The Epic Games Store has launched its ‘Mega Sale‘ with a massive discount on more than 1,600 games!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Promotion will run for the next 4 weeks up until June 16th.

Epic has announced that over 1,600 games and add-ons with discounts of up to 75%. Alongside this gigantic sale on their online store, Epic have also delivered a free coupon to all Epic Games Store accounts worth 25% off purchases priced at, or combining to, £11.99. While this Mega Sale is happening, for the next four weeks gamers will be able to get their hands on free games with Epic Games Store’s “four weeks of blockbuster free tentpole games” starting with very popular title Borderlands 3, now available until May 26th, In 2021, the Epic giveaways began with NBA 2K21 but Epic has yet announce future free titles.

Epic Games Store sales are bound to continue in 2022 with the summer sale following in July and because of this, the storefront has safely secured a spot in the gaming landscape, providing some much-needed competition to Valve and Steam.

Turtle Rock Studios, the developer company for Back 4 Blood released a statement on wanting to get the game’s difficulty “just right”, as mentioned in a Reddit post by the company’s official channel. Despite (in my opinion, correct) claims that ‘a bit of difficulty can add a lot of replayability’, Turtle Rock is mostly concerned with criticisms from players on the difficulty of Back 4 Blood, as well as how issues and bugs found during development resulted in the game being ‘more difficult than intended’.

If you’re a Dark Soulsian difficulty-loving cycle-path (like me), then you’re in luck because we’re selling Back 4 Blood on PS4, Xbox One and not one, not two, but THREE PlayStation 5 editions (Standard, Steelbook and Special).

The Opinion Corner: Based on my highly rigorous intellectually herculean research on Back 4 Blood (which consists of a half-remembered Zero Punctuation review and playing Left 4 Dead a few years ago), the main source of difficulty gameplay wise comes from general bullet-sponge-grunge-festivity of the various zombie lads. That in itself isn’t a bad thing all the time, but next time you want to make a game difficult AND fun, you’ll want to make the way something is difficult clear.

Let’s take The Last of Us for example; another classic zombie shooty-bang-bang: Between the fast sight-gifted “runners”, the deadly but visually-impaired “clickers” and the burly-boi “bloaters”, each enemy type has different strengths and shortcomings that mean you have to adapt on the fly with how you react to them. And that’s not even covering environmental factors, like whether you’re able to take the stealthy approach at a certain time.

Back 2 Back 4 Blood. Other gameplay issues and fixes mentioned in the Reddit post include:

• The spawn rate of Ridden Mutations.
• Adjusting the trauma-damage system.
• Updates made to melee cards.
• The Cardinal Sin of ‘refocusing on playstyles away from speedrunning’. Speedrunning is awesome, here’s why!
• Oh, an offline mode, that’s nice.
• DLC and new difficulty levels have been released.
• A focus on ‘quality of life changes’.

Turtle Rock have recently made an announcement stating that they have plans to add ‘campaign progression’ for offline solo modes in Back 4 Blood. This will be added to the game in a patch that is currently intended to release in December. Back 4 Blood’s main advantage over prior co-op shooters like Left 4 Dead is the game’s live-service assistance and tiers of growth that it offers. It’s focus on online progression however has left solo players short, as some progression is only available online.

As Left 4 Dead players already play the same material week after week, it seems reasonable to reward them and provide new experiences that will keep them coming back. Back 4 Blood, on the other hand, does not fully cover the methods that Left 4 Dead players enjoy. Currently, solo players are unable to access these progression systems. This is changing in December, however.

Turtle Rock has released a roadmap for Back 4 Blood’s immediate future, revealing update plans for November and December, as well as more general aims for 2022. One especially fascinating bullet point for the December updates is about solo play. Turtle Rock intends to include solo offline play with campaign advancement, which will be a significant departure from the existing concept of Back 4 Blood’s offline solo play.

Back 4 Blood’s solo play has been isolated from the game’s progression mechanics since its release. This means there is no Supply Points, no stat monitoring, and no progress toward Accomplishments in the solo campaign mode.

It’s unclear what Turtle Rock has in mind for their upcoming fix. However, “campaign progression” can refer to a multitude of things. If taken literally, the addition of “campaign progression” certainly suggests that solo play will stay separate from online multiplayer and its progression mechanics. Instead, it would open a new, distinct advancement route. Back 4 Blood gamers are more likely to seek something more meaningful, such as a method to gain Supply Points.

Rocky Release for Back 4 Blood

In Turtle Rock’s defence, the company recognised that gamers were initially dissatisfied with Back 4 Blood’s solo alternatives. Turtle Rock “heard your frustrations,” according to a tweet on October 8, and the team was “discussing ways to address the issue.” Turtle Rock’s December update will be the result of months of preparation and effort.

Back 4 Blood gamers looking for fresh content will be pleased to learn that more than just solo mode adjustments are on the way in December. Turtle Rock will also be releasing new cards with a new card type, as well as new Supply Lines to move through, a practise area, and even a seasonal event. Tunnels of Terror, a more major content upgrade, is scheduled for 2022.

The hardware specs required for the PC version of Back 4 Blood have been revealed. The apocalyptic FPS developed by Turtle Rock Studios is heavily inspired by the classic co-op shooter Left 4 Dead and has garnered much hype as it has been dubbed a spiritual successor. It is developed by the same team behind Left 4 Dead, who went on to establish themselves as a new studio for the game’s development.  Thankfully, there is no need to break the bank on upgrading to new and expensive hardware, as the game does not require extensive processing power to function.

Back 4 Blood PC Specs

Minimum requirements (1080p / 60fps / Low Quality Settings):

• Processor: i5-6600 (3.3 GHz) or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 (3.4 GHz)
• Memory: 8 GB RAM

What to Expect

The influence of Left 4 Dead is obvious throughout all aspects of Back 4 Blood, as players are tasked with shooting their way through endless hordes of parasite-riddled infected as they make their way between safe rooms.

The game is a co-op shooter with a lot of promise.  It builds upon the foundations established way back when Left 4 Dead was dominating the competition, maintaining a strong and loyal fanbase even to this day.

Back 4 Blood adds to Left 4 Dead’s flawless formula with the addition of a card-based perk system and incredibly satisfying gunplay. It includes an extensive armoury, as well as a variety of perks that can be customised to suit your own chosen playstyle. There will be eight characters to choose from, each with their own strengths and flaws, whereas Left 4 Dead’s character choice was purely for aesthetic purposes.

Alongside this, the game also features a varied cast of “Ridden” – the games infected adversaries. Each type of Special Ridden will have their own special attack, meaning players must be tactical in their approach in dealing with these gruesome monsters.

Back 4 Blood will be released on the 12th of October across all platforms. Pre-Order your PS4/PS5 copy from the store now! If you have pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition of Back 4 Blood, you will have early access starting from the 7th of October. A zombie sound effect in Back 4 Blood has been found to resemble a racist slur…

The Back 4 Blood closed-beta took place last week, with the open beta kicking off yesterday. The game has been relatively well-received apart from players noticing what sounds remarkably similar to a racial slur coming from the zombies.

Twitter user HomBKE was allegedly the first to point it out, but other footage has followed up (WARNING: the clip contains profanity) and, yes, I can confirm it definitely sounds like the n-word. This was, of course, not an intentional inclusion by the developers. When something like this appears in your game, it obviously needs addressing immediately. The developer, Turtle Rock, has done just that. From the official Back 4 Blood Twitter account, the developer tweeted: “There is a known beta issue where several ridden growl sound effects are randomly combined by the system in such a way to create what sounds like an offensive slur… While unintentional, we take this very seriously and are profoundly sorry for any hurt or harm this may have caused. This issue will be fixed before launch.”

Yikes, talk about unfortunate. When relying on a machine to automatically generate your sound effects, I think a zombie hurling out racial slurs is perhaps the worst possible outcome. However, do not worry people, we will not have to face racist zombies upon the full game’s release.

For those who do not know, Back 4 Blood is the gaming classic Left 4 Dead’s spiritual successor, coming from the same studio and adopting many of the same mechanics. As previously mentioned, the open beta is up and running this weekend (free to play), so if you are a fan of the previous Left 4 Dead games and still want to give the game a whirl, then now is the time to do so.
