Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a date on Valentine’s day – but fear not, I’ve got your back with ten awesome otome game recommendations that will dissolve your loneliness in a flash. I mean, who needs a boyfriend when you can have six in one game?

This list is of paid otome games only – ones you can binge as much as you like! While there are some great free titles you can play on your mobile, a Valentine’s night in calls for something binge-able.

1. Ozmafia!!

I’m starting off the list with my all-time favourite otome game, Ozmafia!! by Otomate. This is the most romantic game on the list by far, with a huge roster of love interests to romance and plenty of fluff. But don’t be fooled – there’s more to this game than meets the eye. If you manage to complete every ending in this game, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic secret end that changes your perception of many of the game’s characters.

For the ultimate sweetness and a classically romantic ending, I recommend pursuing (my favourite) Caramia this Valentine’s day.

2. Amnesia: Memories

Amnesia by Idea Factory is a fascinating, romantic otome by Idea Factory where you play as an amnesiac girl trying to navigate her life and reclaim her memories. On the surface, it’s just a fun romance game. But as you unwind mysteries, you’ll find a darker tale of parallel worlds lies beneath the surface.

Available to play on PC, Mobile, and PS Vita.

3. Steam Prison

Steam Prison by HuneX has one of the best MCs on the list, who takes a very active role in the story (unlike a lot of otome MCs). Play as Cyrus Tistella (or rename her to your liking) and help her clear her name when she is wrongly accused of her parents’ murder. Unearth wider conspiracies as you pursue romance on the way.

Available to play on PC. Coming to Switch.

4. 7’sCarlet

Here’s another slightly spooky one for you, also by Otomate. Play as (yet another) amnesiac on her journey to the remote town of Okunezato to find her missing brother. Take caution, a dangerous revenant is on the hunt. The selection of love interests you can pursue range from sweet to slightly-psycho… so, regardless of your tastes there’s something for everyone here.

Available to play on PC and PS Vita.

5. Collar x Malice

This is more of a detective story than a romance, but honestly – the romance is still pretty good. The cherry on the sundae, if you will. If you enjoy otome games that aren’t 100% focused around the love interest and pack a bit more of a story punch, then this otome by Aksys is the perfect game for you.

6. Nameless

If you’re familiar with the phenomenon that is Mystic Messenger, you may or may not have heard of this game. It’s also by Cheritz, and features a story in which a lonely girl’s ball-jointed-doll collection comes to life. The story is great, and the characters are all-around solid as well. My only complaint is that I wasn’t able to romance the MC’s two gorgeous best friends.

7. Bad Apple Wars

If you’re a fan of the afterlife school trope (hello, Angel Beats!, one of the greatest anime of all time?), you’ll love this otome game. Join the Bad Apples and fight against the corrupt school and its bogus rules. The characters are extremely loveable, and Alma is forever engraved in my memory for his string-wielding action and non-sensical ab-shirt situation.

Available only for PS Vita.

8. Piofiore: Fated Memories

Yet another Mafia-themed otome game. This one also comes from Idea Factory, and features a town in the south of Italy called ‘Burlone’. The game takes place shortly after the First World War, when the MC finds herself targeted by one of these organisations, but why?

9. Code: Realize

The Code: Realize series is a steampunk-laden otome classic. If you want romance and entrigue, Aksys are here to deliver.

10. Bu$tafellows

What is it with otome and crime stories these days? Not that I’m complaining. Finally, a new developer makes the list: eXtend. The art and voice acting are gorgeous, and if that isn’t enough to convince you alone – this otome has reached acclaim in Japan for its thrilling story.

From October 27th, customers will no longer be able to use a credit or debit card, or PayPal, to buy digital content or top up their PlayStation Store wallet directly from their PS3 or Vita.

If you want to purchase something for your Vita or PS3 from the store, you will have to top-up from another device such as your PC, mobile device, PS4, or PS5. PlayStation Store gift cards, product vouchers, and subscription vouchers will still work on both consoles.

While it’s not the biggest inconvenience in the world, it does reintroduce anxiety about the future of SONY’s handheld device. The Vita has a small but dedicated user base that still enjoys taking their PS games on the go.

Personally, I can’t go without my Vita. It’s the one platform that has a vast selection of otome games. One of my favourites, Bad Apple Wars, is available exclusively on the Vita.

Although AKSYS are republishing many of their games on the Nintendo Switch, I still prefer the feel and display of the Vita. The vibrant OLED screen shows games the way they were meant to be viewed.

However, with the Switch OLED hitting the markets, the Vita will lose that advantage. Still, there’s many otome games and Japanese exclusives that will only be available on the Vita for the foreseeable future. Not to mention, it can be more cost-effective to snag a game on PS Vita instead of the Switch. There’s also the PS exclusives to play on Vita. I’ve been replaying the Jak and Daxter trilogy on my Vita, and it’s a lot of fun.

I see the Vita as a console that was ahead of its time at release. It pretty much flopped outside of Japan, while Nintendo kept a steel grip on the international handheld console market. If the Vita has been released in the last few years with a better marketing campaign, I reckon it would have been much more successful.

Sometimes, you just want to lie in bed with your handheld console with YouTube on autoplay in the background, instead of sitting up in your gaming chair in front of the TV. Call me lazy if you will, but I game to relax.

Clearly, I’m not the only one with an attachment to my Vita. In March, Sony announced plans to close the PlayStation Store on PS3, Vita, and PSP last summer, sparking massive backlash; The company retracted its statement. The PSP store did indeed close in July, but the PS3 and Vita stores remain active.

I wish the Vita many more years of gaming activity! Don’t get eclipsed by the Switch just yet.

Twitch have finally released an app on the PS Vita which will allow the players to stream straight from the handheld. Which is great news for people who want to watch other people eat while there on the move!

The app has been set up so you can watch your favourite streams live and recorded streams.

World Trigger: Borderless Mission is based on the anime series and set to release in September

Based on the anime series, Bandai Namco is working on a game version called World Trigger: Borderless Mission. The game has 80 mission in which players can enjoy solo or in a group with up to 8 players via ad-hoc multiplayer. This also includes up to 23 characters to choose from, with full voice acting.

Borderless Mission has a full story too see and up to 90 triggers (support, battle, and option) to customize the characters with. The game will be made available for the PS Vita on 17th September 2015, and pre-orders will include a code to enable a PS Vita theme and items for the Smartphone game, World Trigger: Smash Borders.

Project Scissors: NightCry

‘Clock Tower’ creator teams up with director of ‘The Grudge’ to create a brand spanking new horror game!

A merging of two great minds: Hifumi Kono, who is the creator of the cult-classic horror game series ‘Clock Tower’, has teamed up with Takashi Shimizu, the director of ‘The Grudge’, to launch a Kickstarter for their horror game ‘Project Scissors: NightCry’. 

This new venture has a crowd funding goal of $300,000  and is being developed by the Japanese studio, Nude Maker, whose staff have worked on the Silent Hill, Halo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania series. The game was originally planned to launch for iOS, Android, Vita and the Kickstarter will bring the game to PC. There is also a possibility of the game coming to other platforms as well.

A live action teaser, directed by Shimizu, was revealed earlier this month, and the game was announced earlier last year.

Darkest Dungeon

A brand new and wonderfully gothic role-playing game

Now with THIS.. I am most definitely intrigued! Darkest Dungeon comes to you from Red Hook Studios and will be available to play on the PS4, PS Vita, Mac OS X, Linux and Microsoft Windows from 3rd February 2015, on Steam Early Access.

Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic rogue-like turn-based RPG about the psychological stresses of adventuring. Recruit, train, and lead a team of flawed heroes against unimaginable horrors, stress, famine, disease, and the ever-encroaching dark. You will also be uncovering strange mysteries, and pit the heroes against an array of fearsome monsters with an innovative strategic turn-based combat system.

“We plan to be in Early Access for approximately six months, which we will use to add more dungeons, more character classes, and many new features to continue adding to the game. Our intent is to release the full version of the game in the 2nd half of 2015.”, the developers have said previously. “For the full release, we are planning to add more dungeon environments (one of which is the Darkest Dungeon), more character classes, story mode integration, additional monsters, items, quirks, narration, and dialogue. We also have reserved some time to add other new features and make changes based upon player feedback!”

The game is already sounding and looking fantastic! Here are a few more nuggets which you can expect from Darkest Dungeon:

• The Affliction System – battle not only monsters, but stress! Contend with paranoia, masochism, fear, irrationality, and a host of gameplay-meaningful quirks!
• Striking hand-drawn gothic crowquill art style
• Innovative turn-based combat pits you against a host of diabolical monsters
• Ten (and counting!) playable hero classes, including Plague Doctor, Hellion, and even the Leper!
• Camp to heal wounds or deliver inspiring speeches.
• Rest your weary, shell-shocked characters in town at the Tavern or the Abbey to keep their stress in check.
• Classic CRPG and roguelike features, including meaningful permadeath, procedural dungeons, and incredible replay.
