Alright mother *fffff*Final Fantasy fans! Let’s get stuck in!

The “Tragic” Backstory: Final Fantasy VII: First Soldier is Square Enix’s upcoming foray into the world of Battle Royale gaming via the App Store and Google Play. Players will Square (Enix) off against 75 players, going live at 3am on November 17th, but the game is available for download TODAY so you’re on time for the opening event!

The game will also allow for mobile controller support, some of which you can get here at Go2Games like the Razer Mobile Gaming Controller, the Power A MOGA XP5-X Plus and more. We’ve also got Final Fantasy VIII Remastered for just £13.99 if you feel like experiencing the legendary fable of The Final Fantasy Flex Jacket!

Square Enix confirmed that it crossed 2,000,000 pre-registrations so all players get the Shinra Helicopter skin when servers go live.

Fun Features:
A training mode for any newbies and ‘n00bz’ that need a helping hand to “git guud” (pardon my Lothric).

A ‘revamped’ tutorial. As opposed to the ‘unvamped’, ‘prevamped’ and ‘post-vamped’ tutorials, I assume.

The ability to trade collectible monster pieces for items.

Fire up your Shintranet and Shinrattach your Shreddit Card to your in-game account to purchase Shinra Credit Sets. These function similarly to optional purchases in Fortnite and Apex Legends.

My Thoughts:

I haven’t played Final Fantasy VII First Soldier yet, but based on the trailers I’ve seen so far, it looks very fun gameplay-wise! My only gripe is that the game is on mobiles first and is seemingly staying that way, which rubs me in the ever so slightly less comfortable way because I prefer the feel of a curvaceous controller or a nice chunky D(-Pad). Otherwise, while the gameplay looks good, it will basically live and die on how comfortable the player is with the control scheme itself.

As for Final Fantasy as a whole, I’ve only played a little of the Final Fantasy VII Remake, but I am aware of the game’s impact on the wider JRPG scene and how influential it is. I also highly recommend giving the Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid reviews by Jeremy Jahns over on YouTube. He specializes in film reviews, so a little something for everyone… Also, I’d kill a small village to have that man’s beard, I mean-

Final Fantasy 14 is seeing a free Oceania Data Centre expansion confirmed for February 2022.

The Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker expansion is also dropping in December (trailer for Endwalker right hya), with an early access version available on the 3rd and the proper release on the 7th.

A letter from The Producer livestream including Square Enix staff working on Final Fantasy 14 included some of the following highlights regarding the upcoming ‘Data Centre’.

• The Data Centre is called Materia (a nod to the supplementary elemental combat items used in Final Fantasy 7).
• All worlds in the Materia Data Centre will be seen as ‘New Worlds’.
• These worlds will include free world transfer opportunities and special bonuses.

A Brief Finally Fantastic Advertisement: If you’re looking to try Final Fantasy VII on PS4, Final Fantasy XII on Nintendo Switch or Final Fantasy VIII Remastered on PS4, then boy do I know the online gaming store for you! Here’s a hint: HERE!

The development team for Final Fantasy 14 have stated in May that completion of a new Data Centre as requested by fans should be implemented by the 6.1 patch, which will be releasing shortly after the Endwalker expansion. Fans of Final Fantasy 14 in Oceania will see this as an absolute win, as up till now, fans from different countries that aren’t supported by in-game Data Centres had to play using servers from other countries, resulting in congestion issues, albeit not as bad as New World having to temporarily wipe entire mechanics just to make way for full servers. Though let’s not mince words, the whole palava with Final Fantasy 14 players having to enter lottery-like gambling dens to buy in-game houses is a whole other can of worms. Know what’s better than worms though? Actual food! So thank God the game has a cook book that’s equally useful in the virtual and real world.

Brief aside, the housing system will be seeing improvements in the upcoming patch to make waiting times for house purchases easier by not having to stand right by your desired area for housing for hours on end (this system will apply to Empyreum, a new location in Ishgard). Plots can’t be purchased till Patch 6.1 rolls in, but players can still explore various areas for potential purchase in Patch 6.0 to their heart’s content.

Final Fantasy 14 is now available on PC, PS4, and PS5.

We’ve been more than 10-years waiting, 3 console releases later, but it’s finally happened… RPG & Final Fantasy fans, rejoice! Final Fantasy VII is finally getting a HD remake for PlayStation 4.

Square Enix announced the news during Sony’s press conference at E3 – bringing truth to the many rumors. It is unconfirmed whether the game will get any other consoles releases, but the trailer reads ‘Play it first on PlayStation 4’, meaning Xbox One & PC players may have a long wait.

With that said, there is no confirmed release date as yet. While Square Enix have confirmed that they’ve begun production on the remake, PS4 players may still have a long wait ahead.

My “Top Ten” Video Game Soundtracks

Do enjoy a list of ten of my current all time favourite video game soundtracks!

If there’s one thing we have to remember, it’s that you don’t have to be an avid gamer to enjoy some of the glorious masterpieces that accompany these games.. Although I very much enjoy a lot of “tapping” myself. Here are ten of my personal favourites and I hope you all find at least half a second of a piece that you enjoy!

At NO. 10 we have ‘Deadly Premonition’, which was composed by Riyou Kinugasa, Takuya Kobayashi and Hiromi Mizutari. For a seemingly dark and Twin Peaks-ey type of game, the soundtrack is miraculously cheery! I’ve chosen the piece ‘Life is Beautiful’, which plays throughout the game and is horrendously catchy. Give it a listen and I’m sure you’ll agree! You can listen to it HERE.

In at NO.9 we have the infamous ‘Minecraft’ soundtrack, which was composed by Daniel Rosenfeld or, by his alias, C418. This very ambient, dreamy music will aid you in building castles, unnecessarily blowing up animals, spawning copious amounts of villagers and randomly dotting lava about their villages. I, for one, use to it get to sleep at night and occasionally to work to… Which I should probably stop due to my head greeting desk quite violently. You can listen to it HERE. 

At NO.8 we have the ‘Uncharted’ franchise, whose music was composed by Greg Edmonson. ‘Drake’s Fortune’ saw a revolution in graphics for the PS3 and the soundtrack accompanied it’s glory perfectly! Not to mention that Nate is quite the catch.. Just saying! Anyway, you can listen to Nate’s Theme from ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ HERE.

In at NO.7 we have ‘Mass Effect’. Go2Games is Commander Shepherd’s favourite shop on the Citadel! I only speak the truth… Quite an emotional game was ‘Mass Effect 2’ I found, and this specific piece of music which is aptly named ‘Final Conversation’, composed by Christopher Lennertz, gave me a quivering bottom lip. Before I realised, it was too late.. I was bawling into my mug of Horlicks. Listen to the track HERE!

NO.6 sees ‘Halo 3’. This is definitely my favourite out of the franchise. I can’t quite remember the full reason for it being my favourite, but all I know is that I formed an unhealthy obsession with the Gravity Hammer.. This piece is called ‘Unforgotten’ and was composed by Martin O’Donnell, who has composed previously and beyond in the Halo series. This is my favourite piece from the game, HERE.

Bang in the middle at NO.5 is ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’, which was composed by Jeremy Soule. This game is addictive and has lots of dragons in it, so the theme is also aptly named ‘Dragonborn’. Enjoy the dragon sandwich HERE. Quick.. To Alduin’s Wall!

Sliding in at NO.4 (because I want to sound like a radio dj) is ‘Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children’. Now I did enjoy this and I can’t quite believe it was released all the way back in 1997. So many, many Vincent Valentines ago! I thought that the piece ‘Aerith’s Theme’, by Nobuo Uematsu, was beautiful when I first heard it. However, I have been a bit cheeky and posted the orchestral version from the film as it’s just too lovely! I’m sure you’ll agree and you can lend your ears HERE.

Nearly there.. Sorry about all of is! In at NO.3 is ‘Bioshock’. This is definitely one of my favourite game franchises and, being an avid fan of music from the 20’s and 30’s,  I fell in love even more with ‘Bioshock 1 & 2’. The underwater city of Rapture, Big Daddies, Little Sisters and the 1920’s décor really brought a grand element to the series. I’m not shunning ‘Infinite’ though! That game was equally as excellent. The soundtracks were composed by Garry Schyman, but I’ve chosen ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ by Bobby Darin, which is featured in ‘Bioshock’. Hear HERE!

Almost first but not quite, it’s World of Warcraft in at NO.2, with music composed by Jason Hayes. I don’t think that there is one person I know who DOESN’T enjoy the wonderful world of Warcraft?! There is no other game in which you can become so immersed, so enchantingly lost in and make lifelong friends at the same time (true story). You’ll also find that some of the best costumes at comic and video game conventions are born from WoW. Here we have Enchanted Forest music from this masterpiece. HERE you go!

The finale… Finally! The NO.1 spot goes to American McGee’s ‘Alice: Madness Returns’; the sequel to McGee’s ‘Alice’, which was released in 2000. The music was composed by Marshall Crutcher and it has the best soundtrack EVER!! (According to me). I could play this game over and over for all eternity and I wouldn’t be bored. It’s dark, twisted, gothic and laced with Steampunk and a few marvellously bronzed cogs here and there! If you see anyone dressed up as Alice on the street then come over and say hello! Here is the ‘Main Theme’ for you to endlessly enjoy HERE.

Of course there are many, many more that I’d love to share with you, but I don’t want you all getting bored and I was told that I could only do ten anyway.. *Runs after everyone in sight with Gravity Hammer*.
