Sony has confirmed that the critically acclaimed game Persona 5 will be leaving the PS+ collection on may 11th, 2022, in a new blogpost that also confirmed Aprils PlayStation plus games. If you have the title in your library when it is removed, it will still be playable as long as you maintain a PS+ subscription.

Persona 5 tells the story of Joker, a troubled youth who ends up being relocated to Tokyo while on probation after a false assault charge. He quickly finds himself drawn into a wider world, where him and his new-found friends “the phantom thieves are tasked with entering the minds of people around them and Stealing their “treasure” in an attempt to reform them in some way. in the background of this, people all over the city are falling under the effects of something referred to as “mental shutdowns”, and it is ultimately down to Joker and the phantom thieves to track down the cause of this strange plague.

The PS Plus collections features a series of PS4 titles, including a large number of Sony’s First Party games, along with some third party titles like Fallout 4, Final fantasy XV and Monster hunter world.

PS Plus Collection Launched with the PS5 in November 2020, but not much has changed since then.

Aprils PS Plus games have also been announced, those being “Hood: Outlaws & Legends”, “Slay the Spire” and “SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated”

Sony have also revealed changes to the overall PS+ Subscription, which will combine in aspects of PlayStation Now and now will be a tiered subscription model. This received version will launch in June and will be available for PS4 and PS5.

For the unfortunately unfamiliar: Persona 5 is a story-based game developed by Atlus. Famous on release for it’s viscerally pleasurable jazz-rock soundtrack, fresh take on turn-based Pokemon-style combat, brilliant story and all-around dripping with more style than Roadman Shaq doing the fusion dance with Sidney Poitier (rest in power king). One story mode playthrough averages at 100 hours, so it’s basically like a playable anime season… Or about one one-trillionth the length of One Piece! Speaking of manga, Persona 5 has one of those, find out more on that here!

Needless to say, I guess you could say I am a bit of a Persona 5 fan.

<img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-9841" src="https://blog.go2games.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/persona-5-royal-new-changes-differences-everything-thats-new.original-640x360.jpg" alt="Artwork from Persona 5.
I finished my first playthrough around 2018 or 19, not long before I’d go to university. This was on account of not wanting to have to balance education, exercise, a part-time job and social time with their real-world equivalents! Cut to around 2020, I then did most of another playthrough to see character storylines that I didn’t explore my first time around.

Now it’s January 2022 and Persona 5 Strikers has come to PS+ for a month. I was aware that Persona 5 Strikers was made in the style of the Dynasty Warriors games, so in lay terms, the gameplay would be less turn-based strategy and more hack-n-slashy. What I wasn’t expecting was for Strikers to replicate Persona 5’s style to such a faithful degree: The slick art style, the menu interfaces, enemy health bars being shaped like hearts, the visual-novel audiobook-meets-comic cutscenes, all that good stuff. After the tutorial combat mission, the story scenes kick in and it’s all self-aware to a sacharine degree, with the in-game cast from Persona 5 reminiscing about how it’s been a long time since they hung out together. Business as usual so far, then comes a point where the main cast are talking about how they’ve been getting along with their lives… Then Ryuji, the team’s resident himbo, casually asked “what about you? How’ve you been holding up”? I then preceded to laugh out loud maniacally (lol), only to then read the three dialogue responses I could choose from. “Things are pretty nice”, “eh, it’s whatever” or “… I missed you guys”… AND THERE IT IS! That’s the moment I started crying like… Like… *insert comically hyperbolic parallel here*!

So, what have we learned from this? That it’s cool to be nostalgically passionate about something? That being wink-nudgingly self-aware and poking fun at things doesn’t make you immune to feelings? That maybe attempting to monetize real emotions (or the presentation of real emotions if you want to be cynical) isn’t always bad because it’s sometimes entertaining? In the words of Big Joel, “I don’t know, maybe”! At the end of the day, I wrote this because I had fun doing so and think maybe my way of retelling the story could be fun for you folks too.

The developer’s Sega and Atlus expected to release a new game at the Tokyo Game Show in two weeks

According to a new listing of what is to come at the Tokyo Game Show on October 1st, Sega is due to announce an RPG title at 10pm Japan Time. Due to the timezone difference, UK fans will be able to watch the presentation live at 2PM on the same day.

TGS will broadcast four days of content on YouTube, Twitch, and social media platforms. All programs this year will be broadcast in English with simultaneous interpretation.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-9841 aligncenter" src="https://blog.go2games.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/persona-5-royal-new-changes-differences-everything-thats-new.original-640x360.jpg" alt="Artwork from Persona 5.
There is no solid indication of what the title could be, but with the involvement of Atlus, it could possibly be the next installment of their Persona series. Via a recruitment page of Atlus’ new employees, the development of Persona 6 had been confirmed to be underway. However, the wording of the Tokyo Game Show schedule implies that it won’t be Atlus revealing the new RPG, but Sega.

It could also be a new entry of Sega’s Sakura Wars series, which had recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. This series had also received a soft reboot in 2020 which received positive acclaim, so for the series to receive an extra boost with the series behind Persona sounds interesting.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-9851 aligncenter" src="https://blog.go2games.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/sakura-wars-review-640x360.jpg" alt="Sakura Wars art.
We will have to wait and see what will unfold from the two companies when Tokyo Game Show actually comes on October 1st, 2PM GMT (10pm Japan Time).
