DLC has been central to Borderlands since the very beginning. Each Borderlands release has had additional content, such as DLC campaigns, additional playable characters, or downloadable skins. Some DLC campaigns, however, offer a markedly different experience to others, and as of today, one of the most popular Borderlands DLC campaigns – Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep – can be purchased separately.

DLC has Always Been a Big Part of Borderlands

Borderlands 2 brought so many new elements to the table, including the infamous Handsome Jack, and streamlined gameplay mechanics. As a result, Borderlands 2 set the standard for all subsequent games. The DLC campaign Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep was a favourite for many of the game’s fans. Now, players can experience the classic DLC campaign on next-generation systems.

A tweet from the official Gearbox account today revealed Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure will be available on next-gen systems separately. The campaign is also available for purchase on last-gen systems and PC. It was also announced by Gearbox Software that the re-release includes new cosmetics and loot for players to collect.

In addition to releasing on nearly all major platforms, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep is also available for free on the Epic Games Store until November 16th. Seeing such a beloved DLC campaign on updated systems is exciting. It’s quite unexpected for players to be able to purchase this campaign as a standalone since DLC campaigns are separate from the primary game.

What is Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep?

This a stand-alone release of a fan-favourite DLC. Many players consider Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep to be one of the best Borderlands DLC campaigns. Tiny Tina’s quirks, along with the imaginative framing, make for an engaging campaign. Few other video game DLC campaigns have been built on a tabletop game in the style of Dungeons & Dragons. It created a lasting effect on those who played it, with such a novel idea handled by such a distinctive figure.

As well as giving players an opportunity to catch up on the story, the standalone release allows them to prepare for Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, a Borderlands spin-off that takes place immediately after Assault on Dragon Keep. This will hopefully give fans of the series a unique opportunity to experience the DLC campaign on newer systems to prepare for the upcoming spin-off game.

Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland will be available March 25th, 2022 also across the same platforms.

The CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, Randy Pitchford, will be stepping down as President of gearbox software, and moving over to the newly formed film and TV portion of the company, Gearbox Studios. He is handing the reigns over to former CTO Steve Jones. Jones has worked at Gearbox for the last 22 years and served as Technical director on the first two “Borderlands” games.

While with Gearbox Studios, Randy will be overseeing the development of the upcoming Borderlands movie. Despite this, Randy has said that he will continue to give his “institutional knowledge of Gearbox brands and franchises”

Earlier this year, Gearbox was acquired by the embracer group, (who also own 3D realms, the original creators of the duke Nukem franchise currently owned by gearbox) in a deal worth 1.3 billion. At the time, Randy Pitchford told Gamesindustry.biz that it was “like a rocket booster” for his company’s ambitions.

The company is now split into 3 sections, Gearbox software, gearbox studios and gearbox Publishing, with the latter being headed by Steve Gibson.

Randy Pitchford got his start in the games industry at 3D Realms in Texas back in the 90s, where he worked as a level designer on numerous classic FPS games for the Build Engine, such as Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior. In 1997, he left 3D Realms and went to work at Rebel Rocket on the game “Prax War”, but Publisher EA pulled the funding in 1999 and Randy left Rebel Rocket to found Gearbox Software.

Gearbox would then go on to produce 3 expansion packs for Valves “Half-Life”, released as “Half-Life: Opposing Force”, “Half-Life: Decay” and “Half-Life: Blue shift”. After this, Gearbox would come to be best known for Developing and releasing the celebrated Borderlands series, the first entry of which sold 4.5 million copies.
The studio has also had some controversy. In quick succession Gearbox released the much Maligned “Duke Nukem Forever ” and “Aliens: Colonial Marines ” which were received incredibly poorly. This pales, however, to the 2018 Litigation against Pitchford over him allegedly leaving a USB stick containing company records and an adult video at a medieval themed restaurant. The Litigation was settled out of court and Randy Pitchford was exonerated.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderland now has a release window thanks to publisher Take-Two’s latest financial results.

After being announced at E3 2021, Borderlands fans worldwide have been eagerly waiting for more news regarding the upcoming spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. Well, thanks to recent developments, we have a rough release date.

In an official document, which details the company’s success over the last fiscal year, Take-Two stated that Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands “will be released later this fiscal year.”

For those unaware, the fiscal year in question runs from April 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022. When Tiny Tina’s Wonderland was announced, it was given an “early 2022” release date. These new dates now mean that we can expect to get our hands on the fantasy looter shooter between January 1 and March 31, 2022.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderland is a four-player co-op game taking place after the events of Borderlands 2 DLC Assault on Dragon Keep. It was described in the financial results as “an epic adventure full of whimsy, wonder, and high-powered weaponry set in an unpredictable fantasy world where magic, broadswords, and bullets collide”. Wonderlands is based on a Dungeons & Dragons-inspired tabletop game known in the Borderlands universe as Bunkers & Badasses. Controlled by bunker master Tiny Tina herself, it promises the same fun-filled chaotic energy the character has given off in every one of their appearances.

The game also features a star-studded cast which includes the person responsible for bringing Tiny Tina to life in the original Borderlands series; Ashly Burch – who is also well-recognized for her work as Chloe in Life is Strange and Aloy in Horizon Zero Dawn – as well as other recognizable voices such as Andy Samberg as Captain Valentine, Will Arnett as The Dragon Lord, and Wanda Sykes as Fret.

Tina Tina’s Wonderlands will release early next year on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and PC.

Its announcement came alongside news that filming for the Borderlands movie had finished, featuring a similarly star-studded ensemble. It is due to be an exciting year for Pandora’s whacky franchise.

Borderlands 3 has added cross-play functionality, a new level cap, and new legendaries for players to hunt…

A new update for Borderlands 3 was announced today. Along with it comes many new features for the game, cross-play functionality being one of them. The new cross-play functionality will allow players across Steam, Epic Games Store, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S to all play together through the game’s SHiFT Matchmaking system. Sadly, this does not include PlayStation users.

The process is simple enough. Players will simply have to make a uniquely named ShiFT account.

Another big change following the update is the increase in the level cap to level 72. This allows players to create more powerful builds to tackle Borderlands and its various DLCs.

Additionally, endless seasonal events have been added. Such events can be made active or inactive by players. This does not include the game’s various limited time events. Examples of seasonal events include Bloody Harvest, Broken Hearts Day, and Revenge of the Cartels. Players, therefore, can complete challenges and collect loot from the events for as long as they need to collect it all. This means players will not be rushed in getting some of the legendary gear required for their builds. The update also includes a new finale event for the True Trials mini-events for the most powerful players (high skill level requirement).

The update follows numerous balancing tweaks for Borderlands 3, as well as two season passes of DLC content.

For those who don’t know, Borderlands 3 is an open-world, high action, role-playing first-person shooter game in which you play as ‘Vault Hunters’, traversing Pandora in the never-ending quest for treasure. Players make their own builds, explore, complete missions and of course, loot. You are constantly trying to get your hands on legendary loot, so you can take on harder missions with greater rewards. All of this can be done by yourself or with friends.

It seems like now is a good time for new players to get involved with Borderlands 3. It is also a good time for old players to revisit, with the added potential to strengthen their builds even further (due to the increased level cap).

This update also comes after announcing the ‘Tiny Tina’s Wonderland’ spinoff series at E3, 2021. It is a four-player co-op game set in “an unpredictable fantasy world”, taking place after the events of Borderlands 2 DLC Assault on Dragon Keep.

Similarly, we also received word that the Borderlands movie recently finished filming.

It seems to be a good year so far for Borderlands fans as we keep getting new content for Pandora’s whacky universe.

and it looks… surprisingly good?

As we know, a feature film adaptation of Gearbox’s Borderland game series has been in production for a while. Well, we can tell you now, it has finally finished filming.

When Lionsgate’s adaptation was announced, fans felt a mix of excitement and nerves, as we always do with film adaptations of games. We know from the past that they rarely recreate the same magic as their video game counterpart. It will be tough to recreate the world of Pandora’s whacky brilliance. However, some of the details we’ve seen so far provoke some optimism.

For example, the cast is actually surprisingly impressive. It includes Cate Blanchett (Lilith), Jamie Lee Curtis (Dr Patricia Tannis) and the always hilarious duo of Kevin Hart (Roland) and Jack Black (Clap Trap). This cast, alongside the director-writer duo of Eli Roth and Chernobyl writer Craig Maxin, means we may actually have something to be excited about.

I’m particularly eager to see how Jack Black’s Claptrap translates to the big screen. I personally love that casting selection and have high hopes for Claptrap’s movie endeavours. Although we do not have excessive detail to go on for most of the characters, we at least know how Jack Black’s claptrap will appear on the screen (see below).

It appears that Claptrap will be maintaining the same look on the screen. On the other hand, the other characters have been kept in the shadows (quite literally, see below).

Despite their faces being kept in the dark, it seems our favourite characters will be maintaining a lot of the same appearances as in the games (at least outfit wise).

The film’s synopsis reads as follows “Lilith (Cate Blanchett), an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora to find the missing daughter of the universe’s most powerful S.O.B., Atlas. Lilith forms an alliance with an unexpected team – Roland (Kevin Hart), a former elite mercenary, now desperate for redemption; Tiny Tina (Arianna Greenblatt), a feral pre-teen demolitionist; Krieg (Florian Munteanu), Tina’s musclebound, rhetorically challenged protector; Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), the scientist with a tenuous grip on sanity; and Claptrap (Jack Black), a persistent wiseass robot. These unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits to find and protect the missing girl, who may hold the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other.

The news of the filming coming to an end comes shortly after the new Borderland spinoff game ‘Tiny Tina’s Wonderland’ was revealed at E3, 2021. Borderlands fans have a lot to look forward to in the next two years.

In terms of a release date, due to filming having just finished, we predict the post-production processes will mean a 2022 release.

Gearbox is ready to start on a new Borderlands game.

Gearbox announced, during it’s final panel at PAX South yesterday, that it’ll begin to start work on a new Borderlands game.

Randy Pitchford, who is Gearbox’s CEO, has said on Twitter: “We are recruiting for next Borderlands. This is the big one. Industry badass? E-mail me: heyrandy@gearboxsoftware.com,”. “We want to hear from passionate and talented people to help us with next Borderlands game. Check our website!”

A whole bunch of new openings are available on Gearbox’s jobs page on their website. One that is included is for a writer who will oversee and direct the development of the story and who will also plot for a AAA title. Pitchford did not disclose information that the next Borderlands will be Borderlands 3, but he did call it the “big one”, so this seems likely!

Also in their announcement, Gearbox informed us that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be getting campaign DLC that will take you into the mind of dear old Claptrap, and that tomorrow (Tuesday 27^th January) it’ll be adding Lady Hammerlock as a playable character. Exciting things lie ahead for the Gearbox crew!
