How I nearly tripled my Albedo’s damage output using the new artefact set and F2P weapon.

It hasn’t really been all that long since I posted my first build guide for Albedo, back when his rerun was initially announced. At that time, the Harbinger of Dawn was the go to weapon, and his artefacts were a mixed bag.

Now, with the new free to play weapon, the Cinnabar Spindle, and the new defence and geo damage boosting set, Husk of Opulent Dreams, Genshin Impact has given Albedo a complete overhaul.

First, let’s look at the damage comparison between the old and new Albedo.

Three weeks ago, my Albedo’s skill would hit for around 10k – with the assistance of Zhongli and Geo Resonance.

Look at my Albedo now:

Here, he hit for a maximum of 24k off-field damage with all the same buffs. This massive damage increase is all thanks to the new Free to Play event weapon and a brand new artefact set.

The Cinnabar Spindle

The latest event took us to the wilderness of Dragonspine, where we built snowmen, ran time trials, and uncovered a strange imposter. Most importantly, though, we got this great new weapon. We were also able to refine it to level five for free from event rewards, and benefited from an EXP bonus while leveling it up.

The passive, improved base attack, and defence substat should serve to give you a 10% damage increase from the Harbinger of Dawn (provided you aren’t completely reliant on it for crit rate and crit damage).

Though some have complained that this sword only works on Albedo, it’s a free weapon at the end of the day, and it makes Albedo very F2P friendly to build. This is in fact his Best in Slot 4 star, and can even out damage some 5 star swords too. Not to mention, you’ll no longer be chained to keeping Albedo’s health over 90%.

Artefacts

The Husk of Opulent Dreams set can provide up to 4 stacks of curiosity, each buffing your defence and geo damage by 6%. That’s a considerable total of 24% defence and geo damage. It’s very easy to maintain maximum stacks with Albedo, as you will gain a stack by being off-field every 3 seconds. The only way to lose stacks is by standing on field and doing no geo damage.

If you want to maintain Albedo as more of a support role, he is one of the characters who can best utilise the Tenacity of Millelith’s 4 piece set. This increases party members attack by 20% and shield strength by 30%. As Albedo cannot benefit from the attack bonus himself (because his skill scales with defence), I personally don’t recommend sacrificing Albedo’s damage for this buff. Attack can instead be boosted by another party member with a four piece Noblesse set, if needs be.

As for the stats on the artefacts, you’re going to follow a traditional DPS build. However, you’ll be substituting attack for defence. As you’re going to get plenty of defence from the set bonus and Cinnibar Spindle, you’re definitely going to want a crit rate or crit damage circlet. This will depend on how much crit rate you manage to scourge up in your sub stats, etc. The time piece should be defence, and the goblet should have a geo damage bonus. In your sub stats you should prioritise crit rate / crit damage, but defence rolls are not unwelcome either.

If you’re sticking with the Harbinger of Dawn, prioritise defence more. You could even consider using a defence circlet or goblet.

Following are the stats on my Albedo which allow him to hit for these sorts of numbers.

(Yes, we’re friendship level 10 besties, by the way.)

This is my Albedo with max curiosity stacks from the Opulent set. Again, this will not be hard to maintain. He previously had around 1,800 defence – so 2,458 is a huge improvement.

My crit rate isn’t most ideal, but I’m able to skimp on it by pairing him with the Geo traveller, who has an ER build. The Geo traveller provides a 10% crit rate buff with their elemental burst, which is pretty easy to maintain. I will at some point probably switch Albedo to a build with more crit rate and less crit damage, but for now I’m happy to pair him with the traveller or use him in my teams that capitalise on Cryo Resonance.

With the buff from the Opulent set, Albedo is able to enjoy a 92.2% Geo damage bonus. This should be the same for you, with a level 20 goblet and max curiosity stacks, plus the geo damage boost from his ascension stat.

Team compositions

Albedo slots comfortably into most team compositions as a sub DPS. He shines the most, however, in Geo compositions. This allows him to benefit from Geo resonance, which greatly buffs Geo damage.

Albedo will work especially well with characters that do AoE damage. The limitations on his skill procs apply to individual enemies, so essentially the more enemies you can attack at once, the more his skill can activate. This makes him pretty much godly with a character like Venti, whose burst continuously hits many enemies at once. He also works very well with the Geo traveller’s burst (when it actually lines up with enemies, that is). Another great candidate is Tartaglia, whose riptides can damage multiple enemies at once. Electro-charged comps also suit him in this way.

Congratulations to everyone who managed to snag an Albedo (or Eula). If you’re still pulling for him in this last week, I’m sending you all the best luck! While my Albedo’s build is still far from perfect, I hope I’ve demonstrated his huge potential with the new set and F2P sword.

The announcement that Genshin Impact 2.3 would run dual rerun banners was a huge surprise. From now on, we will get two limited character reruns at once. The four stars on each banner have now been revealed to be the same, so all that matters is which five star you want to choose.

Primogems are very scarce in Genshin Impact, so you need to choose how you spend them wisely.

This guide will advise you on which banner to pull on, given your current position in the game.

If you’re already set on skipping these banners and are saving for Arataki Itto, you need not read on. You’re in the same camp as me, actually! The rest of you: I know Albedo like the back of my hand, as he was the first 5 star I wished for, and I’ve done a fair bit of research on Eula. So don’t worry – I’m very well informed even if I’m giving these banners a skip.

Firstly, Bennett

If you’re a new player and you still don’t have Bennett, this banner is basically a must-pull. Bennett is the best support character in the game (and he might be the best character full stop). His elemental burst can supply your team with a huge attack boost, as well as healing them. Ideally, you want to unlock his first constellation too.

Bennett is my main DPS and my favourite character, and I never shy away from talking about how great he is. But I swear on my life, I’m not being biased here. Any seasoned Genshin player will tell you this, and you can see him take the SS spot in any tierlist.

If you do have Bennett, though, your main consideration is going to be Eula or Albedo.

Eula vs. Albedo

It is a little difficult to compare these two, as they serve such different purposes. But alas, most of us can only afford to get one 5 star at most, so compare them we must.

Eula is a DPS character who specialises in physical damage, and also delivers a huge hit with her burst. Albedo, on the other hand, is a sub DPS character who can deal a lot of off-field damage without taking time away from your main DPS, and he can also provide shields to give your team durability.

Your personal needs

Are you lacking a single, powerful DPS unit who can serve as a hypercarry? Then perhaps Eula is the character for you. You can use her, pretty much endlessly, without switching out, and deal a lot of universal physical damage.

However, Eula isn’t a super meta DPS compared to some of the other units. If you already have a couple of strong DPS characters such as Xiao, Hu Tao, Ayaka, or Ganyu, you might benefit more from a support-oriented 5 star like Albedo.

One of Eula’s weaknesses is split damage. Her burst hits really hard and makes up a good chunk of her overall damage, but because it’s cryo damage you can’t really utilise her full damage potential. Ayaka, in comparison, attacks and bursts in cryo damage, so she suffers less of a damage loss.

Eula, being a hyper carry, isn’t so end-game friendly either. When you get to endgame and have a lot of units built, quick swap teams are the way to go.

However, if you haven’t reached that point yet, Eula can carry you there. I’d say her banner is a lot more beginner friendly.

Albedo, on the other hand, is someone you’ll be adding to your team, rather than building a team around. He has excellent usage statistics in the spiral abyss among players who have him, and I’ve written a full guide on how to build him and how he works.

Albedo is only set to get stronger in the upcoming update. A free to play sword that is perfect for his playstyle is headed our way, as well as a new artefact set. Albedo is fairly low-investment to build and works with a three star sword as well, compared to Eula who takes quite a bit of investment. This makes him more ideal for endgame players who are concerned with resin efficiency.

Geo and its future…

To be honest, Albedo is stuck with the Geo element, which isn’t in a great place in the game’s meta. It’s basically the ‘tank’ element, and typically focused on survivability. But in Genshin Impact, huge damage is needed to clear the spiral abyss.

However, the future of Geo could be bright. The introduction of Gorou and his skill that stacks buffs with the number of geo characters in the party suggests that the game is steering us towards building mono-geo teams. It’s true that, already, geo characters only really synergise with each other, thanks to the element’s massive resonance buff.

Personally, it’s my favourite element. I just think it’s exciting to see big raw damage numbers, and I enjoy being able to face-tank without worrying about dodging. I can’t wait to see how Albedo and Zhongli will synergise with new characters Itto and Gorou. But, that doesn’t change the fact that geo isn’t in the meta right now, so if you only care about doing big damage, maybe the element itself isn’t for you.

The verdict…

While Eula is a more universal and beginner-friendly character, Albedo is a more niche support that’s perfect for endgame players trying to maximise their damage and efficiency, or wanting to explore a mono-geo team.

My personal recommendation would be Albedo, as stronger DPS character reruns are likely on the way in 2.4. Albedo fills a more niche role and is therefore less likely to be powercrept, whereas Eula is going to be outdone by stronger DPS characters.

However, it depends on the state of your account. If you need a strong and reliable hypercarry to plow through the abyss with, Eula could be the character for you.

Most importantly, choose the character you like!

At the end of the day, your own enjoyment is more important than the meta. If you really love one of these character’s designs or playstyles, and they’re going to make your gaming experience more enjoyable, simply go for that! I originally wanted Albedo because he’s pretty. He just also turned out to be super useful for me down the line as well.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Knights of Favonius’ Chief Alchemist.

Way back in the day, not long after I got into MiHoYo’s hit game, Genshin Impact, a shiny new 5-star named Albedo hit the scene. I was infatuated. I saved up as many primogems as I could, but alas… I pulled Qiqi. I may have cried, I am not certain. But what I did do for sure was swipe that plastic so I could get enough primogems to pull Genshin’s first proper ~pretty boy~. And so began my spiral into gacha hell.

I was among a minority, however. Albedo’s banner suffered some lacklustre profits. It wasn’t his fault, no. The alchemist had the misfortune of being sandwiched between Zhongli and Ganyu. Zhongli, first of all, had been a colossal disappointment. People thought the geo lord would bring the pain, but actually, he served a more defensive role. This was before the buffs to him and the geo element (after which Zhongli basically made you invincible as hell).

People weren’t exactly eager to pull for another geo 5-star after that debacle. And then there was Ganyu to follow, a very highly anticipated DPS character.

Of course, I didn’t give a hoot about all that nonsense. I just wanted Albedo because pretty.

But, oh, was I lucky to be an Albedo wanter at the time – because Albedo made them ALL regret skipping his banner.

Albedo is one of, if not THE best, sub-DPS in the game. And, on top of that, he takes away 0 field time from your DPS. You basically just whack his flower on the field, and bam. He can do 10k-ish damage every few moments while he’s not even there. Plus, he gives a home to the defence artefacts you don’t want, turning them into considerable damage with little investment. His burst does okay damage, nothing special (thanks to his low base attack), but it does grant a nifty Elemental Mastery boost that’s much easier to manage than stacking like 600 EM on Sucrose.

Have I convinced you to pull for him in his upcoming rerun? If so, read on for more details and a handy build guide, by yours truly.

If not, here’s some gameplay demonstrating how his skill works – because clearly, you don’t understand how useful he is!!!

Here, Albedo’s skill is triggered by Zhongli’s pillar, which also resonates with Albedo’s flower to allow for a larger area where damage can occur. Albedo’s skill hits for 9 and then 10k while he is off the field. Here, he is also benefitting from Geo resonance and Zhongli’s resistance shred. Without those, I find he usually hits around 8k. I’ve also prioritised consistency with an 80% crit rate and 140% crit dmg, but other players might take his crit dmg higher. This is a pretty low investment level 80 Albedo, using a 3-star weapon. I’ll go more into why that is later!

It was announced a while back that Genshin Impact 2.3 would feature two new geo characters: Arataki Itto and Gorou. Many speculated that 2.3 would be all about geo, and we’d finally get that long-awaited Albedo rerun (for you silly geese that skipped him!). The announcement program hasn’t aired just yet, but the inclusion of Albedo and his VA make it… pretty obvious. Even Albedo’s English VA commented on it with some lighthearted sarcasm.

i wonder what they are gonna announce https://t.co/hHteVKQKnJ

— Khoi Dao (@khoidaooo) November 10, 2021

So yeah – Albedo is coming in 2.3, which should launch November 24th. But don’t fret, I’m here to prepare you!

Weapon

Albedo is probably the most accessible 5 star to build for several reasons. Since his base attack is irrelevant to his skill (it scales from his defence), he is one of the few characters who can fully utilise a 3-star weapon without any problem. Albedo players’ usual weapon of choice is the Harbinger of Dawn.

Yeah, it has a super low base attack that isn’t going to do much for your burst. BUT – it packs a massive 42.7% crit dmg at level 80 – that’s much more than the Blackcliff Longsword. Albedo is one of the only characters who can easily maintain the passive and get a tidy 24% bonus crit rate, too. You’ll definitely want to R5 this weapon, so hopefully, you haven’t cannibalised all the ones you got from the gacha system. Your HP shouldn’t be dropping below 90%, as you’ll just quickly swap Albedo in to put down his flower and swap him out again. To be on the safe side, you can make sure you have a shield up when you do this. You should get plenty from his crystalise reactions. Also, yes – 3-star weapons require less upgrade material than 4 star and 5-star ones, so it’s super quick to build.

If you are worried about losing that passive or want to use him more actively, the Black Sword from the Battle Pass works fine. Another good option would be the Festering Desire if you were around when it was available via Albedo’s event. This is also a good option if you want to take him to the abyss at the moment because the corrosion effect is messing up the passive of the Harbinger of Dawn. The other advantage of this is that… boy can take a HIT! Don’t forget that not only does his damage scale with his defence, but he’ll be super-ultra-durable on the battlefield.

Artefacts

When it comes to Albedo’s artefacts, defence is the name of the game. He’s highly flexible regarding set, and I’m currently running a half-broken set on mine. You could use 4 piece noblesse to give your team an attack boost with his burst, or 2 piece noblesse and 2 piece Archaic Petra for a geo damage bonus. Any other flexible 2 piece bonuses, such as the energy recharge bonus, will do either. There isn’t a defence boosting set available in the 5-star range right now, so anything’s game, honestly.

For his timepiece, defence is a must. As for his circlet, you’ll probably want crit rate (or crit damage, if you’re not using harbinger and have enough crit rate elsewhere), but defence can work here as well. Lastly, you’ll want a Geo DMG bonus goblet – but again, you can make defence work too. Like I said, he’s super flexible. Defence will be your first priority if you’re using the conventional set-up with crit circlet, etc. Otherwise, you can prioritise defence, then crit rate and dmg. If you really want the EM boost from his burst, you can try to fit energy recharge substats in there too, but I doubt it’ll be necessary.

Here, I’ve managed to find a crit rate circlet with a nice chunk of defence. By utilising my artefacts that rolled into defence (which is usually a bummer for your DPS characters), I could stack up to 1,800 defence. Pretty nice! I’ve seen players stacking way more defence and crit rate/dmg on him, but it really depends on how much resin you’re ready to sink into his build.

Team compositions

Any.

Seriously. He easily slots into almost any comp as a sub DPS.

That aside, he especially stands out when he’s partied with other geo characters. This allows them to both capitalise on geo resonance. He’s also going to perform best with characters that can do a lot of AoE dmg. The wider the spread of the damage, the more Albedo’s skill can proc. A very F2P friendly duo is him + DPS Noelle. Her skill gives her a lot of AoE. He should also work well with Itto.

Characters from other elements that work well with him are, again, characters with good AoE. One notable character would be Xiao. Albedo’s flower has a huuuuuge radius, so even Xiao won’t knock the enemies out of it too often. Apparently, Itto will also have great synergy with Albedo. Pretty unsurprising, given their side-by-side banners.

Now you have all the knowledge you require to get the most dmg out of this <del>gorgeous, beautiful, stunning</del> alchemist.
