Despite the fact that only a small portion of the Platinum exclusive material made it into Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, the game’s mascot, Giratina, makes an appearance. Giratina, along with Dialga and Palkia, is a member of the original Creation Trio, and like its counterparts, has very high stats. This, combined with the fact that it can switch between two different forms, makes it a very powerful Legendary Pokémon.

In the original games, you would be limited to Giratinas Altered Forme. This is not the case in the remakes, as you can get the Griseous Orb to change forms after going through a number of steps. Here’s where to find Giratina, and how to get the Griseous Orb in Pokémon BDSP.

Preparing to Catch Giratina

First of all, you need to defeat the Sinnoh Champion and unlock the National Dex by having seen all 151 Pokémon native to the Sinnoh region. After this, speak to Professor Rowan and he’ll give you the National Dex.

In order to prepare for catching Giratina, I recommend bringing some Max Repels and Dusk Balls. The Max Repels will prevent wild encounters with some of the Pokémon on the way, which can be around level 50+. As Giratina is in a cave, the Dusk Balls will have an increased capture rate. You can buy these in Pastoria City.

Another useful thing to have is a Pokémon with Taunt. This will prevent Giratina from using Pain Split, which can be quite annoying when trying to catch it. This is because Giratina can use Pain Split to heal itself if you have more HP. As always, a Pokémon that can inflict Sleep or Paralysis is handy too.

Where to Find Giratina in Pokémon BDSP

Spring Path on the map.

After you’ve got the National Dex, and made your necessary preparations, follow these steps:

Head South from Veilstone City onto Route 214.

Once on Route 214, head South until you see a small clearing in the trees on the right-hand side. Follow the opening around until you reach Spring Path

Head through the grass and HM Rock Climb up the cliffside.

Walk around the right side, ignoring the bridge.

HM Rock Climb down the opposite side you initially came up and enter Turnback Cave

Turnback Cave Puzzle

Once you’re inside the cave, clear it with Defog so you can see. From here, there is a slight luck-based puzzle you must complete. It’s not really a puzzle so much as it is more of a random chance for it to appear in the cave. You will be greeted by some cryptic text inscribed on the pillar that reads: “… Past three pillars… to the sleeping… before 30 is surpassed…”

Essentially, what this means is you must find 3 pillars located within the cave, before entering 30 rooms in the cave. The rooms in the cave are randomized however, so there’s no order to this. It’s completely based on luck if a pillar will appear. You may have to retry a couple times if you are unlucky.

There’s no specific order to go through the doors. Just keep going wherever you like and interacting with the pillars as they appear. When you interact with the pillars, they will tell you how many you’ve found and how many rooms you’ve entered.

Battling Giratina

A wild Giratina appeared!

Eventually you will come across Giratina. Save before interacting if you want to soft reset and be prepared to battle and catch this mighty beast. This will be no easy feat however, as Giratina is level 70 just like the other post-game Legendaries. It has two moves in particular that can make catching it tricky – Pain Split and Shadow Force. The latter makes it so that you can’t use a PokéBall for one turn, as Giratina will be invisible. The former makes it difficult to keep it’s HP low. Putting it to sleep is definitely recommended, as it will make life much easier.

Using the Dusk Balls you bought from Pastoria City will provide a significantly higher catch rate, as you are inside a cave.

Well done, you caught it!

Where is the Griseous Orb in Pokémon BDSP

To unlock the Griseous Orb, you must battle and catch all 13 Legendary Pokémon that are available within Ramanas Park. To do so, you must purchase their corresponding Slates using Mystery Shards. Overall there will be 13 Legendaries to catch, so 13 Slates to buy. That’s a lot of Mystery Shards.

Much digging required!

After you’ve caught Mewtwo, the Slate Exchange will hold Distortion Slates. You can use this to spawn Giratina in its Distortion Forme. Head to the East side of Ramanas Park and use the Enigmatic Pedestal to summon a level 100 Giratina.

Giratina in Ramanas Park.

Now you can’t actually catch this Giratina. But once you have defeated it, it will drop a Griseous Orb. You can give this Griseous Orb to your Giratina to hold, and it will change forms. If you take the Orb away it will revert back to it’s Altered Forme. Now you’re one step closer to completing the Pokédex, with a powerhouse to boot.

Studio ILCA has done a good job of making an accurate rendition of Sinnoh in Pokémon BDSP, especially with the inclusion of some secret Pokémon that can be discovered like in the originals. One of these returning Pokémon is Heatran – a Legendary Fire/Steel type Pokémon who resides deep within Stark Mountain.

It’s not so easy to find however, as it’s located after a maze-like Strength puzzle that can be a little tricky. Here’s a guide on the necessary steps to find Heatran, as well as get past the puzzle.

Where to Catch Heatran in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

First of all, you need to defeat the Sinnoh Champion and unlock the National Dex by having seen all 150 Pokémon in Sinnoh. After this, speak to Professor Rowan and he’ll give you the National Dex.

Travel to the Fight Area. Speak to the Sailor in the South of Snowpoint Cityand he take you to a location. Once you are there, go North and go through the tunnel past the Fisherman who gives you the Super Rod.

Head Northeast on Route 225 until you reach the Survival Area. This is a small village with a PokeMart and PokeCenter. Barry will be there with Crasher Wake. Speak to them and head East after the cutscene plays.

Go through Route 226 until you reach the mountains. Use HM Rock Climb to traverse the structure and go to the right up the staircase. Stop just before the two trainers and climb down the left rock path with the HM again. This will take you to a set of stairs that leads to some water.

Use HM Surf to go past the little house on the island and keep going til you hit land. Go North to Route 227. Get your bike out and go over some ramps. Go up the stairs that are past the house.

Use your bike to ride across a thin beam at the top on the right side. After reaching the end, you will be greeted by an NPC named Buck. When he’s done talking, go forward until you see a set of stairs that leads to a giant gave opening.

You have now arrived at Stark Mountain: Heatran’s domain.

Stark Mountain at the very top of Sinnoh.

How to Get to Heatran

So you’ve made it to Stark Mountain, well done. But we’re not finished just yet. Now you must continue pushing forward, since there’s still a lot more work to be done to capture the Legendary lava Pokémon.

Enter Stark Mountain. You then have to use HM Strength to manoeuvre the boulders correctly. Push the top and bottom boulder to the right, get under, and push the middle boulder up so that’s it against the wall.

Make your way up the mountain and enter the second cave entrance. You will meet Buck again and he’ll ask you to team up with him. Be prepared for some double battles.

After making your way through the room, you will come to a set of stairs that goes to another cave entrance towards the North.

Once you enter this room, a cutscene will trigger. After it plays out, exit Stark Mountain by using an Escape Rope, or retracing your steps.

Fly back to the Survival Area and find Buck. Speak to him. He will then head back to the Mountain, and you’ll have to follow him again.

Annoyingly you have to go through all the previous steps again to get there because you can’t fast travel there unfortunately. Make your way back up to the Magma Chamber, and your prize shall await you. Make sure you save outside the room too if you’re trying to soft reset.

A mighty fine beast indeed.

Heatran is one of the toughest Legendaries to find in Pokémon BDSP, just because the quest to find it is in a fairly obscure location. It’s worth the effort however, as Heatran is quite a powerful Pokémon that would make a good addition to any team if you enjoy using Legendary Pokémon.

Even though Pokémon BDSP stays mostly true to the original games, the Sinnoh remakes also include a few additional features. These features improve upon the initial game’s experience, and provide access to a wider range of Pokémon at different points in the story.

This includes a new way of accessing many of the prior generation’s Legendary Pokémon. Classic trios and duos make a return, although some are version exclusive, through Ramanas Park.

Ramanas Park is a new area added to Pokémon BDSP that allows you to exchange Mystery Shards for Slates relating to Legendary Pokémon that can be used to spawn the corresponding mythical beast.

Johto fans should consider themselves lucky, as one iconic pair that can be caught in Ramanas Park is the Tower Duo – those being the Legendary birds Ho-oh and Lugia.

How to Access Ramanas Park

Ramanas Park’s location on the map. You can catch the Tower Duo here.

Before you can access Ramanas Park you have to complete the story first. After you’ve beaten the Sinnoh Champion and seen all 150 Pokémon, you will be given the National Dex. This means more Pokémon from previous generations will begin to appear too.

After getting the National Dex Ramanas Park will become available. To get there:

Head South of Sandgem Town until you reach the shoreline.

Use HM Surf to cross the water East along Route 219.

Carry on through Route 220 and Route 221 until you get to Ramanas Park.

Lugia and Ho-oh will appear in the Squall Room or Rainbow Room after you have met certain requirements in the park. You can exchange Mystery Shards for Slates that can be found in the Grand Underground. These will spawn the corresponding Legendary, so hopefully you’ve had a chance to do some digging by now.

Where to Get Mystery Shards

To get Mystery Shards you must dig in the Grand Underground. Use the Explorer Kit to access the underground network of caverns.

Once underground, use your pickaxe to dig into the walls. You have a random chance to dig up some Mystery Shards or Mystery Shard (L). Each Slate costs 3 Mystery Shards or 1 Mystery Shard (L).

How to Unlock Ho-Oh and Lugia in Pokémon BDSP

It’s important to note that Ho-Oh is exclusive to Brilliant Diamond, and Lugia is exclusive to Shining Pearl. To be able to catch them in their respective games, you must first purchase the Rainbow Slate or Squall Slate respectively. You’ll have to trade if you want both in one game.

To unlock the Rainbow Slate, you must first purchase the other 8 Slates and catch their related Pokemon. Here are the requirements in order:

Buy the Discovery Slate 3x to unlock and catch Regice, Registeel and Regirock. More slates will be available after all three have been caught.

If you are playing Brilliant Diamond – then you must purchase the Johto Slate 3x and catch the Three Legendary Beasts Raikou, Entei and Suicune.

If you are playing Shining Pearl – then you must purchase the Kanto Slate 3x to catch the Three Legendary Birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres.

Next up is the Soul Slate that will unlock Latios and Latias. Purchase this 2x and catch them both.

Finally, the Rainbow Slate/Squall Slate will be available to purchase. Take it to the pedestal, and Ho-Oh/Lugia will be available in their respective games.

Overall, this could be quite a time consuming process depending on how lucky you are with finding Mystery Shards. The minimum amount of shards it will require is 9 Mystery Shard (L), with the maximum being 27 Mystery Shards if you have to pay using the smaller ones.

Ditto is an important Pokémon for breeders and those trying to complete their Pokédex. Today I’m going to tell you where to find them in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. It takes some patience to get to it, as you won’t be able to catch one until after the Pokémon League Challenge.

The reason Ditto is so unique is because it can breed with any Pokémon. If you’re into breeding perfect Pokémon for competitive battling, then Ditto comes in handy for getting the ideal natures and IVs on Pokémon before you train them, as well as getting more of the one-time gift Pokémon.

Upgrading to the National Dex

First off you have to make sur e you’ve completed the Sinnoh Pokedex and nabbed yourself the National Dex upgrade. You can do this with one version of the game, as you only have to encounter each Pokémon once. So long as you’ve seen every Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokedex, then you should be golden.

After you’ve upgraded to the National Dex, you’ll be able to catch all Pokémon up to Gen 4 as well of a bunch of new Legendaries.

Where to Catch Ditto in Pokémon BDSP

After you’ve obtained the National Dex, head to route 218 and use the PokéRadar while the National Dex is active. Certain patches of grass will shake when you activate the PokéRadar, and this is where ditto will appear. It has a 20% chance of spawning, so it shouldn’t take you very long to find it at all.

Ditto can also be found in the Grand Undergound, as it’s located in the Stargleam Cavern and Dazzling Cave chambers after you’ve beaten the Elite 4.

Drifloon is among the rarer Pokémon in the new Diamond and Pearl remakes, as it will only appear on a certain day after completing a certain story event. You can only catch it in one location, so it can be easy to miss. If you’re trying to complete the Pokédex, then here’s how to catch a Drifloon for yourself.

How to Catch Drifloon in Pokémon BDSP

First, you must complete the Team Galactic event at the Valley Windworks.

After defeating Mars, return to the Valley Windworks on the Friday following the completion of this event. Drifloon will be there floating in front of the Valley Windworks building ready to be caught.

Outside Valley Windworks on a Friday.

Drifloon will evolve into Drifblim at level 28.

Where to Spot Drifloon in a Battle

If you’re only trying to see Drifloon for your Pokédex and aren’t worried about catching one, then you can spot it elsewhere. But you must be careful as it’s easy to miss this battle.

One of the Trainers inside Hearthome Gym has a Drifloon as part of their team. To progress in the Gym you have to answer some basic questions. Get it right, you move forward. Get it wrong and you must battle a Trainer.

Hearthome City Gym.

If you choose to answer them all correctly, it’s possible to you will skip this battle. So, ensure you battle all Trainers in Hearthome City Gym so that you don’t miss spotting it for your Pokédex.
