The Epic Games Store has launched its ‘Mega Sale‘ with a massive discount on more than 1,600 games!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Promotion will run for the next 4 weeks up until June 16th.

Epic has announced that over 1,600 games and add-ons with discounts of up to 75%. Alongside this gigantic sale on their online store, Epic have also delivered a free coupon to all Epic Games Store accounts worth 25% off purchases priced at, or combining to, £11.99. While this Mega Sale is happening, for the next four weeks gamers will be able to get their hands on free games with Epic Games Store’s “four weeks of blockbuster free tentpole games” starting with very popular title Borderlands 3, now available until May 26th, In 2021, the Epic giveaways began with NBA 2K21 but Epic has yet announce future free titles.

Epic Games Store sales are bound to continue in 2022 with the summer sale following in July and because of this, the storefront has safely secured a spot in the gaming landscape, providing some much-needed competition to Valve and Steam.

Not long after the announcement of Assassin’s Creed getting a crossover on the way between Odyssey and Valhalla (which I contend is only the SECOND best game with ‘VA-11 Hall A’ in the name), iBhard (AKA Ubisoft) have announced Odyssey will be free to players for a limited time only!

The offer applies to Xbox One, PS4, PC and Google Stadia, and runs from December 16th, 2:30 PM to December 21st, 12:30 AM local time. You can pre-load the game before it goes officially live.

So, for any potential non-gamers reading these (shocking concept to grasp, I know), why may you want to get stuck in to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey? Let’s unpack that!

A Must-Have for Edutainment Explordinaires! The Assassin’s Creed games are famous for mashing up bits and pieces of historical fiction with their stories, while also having a surprising amount of educational value. Players often collect various artifacts with descriptions accurate to real-world versions of them. And if your hand-eye coordination isn’t the best out there, Assassin’s Creed Origins (psst! which we sell alongside Valhalla and others!) has a virtual museum mode that takes out all the in-game dangers and gives you a tour guide of all the true-to-life bits and bobs in the game.

Choose Your Story: Odyssey sees you choose one of two characters to play as, Alexios or Kassandra. After that, you can make different choices at in-game story moments to change the effects of what happens, how it happens and all that butterfly effect mumbo-jumbo from Until Dawn!

It’s no Undertale or Persona 5 in the story department, but at least it’s pretty-looking and has decent gameplay. Very much a ‘talk less, smile more‘ kinda game at the best of times. Ain’t that right Hamilton?

COMRADE PLOT TWIST!? Now I’m going to bite the hand that feeds me by going into potential reasons the game may NOT be for you!

For starters, Ubisoft has not done its best in workplace relations, to put it mildly. A series of reports came out last year detailing Ubisoft’s toxic workplace conditions, including a series of sexual assault and harassment allegations. As a result, many creatives from Ubisoft have left the company after completion of different projects, including Dan Hay, of Far Cry fame. I bring this up because Jim-Stephanie Sterling (whom’st we stan) brought up that some people may not want to purchase certain games knowing they were made in unethical conditions, so that’s a path of logic my leftist-ass can get behind.

And back to the game itself, it’s pretty standard fare for most AAA titles. Based on my limited experience with the game (at a convention for Retro games of all places, which you can read about here), it’s nice… Not thrilling, but nice (a cheeky reference for all 2 of people I know who’ve seen History of The World). If you want a better sword-and-sandal style action experience, you may have a better time with Greak or Blasphemous, which, shocking coincidence, we also happen to have!

The post Assassin’s Creed Odyssey FREE TO PLAY This December! first appeared on Get2Gaming.

With a storyline that spans centuries, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise frequently sees some of its protagonists cross paths with one another. For example, protagonist Shay Cormac met Adéwalé from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Haytham Kenway from Assassin’s Creed III in Assassin’s Creed Rogue. However, those characters were all active during similar periods.  Ubisoft is now taking a different approach though.

Assassin’s Creed Timelines Crossover

The publisher is adding new missions to Odyssey and Valhalla as part of the franchise’s first crossover event, which will pit characters Kassandra and Eivor against one other. What does an ancient Greek have to do with England in the ninth century? We don’t know, but the Animus is probably involved, and the event could be a preview of what to anticipate from the franchise’s rumoured online arrival.

“Those Who Are Treasured,” the first tale, will be set in Odyssey, while “A Fated Encounter,” the second, will be set in Valhalla. Both will be accessible on December 14th, when the 1.4.1 and 1.5.6 title updates for their respective titles go live. You can upgrade your character’s equipment by finishing the stories.

Ubisoft also revealed Dawn of Ragnarök, the newest DLC for Valhalla, on Monday. The expansion is being promoted as the publisher’s most ambitious Assassin’s Creed dlc yet. It will add about 35 hours of playtime to the game, allowing players to learn more about Eivor’s connection to Odin. The DLC will be released on March 10th, 2022, according to Ubisoft.

A fan of the series has compiled a useful timeline depicting the different eras that the Assassin’s Creed series covers

Ubisoft’s first entry in the Assassin’s Creed series was released in 2007, and was set during the Third Crusade. Since then with twelve entries in the game; different moments in history and locations have been covered. With its non-linear settings, it can be difficult to keep track of where and when things were.

Reddit user Chapere has created a timeline which looks at the 12 main games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. In the order of when they take place, the games are Odyssey, Origins, Valhalla, the first Assassin’s Creed, the three games of the Ezio Trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Assassin’s Creed 3, Unity, and Syndicate. What is important to make note of is that Assassin’s Creed: Liberation, the Chronicles trilogy, and all DLC are not depicted on this timeline.

The earliest recorded date in the series is just before 400 BC with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, set in Ancient Greece. The latest date in the series is set in the 17th century with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, set in Victorian London.

A pattern to make note of is that Assassin’s Creed titles get more tightly packed the closer they get to the present day. Five out of twelve games in the series, take place after 1700. Meanwhile, the three most recently released games are the most spread out and earliest in the timeline. For example, the empty space of time portrayed in between Origins and Valhalla is the largest on the timeline, and is larger than the gap between Valhalla and the original Assassin’s Creed.

The games chronologically tell different parts of what is the same story until after the release of Assassin’s Creed Rogue, with the exceptions of Black Flag and Rogue. However, in regards to the overarching narrative after Assassin’s Creed Rogue, that chronological approach has been abandoned.

This could lead to Ubisoft utilizing their creative liberties with regards to historic settings, with a greater amount of games in earlier periods existing within future entries. Comments on the Reddit post above suggest exploring locations and settings such as during the Chinese Dynasty, Ancient Rome, or Spain during the Moorish Invasion. It would be interesting to see Ubisoft’s takes on different cultures the further back they go into history.

Ubisoft is responsible for some of the largest franchises in video gaming. From Far Cry and Watch Dogs, Rayman and Tom Clancy’s series, to even Just Dance. They are formidable video game developers and have built their company and expanded their studios to places like Montreal and Quebec like most do. Yet their methods have been cross-examined ever since allegations were brought up against several higher-ups regarding sexual misconduct last summer.

With the latest reports of a new, large online platform for the Assassin’s Creed franchise breaking yesterday also came an update with how Ubisoft handled those allegations and the reactions of those involved.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity: What to Expect

Reports came in yesterday from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that Ubisoft is working on a massive online Assassin’s Creed game codenamed “Assassin’s Creed Infinity”. 

Unlike previous Assassin’s Creed games set in specific historical periods, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be set in multiple periods and could expand even more over time as it continues to grow through the months and years following its release.

Since Bloomberg’s report, Ubisoft has confirmed the game’s existence in a blog post, yet has given no other information other than the fact it will be a joint collaboration between Ubisoft Montreal, the team behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and Ubisoft Quebec, the team behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. However, a spokesperson at Ubisoft said they are aiming to exceed the expectations of fans who have been asking for a more cohesive approach to the franchise.

Rather than continuing to pass the baton from game to game, we profoundly believe this is an opportunity for one of Ubisoft’s most beloved franchises to evolve in a more integrated and collaborative manner that’s less centred on studios and more focused on talent and leadership, no matter where they are within Ubisoft… Most importantly, Assassin’s Creed has always been developed by multicultural teams with various backgrounds and perspectives that have influenced the depiction of its characters, locations, and cultures. – Ubisoft.

Jason Schreier goes onto report that Assassin’s Creed Infinity won’t be expecting a release date for another few years and ends his statement by mentioning the teams are facing internal issues as several men who were accused of sexual abuse last year are reportedly still in the project.

Several men accused of abuse remain in lead roles after this reorg, which led to complaints on the internal forums. A Ubisoft spokeswoman says they “had their case rigorously reviewed by a third party and were either exonerated or underwent appropriate disciplinary actions”

Ubisoft’s Actions Towards Allegations

As mentioned previously, the summer of 2020 brought allegations up against Ubisoft and resulted in the departure of several higher-ups like former CCO, Serge Hascoet, and former Managing Director of Ubisoft’s Canadian studios, Yannis Mallat. This led to a call for Ubisoft to hold itself accountable as well as the “Assassin’s Creed Sisterhood” movement, which helps to create a safe space for women and those who identify as women in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, players and workers alike.

Yet Bloomberg has also given an update regarding Ubisoft’s actions and employers aren’t happy with the result.

Some managers who were accused of abusive behaviour remain in senior positions after Ubisoft’s attempt at reorganisation, prompting internal messages from employers for a better response to the situation at hand. It was also reported last month that French union Soldaires Informatique reported three Ubisoft Montreal managers that had received allegations of harassment, toxic behaviour, racism, and sexism, yet nothing was being done about it by HR.

As indicated in Jason’s tweets, a spokesperson commented that appropriate actions had been taken, yet fans were disappointed Yves Guillemot didn’t address what the company would be doing with its misconduct allegations in the recent Ubisoft Foward, with some even boycotting the show. This has overall left the Assassin’s Creed community and other supporters of Ubisoft disappointed and disheartened by their inactions.
