The highly anticipated Spinoff of popular multiplayer FPS Rainbow 6 Sige, Rainbow 6 extraction, is going to be put onto the console and PC versions of XBox Game Pass, as well as through Xbox cloud gaming.

Rainbow 6 extraction was originally revealed back at e3 2019 under the subtitle of Quarantine (which was later changed to Extraction due to the events of 2020 and 2021, the came is a co-op PvE experience that leverages Rainbow 6’s tactical gameplay against a new threat of enemies. This time, rather than players, your enemy is the alien Parasite, The “Arecæans”.

Teams Will travel through increasingly difficult Zones in the pursuit of loot and information in the fight against these parasites.

It has also been confirmed today that rainbow 6 siege will also be hitting Xbox Game Pass on the 20th of january for PC. Ubisoft also Confirmed that its Ubisoft+ subscription service would come to Xbox consoles soon.

Rainbow Six Abstraction set to release January 20th!

Ubisoft (or rather iBhard) has announced in July that upcoming title Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction would be delayed from September release to sometime in January. Now, Ubisoft has announced January 20th as the official release date.

Ubisoft has also reportedly reduced the price of the standard version to $40 (around £30) and the Deluxe Edition to $50 (£37.33), which is simultaneously pleasing and disturbing to me because those are the usual standard prices for most new games! Like… Honey boo boo… Sweetie. Dearest. Toots… We NEED to talk about pricing!

Every copy of the game will also come with 2 Buddy Pass tokens, letting you invite friends without the game to play with you for a 14-day free trial period. Buddy Pass users won’t have access to Assignments, the ranked Maelstrom Protocol mode or the in-game store.

Other handy-dandy features and tidbits on Rainbow Six Extraction will also include:

• Cross-play.
• Cross-progression and cross-save support (lets players team up with friends across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Amazon Luna, Google Stadia, PC and Ubisoft+).
• The game was originally going to be ‘Rainbow Six Quarantine’, but I’m assuming that wouldn’t have sold as well to certain Karen-adjacent circles getting triggered by the mention of the Q-word!

The Gameplay:

Rainbow Six Extraction will be a first-person shooter based on the Outbreak mode from Rainbow Six Siege, seeing players fight off alien hordes and optionally take on the role of Siege Operator. The heavily delayed followup/spin off of rainbow six: Siege may finally have a release date, or so a recent leak would suggest.

Rainbow Six Extraction was first announced in 2019, but was then delayed due to Covid 19 in 2020, before being delayed Again to January 2022 a few months back. Before now that was all we new: the game was intended to release in January 2022, but no definitive release date, just the month. That may just have changed

What is “Rainbow 6: Extraction”

“Rainbow six Q̶u̶a̶r̶e̶n̶t̶i̶n̶e̶ P̶a̶r̶a̶s̶i̶t̶e̶ Extraction” is a spin off of the popular Tactical FPS game “Rainbow 6: Siege”, but is more specifically a spinoff of the 2018 limited time mode “Outbreak” in which Players faced off against aliens in New Mexico.

In Extraction, a team of 3 players will be tasked with “Infiltrating” Alien infested locations and making their way through them. Along the way they will need to complete side objectives, from recovering lost team mates to killing key targets or collecting samples.

The Alien Threat you will face down are the “Archeans”, Parasitic lifeforms that spread a goo-like substance called the sprawl. While walking on sprawl, Players will be slower while Aliens will be buffed. Alongside the standard Alien threats there are numerous specialised variants of aliens that do different things.

Despite all this sounding… Kinda weird for a spinoff of a formerly very realistic/Realism adjacent Series like Rainbow 6, it should be noted that Extraction is set on a timeline split that originates from the outbreak event. That, and this isn’t even the weirdest Spinoff Rainbow six has had, even recently. Lets not forget that Very Recently 4 Rainbow ops were blasted into an alternate universe of anime catgirls. Yes, Really.

So when is the game coming out?

Again, as of now, Ubisoft’s official word on the release date of rainbow 6 Extraction is “January”. But thanks to a blogpost on ubisoft’s official website.According to a post on Ubisofts website, the Release date is January 20th, 2022. This has yet to be confirmed by Ubisoft themselves and while certain Publications have reached out from comment, nothing has come through yet.

The Delay was originally announced alongside a delay for Riders republic, which has yet to get any sort of word on when it is going to be released.

And with it arrives some significant changes…

We are halfway through Operation Crystal Guard, and players have been dealing with some bugs and glitches here and there that needed fixing; Ubisoft has come to exterminate these issues and includes some general game improvements.

Full patch details:

The new Rainbow Six Siege Y6S3.2 patch brings Visual Improvements to the scoreboard with reduced overall size and improved readability. There are some changes to the performance metrics as well. PC users can now display real-time performance metrics in the HUD, such as FPS, latency, and NVIDIA-related metrics. This feature can be turned On in the Options menu, and players can choose between Minimal and Advanced Metrics.

In terms of bugs, gameplay-related fixes include when one player downs a teammate and another eliminates the teammate, the player who downed them will be removed from the match. Additionally, a muffled sound could be heard on some automatic weapons; this has also been fixed.

Level design fixes include getting stuck between the barrels and garbage bags at EXT Teacups on Theme Park. Multiple issues with planting or picking up the defuser in specific areas on various maps. Rappel exploit allowing players to reach a location that should be inaccessible on the new Coastline map. Various LOD issues on Yacht and Tower maps have also been fixed.

Fixes involving operators include Game crashes when Mira’s Black Mirror is ejected while an active Cluster Charge is attached. Pulse’s Cardiac Sensor appearing to be stuck on the “Connecting…” screen when a player views Pulse in Support Mode. Animation being missing when a player tries to exit rappel with Osa’s Talon-8 Shield equipped. Players being able to leave rappel with Osa’s Talon-8 Shield equipped. Lastly, there are also some other bug fixes with the UI, all of which can be found here.

Alongside the new operator, there are a host of significant changes being made…

Rainbow Six Siege’s upcoming new season, Crystal Guard, is set for a September launch. It brings with it some quality of life changes to game mechanics, maps, and the new operator, Osa, who is also the first transgender operator added to the game.

Osa has been gifted a transport Talon-8 shield that can be either carried or deployed on the floor or in windows and doorways. She also has a little robot toy in her teaser trailer, but it does not look like this will be utilised in her kit.

As seen in the gameplay trailer below, a gap is left after placing the shield in doorways or windows, so if used carelessly, the opposing team could peek through it and punish you. The trailer also highlights that the shield is bulletproof, although it can be broken through melees.

Interestingly, Osa is an attacker. I can imagine her utility is handy in post-plant situations to block an entry point whilst getting information on the other side. Similarly, an Osa player could rappel on a window after placing her shield and use the gaps to lay down cover fire. Alternatively, Osa can simply place her shield to create cover where there is none, opening up a safer line of sight and holding possibilities for her teammates.

Ubisoft has a habit of introducing operators who shift the meta entirely, adding a whole new dynamic to the game. This is what keeps Rainbow Six Siege fresh and is part of the reason why the game is still so popular in year six.

The developers have also released some background info on Osa in a letter from one Siege character to another. It says: “The device she’s bringing is sure to play on lines of fire. A clear shield with mechanical claws that digs itself into surfaces and frames? Its defensive capabilities designed for offensive missions might make Mira jealous that she didn’t think of that first.”

The Crystal Guard update also includes reworks of three maps; Bank, Coastline, and Clubhouse. All three maps have received technical overhauls to match modern standards, and Bank has received an art overhaul. The new update now allows players to mix and match elite headgear and uniforms with any other headgear and uniforms, as long as it’s for the same operator. The update also brings some changes to game mechanics and operators. For example, IQ is being reworked so she can now mark enemy utility. Additionally, the way flash bangs operate is also being tweaked. These changes are only a few among many, to see all the changes in detail, watch the above video.

Ubisoft confirms their latest update will include the game’s first transgender operator

Inclusivity is something more and more tv shows and films are striving towards, but what about games? Well, Rainbow Six Siege has just given us the answer with the game’s first transgender operator to be featured in this week’s update.

Osa, the newest attacker to be added to the roster, comes with Content 3 and the Crystal Guard update for Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 Season 3 and it has now been confirmed by Ubisoft of her transition when it previously hadn’t been. This is part of Ubisoft’s initiative to add more inclusive and playable characters.

Who is the first transgender operator?

Anja “Osa” Jankovic is described to be a fierce competitor as well as an obsessive and passionate person. She’s a two-health, two-speed, two-difficulty character and has tactical robotic shields that she can use for protection, as well as the ability to be deployed from windows and doorways- a helpful skill for both herself and her teammates.

Osa’s bio card briefly touches upon her transition but GameSpot reached out to Ubisoft for confirmation. The company confirmed Osa is transgender and how the development team went to great lengths to create this character by hiring a group of trans consultants for the game. It was also confirmed Osa was written by a queer individual and is voiced by Nicole Maines, a trans actress, to make the character feel even more authentic.

This isn’t the first time for Rainbow Six Siege to feature inclusivity amongst its playable roster as Flores, Osa’s co-operator in Year 6, was already announced to be an openly gay character. What’s more, both Osa and Flores were planned early on in Ubisoft’s initiative so there could be a lot more inclusive characters to be added later into the game.

Rainbow Six Siege Year 6 Season 3 update goes live today and this kind of inclusivity to be featured in such a popular game will hopefully have a big, positive impact on the trans community in gaming.

The new Rainbow Six Siege season kicks off at the end of the month, named Operator Crystal Guard, and with it comes an all-new operator. The developers have also released a little bit of background info on Osa in a letter from one Siege character to another. It says: “The device she’s bringing is sure to play on lines of fire. Mira is a defence operator who can make little windows in reinforced walls. Those can only be destroyed from Mira’s side, so it is possible Osa’s shield will be similar.

Fortunately, we don’t have to wait too long to find out. The full reveal for Osa, and the Crystal Guard update is set for Monday the 16th of August at 3pm BST over on Twitch.

We still have a while to wait for Rainbow Six Extraction, but a new Containment Event has been added to Rainbow Six Seige

Ubisoft is dropping a new event, titled Containment event, for Rainbow Six Seige today that ties in their upcoming instalment to the franchise, Rainbow Six Extraction. It introduces a new PvP mode and sees REACT agents battling against Proteans, and uses a revamped Consulate map.

Containment Event

In the event, Proteans, an Archaean form that can mimic Operators (but only fight with melee attacks), are unable to wield weapons, however, are able to move fairly quickly, have more health and can use special abilities. Players can expect the REACT agents to have a regular loadout but with a reduced selection overall.

The new mode titled Nest Destruction requires the attackers to destroy the nest and reach the final objective to win, while the defenders must stop them. Alternatively, any team can eliminate the other and win so by doing this.

The new Containment event offers a range of up to 33 cosmetic items, including uniforms, weapon skins and headgear, for operators IQ, Ace, Blackbeard, Amaru, Zero, Aruni, Jager, Kaid, Mira, and Warden. They can be purchased from the shop for 1680 R6 credits or in Containment packs that run for 300 R6 credits or 12,500 Renown.

The Containment event is available from today until August 24, meanwhile, Rainbow Six Extraction is expected to release January 2022.
