Nintendo have scored a winning goal with their newest title Nintendo Switch Sports topping the UK Charts for the past three weeks.

Nintendo seems to have grabbed the attention from Switch players across the country with a truly action packed title. Nintendo Switch Sports has even stood above other beloved Nintendo exclusive titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Also leapfrogging two powerhouses, LEGO Star Wars: the Skywalker Saga that had been keeping the Nintendo’s off top spot and PlayStation exclusive Horizon: Forbidden West, this new title has really hit it out of the park…apologies for the pun.

The highly requested Wii sports sequel Nintendo Switch Sports brings a familiar assortment of sports to play with your friends and others from around the world online with Badminton, Bowling, Football, Tennis, Volleyball and Chambara (basically a sword fighting game with whole range of attacks and dual wielding, multiple ways to take out an opponent). If proof is needed that the game has been successful since release it even tops Japan’s video game charts. It seems that time is key with the game facing very little competition with only one other major game being released recently Evil Dead: The Game. Seemingly a slow month for game releases Nintendo will be content with the results of the current UK Charts but maybe not on consistency as Switch Sports has had a 54% drop on week to week sales. May has always been known to be a quiet time in the calendar for gamers so Nintendo Switch Sports could stay at the summit of the charts for longer than expected with no new big games coming until June and July.

With many people still struggling to get their hands on the new PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X and a worldwide pandemic, the Nintendo Switch has become a safe haven for many gamers, selling over 100 million units and becoming Nintendo’s biggest selling console of all time, dwarfing the Nintendo 64, Game Cube and the Wii. Later in the year they will continue to capitalise on their soaring popularity by releasing more long awaited titles such as Mario Strikers: Battle League, Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

As we’ve just covered, the biggest LEGO Star Wars game ever to exist is set to be making its way onto our consoles come April 5th. However, according to recent reports, the development process wasn’t the sunshine and rainbows you’d of expected it to be. Let us explain why.

Since 2017, the game has been through devastating development problems that included extensive crunch, mismanagement and high staff turnover. Unfortunately, several current and former developers from TT Games have described a culture where working overtime was effectively mandatory, with concerns about employee welfare going largely unnoticed.

Speaking about overtime hours, one employee said they were “a very soft-spoken blackmail,” and were told things like “‘If people don’t start doing overtime, there’s going to be problems.'”

TT Games Must Change Their Workplace Antics For Future LEGO Games

Whilst back in 2005, TT Games presented overtime as voluntary and paid, since 2010 that has changed. They transformed their overtime into supposed ‘fleixtime’, another fancy way of saying extra hours essentially.  Overtime would result in extra pay or days off, but “flexitime,” which was capped at 40 hours, could be exchanged for late starts and additional holidays. Subsequently, developers would be warned about not meeting deadlines, causing stress and anxiety in the workplace.

Not only this, but there have also been reports that women were subjected to bullying, comments about their appearances, and were paid less than most male employees. In an April 5, 2020 gender pay gap report, women at the company only made up 2.4% of the highest paid jobs and only 8.7% of the employees in the upper middle hourly pay quarter.  This isn’t good enough TT.

Managing director Tom Stone held a meeting back in 2017 for feedback and, according to employees, didn’t do much to alleviate these problems. Stone told Polygon he had “no reports of bullying,” at the time, and that “to give it balance we had plenty of people, even the same people, say, ‘I absolutely love being here and I love working on Lego games.'”

Hopefully, these problems will be addressed more promptly in the future. We want to enjoy our LEGO games whilst also knowing the developers enjoy making them too.

The Force is strong with us all once more, as a new game play overview trailer for the hotly anticipated LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has arrived! The trailer treated us with a variety of new additions by showing off planets, characters and many more game play features which we cannot wait to get our hands on!

Not only this, but we’ve finally received a concrete release date after what has been years of delays. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is set to arrive on April 5th 2022, just over two months away. Those endless hours waiting for the game are looking like they’re finally going to be paid off, especially if this trailer is anything to go by.

Before we delve right into everything the new overview has to offer, why not check it out for yourself down below:

What’d we all think of that then Star Wars fans? It looks pretty amazing doesn’t it? I’ve certainly been waiting long enough for this one, as have many of you out there I’m sure.

Whilst we will have a look at all the new features in great detail, can we firstly just take a moment to appreciate the Holoprojector system. It looks like this’ll be how we’re able to travel to other planets, unlock and select characters, view missions as well as everything else. Whilst it doesn’t quite have the same energy as Dexters or The Cantina, it really does show off how vast this world is going to be!

It should be noted that the game will also allow you to experience the trilogy in whatever order you see fit. Are you a purist who wants to play the episodes as they were initially released? Or would you prefer to experience the Saga in a more chronological order? The choice is completely yours!

Anyway, enough about that. It’s time to take a deeper look at everything the latest trailer went through to get us even more hyped. Here we go!

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga- New Characters

Boasting over 300 playable characters, this is obviously going to be the biggest character roster in a LEGO Star Wars game to date! Whilst many of them have been confirmed previously, we’ve managed to get a look at some of the different play-styles they’ll use.

The likes of Jabba The Hutt, Mace Windu and Boba Fett are all shown to be in action (with Jabba moving much faster than we expected we must say). Whilst not every character is shown in the game play, we can have a quick glimpse of them in the menu. This includes sequel characters such as Carib Diss, which will be a cool new addition to say the least. Previously ignored prequel characters such as Bail Organa and Captain Antilles are even showed off here!

It certainly looks like they wont be messing about this time. Players will struggle to find any character in the films not present in the game, which we cannot wait for.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga- New Combat

Fans of the original set of games will have immediately noticed the different combat and health systems in the new trailer. Instead of the Hearts system, it seems now we will have health bars, as will our foes. As a result, it looks like we will finally be able to know now when our enemy is close to defeat now.

Additionally, the weapon variety on display is much more expansive than previous editions. Whilst before we were limited to essentially just a lightsaber or blaster, there now seems to be so much more to offer! The over-the-shoulder shooting mechanics which we saw in LEGO Force Awakens reappear, but it’s the lightsaber combat that really catches our eyes here.

The Star Wars franchise is famously known for exciting duels throughout the series, so being able to incorporate this properly into the LEGO game is an absolute necessity. The battle between Jedi and Sith looks unbelievably entertaining and alongside the infamous Star Wars scores are sure to provide hours of excitement!

More Planets And Vehicles Than Ever Before

Obviously, no Star Wars game is complete without its vehicles, specifically fighter ships! It’s called Star Wars after all ain’t it, so get ready for some great re-imagining of classic space battles. In the trailer we see both Luke Skywalkers X-Wing as well as Poe Damerons. Moreover, no Star wars trailer is complete without the iconic Millennium Falcon and it was great to see it engage with a Star Destroyer!

Similarly, we cannot wait to explore the various planets the game has to offer. Returning to the likes of Hoth, Geonosis, Endor and Naboo is going to be undeniably fantastic, but the sequel planets appearances are going to be just as cool we reckon. The latest reveal shows off the Sith planet Exegol from Episode 9, which looks to have created an awry environment which will definitely be interesting to uncover.

This really does look like it intends to be the definitive LEGO Star Wars experience. Whilst we can’t go through all the new features here (you’d be reading for ages), believe us when we see they’re endless. And why shouldn’t it be? We’ve waited long enough for it, we deserve every ounce of Star Wars content we can get.

The force has always been strong with LEGO games. From the Episodes 1-3 to the Force Awakens, each title has received critical and commercial success. Everyone remembers loading up their original Xbox’s or PS2’s and getting giddy over taking control of their favourite Star Wars characters in LEGO form. Ah, good times.

However, it has been over six years since any edition to the popular collaboration has been made. Not only this, but Disney have been consistently teasing their fan base with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga by frequently delaying its release. There’s only so much us fans can take, Disney.

It seems that they must have finally heard our frustrations, as they have officially unveiled LEGO Star Wars: Castaways, a new entry in the ever-popular spin-off series. This looks set to be an interesting release, so let’s talk about it.

LEGO Star Wars: Castaways- A Social Action Adventure

This upcoming LEGO Star Wars game looks set to fulfil all your LEGO Star Wars fantasies. From discovering secret worlds to racing micro-fighters, Castaways sounds like it’s going to be a real blast! Taken from the official website, check out some more features below:

Lego Star Wars is coming to a console near you! That’s right everyone, LucasArts are bringing a new Lego Star Wars game for the latest movie, The Force Awakens. The Lego Star Wars franchise has been a very popular group of games in the past and there hasn’t been a game since 2011 but it will return this year.

Shortly after the release of Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith, in 2005, LucasArts decided to make a Lego Star Wars game. Lego Star Wars: The Video Game was the title of the first Lego Star Wars game and was based around the latest three movies: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.

The following year they released Lego Star Wars: The Original Trilogy, which featured the next three films of Star Wars, better known as the Original Trilogy. The films featured on this game were: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

Both Lego games released were incredible and great fun. In 2007 the two previous Lego Star Wars games were made into one big game called, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. This was done so the user only needed one disc for both of the games and they were also released onto the newer version consoles of the time, being the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The last game before the new Lego Star Wars is set to come out was Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. This was based on the animated TV Show, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This game wasn’t wasn’t quite as popular as the previous games, but still a good game none the less.

And now, in 2016, we have a new Lego Star Wars game about to release. The previous Lego Star Wars games were based around two of the trilogies, yet this next game is only about the latest film. I’m sure the game will have as much action and missions as in the previous games but all of the missions being from The Force Awakens.

With the release of the game coming after one film, you can be sure that we will have a game for each of the two new films that are yet to come out, and then perhaps a trilogy game after that. It’s fair to say we have a lot of Lego Star Wars coming our way!
