The Amazing Battlefield 2042 Bug: Super Survivor’s Melee

Battlefield 2042 has been building up a bug collection like Pokemon, but as a self-proclaimed First-Person-Shooter Numpty, I just don’t get the same energy level of “You can do it Bezos, BURN IT ALL” compared to New World roasts… But, I’m not getting paid to half-ass my job, so let’s get stuck in!

Since the Early Access EA Play events of November 12th, there’s been discussion of the game’s bugs as well as related issues like causing Xbox One consoles to crash for a time.

Battlefield features a melee combat execution that takes the player out of first-person mode and into a third-person perspective so they can soak up the successful addition to a kill streak in all it’s morning glory! Some players are dissatisfied with this feature, but I say “bruh, you’re probably the kinda person to buy cosmetics for an FPS, this is probably the only way you’ll get to see your character’s rainbow-printed backpack and unicorn ghillie suit during gameplay, this IS as an absolute win“!

“This is an absolute win” says me, while the folks at DICE and EA are probably aggressively scrambling at their keyboard trying to figure out how to turn off the glitch that lets players survive taking shanked jankers to the neck!

In a YouTube clip posted by the creatively named and not at all vapid-sounding ‘Battlefield 2042 Clips Daily’, a video surfaced showing a player perform a melee kill animation that, shock horror, didn’t do a single drop of damage! Redditors who encountered a similar glitch also claimed that performing melee finishing moves prevents the player from turning right or left. Wish there was a word to describe people affected by this motion-based rigidity, but I suppose “centrist” is taken!

Players affected were also unable to swap weapons and experienced varying levels of lag, though apparently, quickly mashing the knife button helps get rid of the delay.

The employees at EA and DICE have been working hard to fix the bugs plaguing the game. As these issues are largely affecting the Xbox console versions, I recommend picking up the PS4 or PS5 pre-order versions we have over at the Go2Games store. Or maybe Battlefield Revolution, I mean, it has “revolution” in the title, so my leftist ass would eat that up in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for my aforementioned FPS-Noobery.

Call of Duty: Vanguard has FOV Glitch Causing Players Issues

Call of Duty: Vanguard is the series’ latest World War II instalment, putting a more over-the-top twist to the game in favour of its prior attempts to keep closer to historical truth. Players are already familiarising themselves with the game and achieving the crazy killstreaks that Call of Duty titles are known for.

As expected, the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard has had some issues. Some players just aren’t connecting with the game as much as they did with earlier editions. Understandable, considering how much the gaming industry has grown and evolved since Call of Duty’s birth. Maybe it’s just the Xbox anniversary that has me nostalgic, but Vanguard just doesn’t satisfy in the same way World at War did. However, other issues, such as bugs, are also a strong contributing factor towards putting players off.

The bugs in Call of Duty: Vanguard presently range from frustrating to funny. On the funnier end, there’s an elevator bug that sends players into the sky like they’re going up in a big lift.

On the less enjoyable side of things, there is a bug with the FOV settings. At a given FOV level, the capture message displayed while capturing a point appears directly in the centre of the screen. With the writing in the way, this prohibits players from effectively aiming down sights.

According to Reddit users, this bug is caused by a specific FOV setting, however which one is unknown. It is not a new issue in the series, and it is not limited to a single platform, since commenters soon confirmed that it exists on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms. Until the bug is repaired or the FOV option that causes it is found, the maps in the game will likely continue to be messed up, especially those with point capture.

The Likelihood of Vanguard Issues Being Fixed

This is certainly not the only problem that has a major influence on gameplay, but it may be one of the most easily fixed through settings. Other flaws create and have caused greater problems, and not all of them are easily overlooked. The Call of Duty: Vanguard menu problem causes match interruptions, which can entirely disrupt a game’s flow. Issues like this are ones that need addressing sooner rather than later to hang on to the game’s playerbase.

It’s always disappointing to see a big franchise launch afflicted with flaws like these, especially when other aspects that perform as planned are under-appreciated. Vanguard’s launch has been regarded as one of the worst UK launch’s in 14 years. Despite it’s flaws though, the latest entry in the Call of Duty franchise still has a lot to offer, and can only improve through patches and updates. Sledgehammer are not neglecting the game, as they recently announced they have plans to nerf shotguns. They also updated their anti-cheating policy.

The Combat Shield in Call of Duty: Vanguard May Be Broken

The latest Call of Duty: Vanguard title released last week and revisits the franchise’s traditional roots by taking players back to World War II. We follow six Operatives along their various missions and operations throughout the war. Alongside a great campaign, Call of Duty: Vanguard also brings back the multiplayer that Call of Duty is so notoriously renowned for. However, as with any new game, Vanguard does not come without its bugs and glitches.

While the majority of the existing bugs will be resolved in future updates, some of them are currently causing things not to function properly. This is generating a lot of aggravation among some Call of Duty players. Many players are presently frustrated because the popular Combat Shield, previously the Riot Shield, isn’t working the way it usually does.

The Problem with the Combat Shield in Call of Duty: Vanguard

The Combat Shield in Call of Duty: Vanguard functions as a barricade for players. It protects them from incoming gunfire and forcing the opponent to find another means to eliminate them. When the Combat Shield isn’t in use, like it is in prior games like Modern Warfare, it is placed on the player’s back and prevents shots from behind.

This isn’t the case in Call of Duty: Vanguard however, as when it is on your back the shield currently does not block any bullets. Now, based on previous functionality and in the interest of realism, you would expect the shield to block bullets regardless of placement. The fact that it doesn’t block from the back has proven to be quite frustrating for some players.

On the other hand, it could be that this functionality is not actually a bug and has intentionally been changed to balance gameplay. Some players are supportive of the new functionality. It can be considered quite cheesy to use a Combat Shield to protect yourself from the back, with no penalty to movement when it’s stowed away. So, in a way, the functionality of the Combat Shield is not designed in a realistic way regardless. Either solution will lead to frustrations from either side.

If this functionality is not intentional, then it is almost guaranteed Sledgehammer will roll out a fix for this issue at some point in the future. But it could be possible that it is intentional and how the combat shield is supposed to function now. The game has only been available for a couple of days at this point, so of course some malfunctions will be present. If you are someone who uses the shield as a secondary, for now it may be best to substitute it for another secondary until a patch is released.

Other Ongoing Issues Right Now

There are also plenty of additional issues afflicting the game right now, such as Skill Based Match Making putting people in lobbies much over their ability level. Another big issue is that in modes like Hardpoint, the spawn sites either favour one team or leave players vulnerable to spawn killing, which occurs when a player is eliminated shortly after respawning. I am yet to see a Call of Duty release that isn’t plagued by these issues however.

In most games, the spawn points are moved away from the current players on the map to give the player time to assess the area and start playing before confronting an adversary. The spawn sites are now fixed, allowing foes to camp in the zones and rack up dozens numerous kills without giving their opponents time to react and strike back. There have even been cases of people spawning behind enemy lines too, which clearly isn’t supposed to happen. Hopefully the spawn issue will be fixed soon, as this can be one of the most frustrating aspects at times.
