Tate McRae and Allen Stone will be hosting Microsoft’s Windows 11 launch event, Elevenation, starting today at 8pm Eastern Time or tomorrow at 1am in UK time (you win some, you lose some). The event promises to be a ‘first of it’s kind’ streaming event and ‘6D musical experience celebrating the release of Windows 11’… I’m sorry, 6D? There are 6 dimensions? We have those? 4D is basically what we have already, but with quirky air and vibration seating mechanics like how you get in Lego Land or Thorpe Park mini cinemas showing The Wild Racing Adventures of Moggledy-Goggledy on a loop all day!

The event will also include multiple cameras and angles, so there may be a handy-dandy movement feature where you can flip between them to get a better view of some things being displayed. The stream will also feature use of a free Windows NFT. As referenced via the event booking site, ‘Windows 11 NFT is a one-of-a-kind cryptographic token that lives in your digital wallet and unlocks valuable experiences and rewards’. No info yet about what kind of rewards will be involved, but my theory is it may function something similarly to Honey or apps where you type in what you want to buy and Bob’s your uncle, you end up with a laundry list of discount coupons on whatever you’re looking for.

While the event itself won’t be an in-person one (hasn’t had one since Daddy-Rona ruined everyone’s 2020), Microsoft was also giving away FREE ICE CREAM in New York City! New devices will also be launched today with Windows 11 preinstalled and Microsoft is planning for all Windows 10 products to receive the free upgrade by mid-2022.

Meet the Presenters:

Tate McRae is a Canadian singer-songwriter, mostly specializing in emotional pop songs, rising to recognition in 2017 when her song One Day went viral for a time. From what I’ve heard so far, she’s pretty talented, I especially like Dear Ex Best Friend. Not to get too sappy, but sometimes losing a good friend can be as bad or worse than a romantic breakup, so nice to see that acknowledged in musical form. For any fans of Billie Eilish, she and her brother Finneas also co-wrote Tate’s Tear Myself Apart, which also features some good choreography and cinematography that fits in with the music.

Allen Stone is an American singer, who largely focuses on Soul music with elements of classic RnB, which RnB’s me the right way because Dean Martin, James Brown and Nina Simone are among my favorite singers. Windows 11 is now available to download for free and is advertised as the ultimate experience for gamers.

After waiting many months since the announcement that we would be receiving a new Windows update, six years after Windows 10 was released, Windows 11 is now available to download from Microsoft.

How to Install Windows 11

There are three ways to download Windows 11 from the Microsoft website. It is advised that if you are upgrading from Windows 10 to wait for your device to notify you when it is ready, however, these are three ways you can download the update safely if you cannot wait.

The first option is via a Windows 11 installation assistant which is the best option for installing it on the device you are currently using. The second option is via a bootable DVD or USB drive for anyone that is performing a clean install of Windows 11 on a used or new PC. The third option is via an ISO file which is for anyone that wants to create a bootable installation media type or use a virtual machine to install Windows 11.

Windows 11 for Gaming

Windows 11 has been advertised as “the best Windows ever for gaming” and there are multiple reasons why that is becoming more and more believable with what the new update system is bringing to the table.

It was recently announced that third-party apps are going to be added to the Microsoft Store for Windows 11, a huge breakout for companies such as Amazon and Epic Games Store which will be able to display their storefronts in the store. It has also been confirmed Andriod apps will be added after the launch, meaning certain mobile games will be available for gamers to access from the Microsoft Store too.

Windows 11 has also been confirmed to include the Auto HDR and DirectStorage functionality which Xbox Series X/S users have had the pleasure of experiencing. Auto HDR essentially adds HDR image enhancements automatically to any game to allow for a wider range of brightness and colours. DirectStorage lets games load assets to the graphics card at extremely fast speeds without any load times or strains on the CPU.

This will be great for all the Xbox Game Pass subscribers after xCloud becomes available on Windows as their PCs will be able to operate the same functionalities their consoles also operate.

Windows 11 is almost here and it is looking very promising for gamers with this new update

It’s hard to believe that we are only less than a week away from receiving Windows 11 and we have now been informed that another big change will be happening and it is certainly shaping up to be a massive gamechanger.

Windows 11 has been advertised as “the best Windows ever for gaming” and it has certainly been keeping its promises. Microsoft announced that the Microsoft Store will finally be allowing third-party stores to its storefront for people to download and access there, and this is a huge opportunity for digital video game storefronts.

Third-Party Apps on the Microsoft Store

Third-party apps are rarely seen on Microsoft Store due to the clause Microsoft put in place that requires third-party app developers to share their revenue. Now, Microsoft is removing that clause and apps such as Discord and Zoom are going to be available to download straight from the Microsoft Store.

This also means that digital video game storefronts such as Epic Games Store and Amazon will be able to bring their storefronts to the Microsoft Store and make purchasing games much easier for everyone and have already signed up to be included. Windows 11 users will see these stores being added in the upcoming months and while Steam has yet to be included, there is a likely chance it will be.

Just like any other app, third-party storefront apps will have a product detail page — which can be found via search or by browsing — so that users can easily find and install it with the same confidence as any other app in the Microsoft Store on Windows. – Giorgio Sardo, General Manager of the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft also confirmed that it will be adding Android apps to the Microsoft Store later this year, making those more accessible to Windows 11 users too.

This is going to be a real benefit as downloading third-party apps from web browsers has always carried around an extra layer of risk for anyone. This change to the store will help improve the importance of safety and risk on the internet when having to download content and make it easier and safer for anyone that isn’t a tech wizard when it comes to computers.

Windows 11 arrives on October 5, yet some Windows Insiders are able to access the new operating system now.

Windows 10 gamer enthusiasts can relax now this feature has been confirmed to be available

Microsoft has confirmed DirectStorage will be made compatible with Windows 10 so developers can reach as many PC gamers as possible.

It was originally stated to only be available in Windows 11 and is considered to be one of the three big new PC gaming features coming to the software, but now it will be available to as many as possible, which is great for users that will not be upgrading.

What is DirectStorage?

DirectStorage is an application programming interface (API) that Microsoft debuted in Xbox Series X/S. It is able to bypass the processor to quickly load data into the graphics card that enables it to decrease load times and allow developers to create more impressive visuals.

This will be an impressive feature to use in open-world games such as Final Fantasy XIV and League of Legends. 

The API also provides GPU decompression so developers can compress assets like textures, models, and music to decrease the install size and improve performance and offers options for streaming assets into the game in real-time.

Another feature is DirectStorage can take advantage of the storage software stack inside Windows 11, which will further improve performance and users will be able to do so with Windows 10’s older storage stack too.

Microsoft is committed to ensuring that when game developers adopt a new API, they can reach as many gamers as possible. As such, games built against the DirectStorage SDK will be compatible with Windows 10, version 1909 and up; the same as the DirectX 12 Agility SDK. – Hassan Uraizee.

The wider compatibility of DirectStorage to PCs that have older storage software (such as HDDs) will mean more gamers will have access to this feature, but also it should also encourage developers and publishers to ensure DirectStorage to be considered for new and existing projects. The developers would only need to implement the feature once into the game too, as the SDK will be able to control what aspects of the DirectStorage are available to your device.

DirectStorage does require a PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive or PCIe 4.0 SSD, otherwise, games using the feature will still run off of a spinning hard drive and will not see any performance benefit.
