Your advanced set ups should now save as expected
• Oculus – Sometimes the background on the main menu would vanish, we’ve fixed that now.
• Online Events – You’ll now be disqualified if you don’t start moving within a minute
• Leagues – Made the text on the league screens easier to read on lower resolutions.
• Audio – Pre-update your co-driver may have become a little disinterested if you left the centre of the track from time to time, we’ve spoken to him about his attitude.
• Audio – Ever had two sets of music play over a replay? That’s not a remix version and it should stop happening from now on.
• Controller Fix – Fixed an issue which meant players couldn’t change the stage conditions when using the Microsoft Sidewinder Wheel.

Dirty Rally is available to download on Steam Early Access.

Overlord

Codemasters have teased a brand new game. Oooooh!!

It has been confirmed, by Codemasters, that Overlord will be returning in an all NEW game! Yesterday, the publisher released a teaser for the new title and more details are expected on this in the very near future. 

The details on the exciting new venture in the franchise remain very vague, but the YouTube video suggests that the game will be a four-player ordeal and rather different from the previous instalments of the game. Having said this, it appears to more alike to the 2009 DS game, Overlord: Minions. Perhaps we have an MOBA on our hands?!
