Gaming and filming rights to J.R.R Tolkien projects including The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are reportedly up for sale and the rumors suggest that Amazon is leading the race for both.

According to Variety, J.R.R owner Saul Zaentz Co. has hired ACF Investment Bank to orchestrate the sale of its Tolkien holdings. The holdings include; merchandising, live events and theme parks, reports suggest that the cost of the holdings are valued at $2 billion. The Saul Zaentz Co was set up by producer Saul Zaentz who died back in 2017. He was responsible for Oscar-winning films like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus and The English Patient.

As stated above, Amazon have an interest in obtaining the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit licenses, Amazon are also set to launch a new Lord of the Rings TV show in September. Currently, Amazon are leading the race to obtain the rights at this time.

It has been put forward that Amazon could have possibly spent over or at least £500 million pounds on the first eight episodes of the upcoming TV adaption; The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Interestingly enough, last April, Amazon Game Studios said it had cancelled a Lord of the Rings MMO it was co-developing with Athlon Games, a US subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Leyou Technologies. The cancellation of that project was due to a dispute between Amazon and Tencent  which acquired Leyou in December 2020.

The television adaptation of the beloved PlayStation exclusive series has revealed its first look

Naughty Dog Co-President, Neil Druckmann, who is the creative director and writer of the PlayStation Exclusive series The Last of Us, has shared an image of the set on “The Last of Us Day”.

When I first saw them on set in full costume, I was like: "Hooooooly shit! It's Joel & Ellie! 😭!"

Druckmann will be a director of HBO’s first series, which is sourced from an updated production list on the Directors Guild of Canada website from earlier this month. There will be five directors working on the series. Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin is listed as one of the directors and is co-writing and executive producing the show alongside Neil Druckmann.

The pilot episode is directed by Kantemir Balagov, who has uploaded a photo on Instagram expressing his gratitude for working on the series. The Last of Us adaptation is the first television series from PlayStation Productions, a studio formed by Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt its original game properties for film and TV.

In this series, Joel Miller is played by Pedro Pascal; he is known for his role as Javier Peña in the Netflix series Narcos. Ellie is played by Bella Ramsey, who is known for playing Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones. Another confirmed character and casting, who is not shown in the shared picture, is Joel’s daughter, Sarah. She is played by Nico Parker, the daughter of actress Thandie Newton, the starring actress of 2019’s Dumbo.

The production, which is set to wrap in June 2022, is expected to cover the events of The Last of Us (2013) and may include content based on The Last of Us Part 2 (2020). Filming is underway in Alberta, Canada, with its streets redesigned to look like the streets of Austin, Texas.

Brawlhalla is a free-to-play 2D fighting game by Blue Mammoth Games with over 50 playable characters, each with unique weapons and attacks. The game often has epic crossover events where others join the fight, including Kung-Fu Panda, Steven Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and… *checks notes* IT’S JOHN CENA!

Brawlhalla’s latest character additions are Maggie and Negan from AMC’s The Walking Dead, coming September 22nd this year! Last year saw the game add the likes of Daryl Dixon, Rick Grimes and everyone’s favourite katana-wielding bad-A-double-dollar-sign Michonne.

Every character in Brawlhalla can fight unarmed OR wield one of two different weapons at a time, so although we’re technically getting 2 new characters, let’s not mince words, it’s just like getting 4 from a gameplay perspective. The game functions like a sort of chibi version of Super Smash Bros, what with the optional combat modes that include items and knocking opponents out of the ring, but the polish and gameplay depth on display is surprisingly high and stands on it’s own as just another great fighting game along the likes of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.

Be sure to hurry though! The selection of free-to-play characters changes every so often, so wait too long and you may not get to play as the same character a month later vs today. But considering every character has a great design and peculiar combat quirk, it’s not a huge loss either way. Plus, you can test out the gameplay of all characters at any time during training mode, so you can give everyone a little free test run before buying.

and it looks… surprisingly good?

As we know, a feature film adaptation of Gearbox’s Borderland game series has been in production for a while. Well, we can tell you now, it has finally finished filming.

When Lionsgate’s adaptation was announced, fans felt a mix of excitement and nerves, as we always do with film adaptations of games. We know from the past that they rarely recreate the same magic as their video game counterpart. It will be tough to recreate the world of Pandora’s whacky brilliance. However, some of the details we’ve seen so far provoke some optimism.

For example, the cast is actually surprisingly impressive. It includes Cate Blanchett (Lilith), Jamie Lee Curtis (Dr Patricia Tannis) and the always hilarious duo of Kevin Hart (Roland) and Jack Black (Clap Trap). This cast, alongside the director-writer duo of Eli Roth and Chernobyl writer Craig Maxin, means we may actually have something to be excited about.

I’m particularly eager to see how Jack Black’s Claptrap translates to the big screen. I personally love that casting selection and have high hopes for Claptrap’s movie endeavours. Although we do not have excessive detail to go on for most of the characters, we at least know how Jack Black’s claptrap will appear on the screen (see below).

It appears that Claptrap will be maintaining the same look on the screen. On the other hand, the other characters have been kept in the shadows (quite literally, see below).

Despite their faces being kept in the dark, it seems our favourite characters will be maintaining a lot of the same appearances as in the games (at least outfit wise).

The film’s synopsis reads as follows “Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Arianna Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistent wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

The news of the filming coming to an end comes shortly after the new Borderland spinoff game ‘Tiny Tina’s Wonderland’ was revealed at E3, 2021. Borderlands fans have a lot to look forward to in the next two years.

In terms of a release date, due to filming having just finished, we predict the post-production processes will mean a 2022 release.

Hi all. Last time I wrote was last week, when I was meant to write daily… unfortunately I would run out of words very quickly, since some things pass without incident. And as such, without intrigue. So here we are, writing a weekly blog instead. Let us have a look at the last week, at Go2Games, as experienced by yours truly.

Monday, 14th of June
The week begun as most weeks do. We had a morning meeting, as one does at the start of the week, to talk about content and potentially rejigging the schedule. This has now happened, and starting next week, we will be adhering to it.

The first thing that we filmed is the third episode of our (so far) longest running show, Inside Streamers. The episode is out now on YouTube, and can be found here! In this episode we discussed some of the games we saw at E3, and how excited we are for Battlefield 2042 and Forza Horizon 5. Unfortunately Rookii was not with us again, but he promised to make his big return in the next episode. Should be good!

After that, we recapped E3 in our 60 second news segment, and filmed more On This Day segments, the latter being posted daily on our instagram page, found here.

Wednesday, 16th of June
I made my return to the store on Wednesday, to film some Game of the Week. This week the game is… hmmm, spoilers. But if you reaaally want to know, the game is a) available on our store, and b) found here.

After that, we filmed our pilot episode of a tier list series! Staying on topic of E3, we ranked the conferences that took place over the last week in a tier list. As I write this, the episode actually became available on our YouTube! Watch it now!

Lastly, we filmed our weekly episode of Gaming Shart. I can’t share much of this unfortunately, since none of the episodes have yet been released. I am hoping that the first one comes out tomorrow, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Friday, 18th of June
This brings us to today. Today we filmed a few extra “On This Day” segments, as with the new schedule, these will be filmed mostly on Fridays.

After this we filmed Out Of The Box, which is meant to be done on Wednesday, but unfortunately we didn’t have the product until today. No matter, we did our best. The product was actually quite cool. It is the Lumen Cube, a small light that packs a punch, and has a ton of cool and useful attachments. So, in conclusion…
