Get your pens ready and calendars out to drop this date in quickly! Ubisoft have just announced a January 11 release date for Far Cry 6’s Pagan Min DLC. What a way to start the New Year!

Pagan Min’s arrival will be apart of the second DLC available for the Season Pass and will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Stadia and PC. Gamers will able to purchase it through both the Ubisoft Store and the Epic Games Store.

“Players will embody Pagan Min, the iconic villain from Far Cry 4, in a brand-new experience inspired by the roguelite genre taking place in the depths of the villain’s troubled psyche,” according to the game’s publisher.

“Blending intense action and storytelling, Pagan: Control will provide a unique opportunity for players to explore Pagan’s mind, learn more about his past, and face off against familiar faces as he struggles to break free from his cycle of guilt and regrets.”

This certainly isn’t the first former antagonist making his return. It follows last November’s release of the first Season Pass DLC, Vaas: Insanity. Arguably the most iconic Far Cry Villain it was obviously fantastic to see his return.. Available separately for $14.99 / £11.99 (although the base game is required), it lets players step into the role of Far Cry 3 villain Vaas Montenegro.

Similarly, players will also soon have the chance to take control of Far Cry 5 villain Joseph Seed, as he is the third and final piece of Season Pass DLC.

The Future Of The Far Cry Franchise And Ubisoft

Unfortunately, Ubisoft recently confirmed that the most senior creative director behind the Far Cry franchise had left the company after ten years. As a result, some fans have been left wondering where exactly the series will go to next. It seems that they have now answered that question as Far Cry 7 could shake-up the series with a greater focus on online play.

Additionally, Ubisoft also announced that Rainbow Six Extraction will be coming to the Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and Cloud. If we haven’t given enough reasons as to why the Xbox game pass is so good already, well here’s another one!

Lastly, the infamous games publisher also revealed that Ubisoft+ subscription service is coming to Xbox consoles. With all this, a new theme park on its way and some free games being handed out, it’s certainly not a dull time to be a fan of the developers. The post Far Cry 6’s Pagan Min DLC To Launch Next Week first appeared on Get2Gaming.

It’s the end of an era for Ubisoft. The most senior creative behind Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise, Dan Hay, has left the company after a decade. Overseeing arguably the most prosperous period in Ubisoft Montreals existence, the executive producer has decided to move on from his work.

His first production was Far Cry 3, the legendary FPS which was hailed by fans and critics alike. Since then, he has managed to produce every instalment since, with his portfolio boasting Blood Dragon, Far Cry 4, Primal, Far Cry 5 and New Dawn. He also had involvement with Far Cry 6, so don’t be afraid  to pick up a copy of it here.

Out of the whole series, Far Cry 5 was his passion project. He worked as creative director on the title, which also saw great commercial success(Not as successful as this title though, sorry Dan). Take a look at this interview below, where he discusses his thought processes behind making the game:

Dan Hay Join Long List Of Ubisoft Departures

The reason behind Dan’s departure is that he would like to start a ‘new chapter’ in his life. After all, ten years at any company is a long time, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Nevertheless, it will come as a big blow for the studio. This is what they had to say upon the matter:

“Dan has been the Executive Director of Far Cry and has developed an incredible multi-disciplined team to produce what has become one of the most popular games in Ubisoft’s history. While Dan has not announced where his path is taking him, we are confident that it will offer him the new challenges and experiences he seeks and deserves. We thank Dan for his many contributions over the years and wish him all the best for the future”.

The studio then went on the explain who exactly will be taking over from Dan in the meantime.

“In the interim, the brand team will be led by Sandra Warren in Montreal as well as a highly capable team of producers and directors, in addition to continuing its collaborations with a number of other studios around the world.”

Unfortunately for Ubsioft, this isn’t the biggest problem they have on their hands at the moment. The French games publisher is still facing criticism after revelations of recent sexual misconduct, harassment and discrimination in the company.

As a result, a group of employees called A Better Ubisoft have demanded for ‘real, fundamental changes’ in an open letter to the studio. Gaining over 1.000 signatures from current and former staff, it stated that Ubisoft have only offered “nothing more than a year of kind words, empty promises, and an inability or unwillingness to remove known offenders”.

Hopefully, the studio will listen to these complaints and manage to come out better the other side.

Far Cry 6 has seen various improvements as well as removed content!

Ubisoft. Honey. Shnookums. You adorable little Far Cry Baby. We NEED to talk about branding! I’m no giga-brained 1080p tech-wizard, but I’m tech literate enough to know that one does not simply… You know:

Psst, while I have you, we got various versions of Far Cry 6 here at the store plus a cutesy Vaas bobblehead. Because nothing says adorable little plaything like a figure of an unhinged battered charismaniac from Far Cry 3!

Ubisoft is currently working to remove this accidental release of the work-in-progress Danny Trejo DLC. The DLC will be released as part of a new update for Stadia, PC and Luna (essentially What If Stadia but in Amazon flavour) players of Far Cry 6. Check the post-launch gameplay overview trailer for Far Cry 6 here and also this handy dandy summary of the narrative timeline of the games if you’re a lorehead like me.

Ubisoft has also claimed:

“The Dani & Danny vs Everybody mission is a work-in-progress and was accidentally released early,” […] “We’re working to remove it and look forward to when players can check out the final version. We apologize for any confusion caused and will follow up shortly with more information”

In Other News: Ubisoft claimed last week that Far Cry 6’s early sales were in line with those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, a game released in a similar timeframe, and that playtime per user was up 25% compared to Far Cry 5. The upcoming Far Cry is also rumored to have a greater focus on online play… Sadly, we also go another day without a new gaming company calling itself ‘IbHard’ in accordance with the Macrohard On-fire school of opposite-phrasing, but hey, you take the good with the bad.

Players have offered some thoughtful criticism on the lack of NPCs in the game.

Far Cry 6 has been out since October 7th – almost a month now. Dedicated players have squeezed out most if not all of the content it has to offer. There is a bountiful supply of content in Far Cry 6, with massive environments to discover. However, players have noticed a problem with the population density of NPCs in the world.

Redditor StonewallSoyah points out that even the main operation base in Libertad is sparsely populated. It seems to be to the point of immersion-breaking: the environments don’t feel alive because there’s no one to occupy them.

NPCs are crucial for making a game feel alive. You would think that the studio that brought us Watch Dogs: Legion, a game that centres on making NPCs come to life, would have a good understanding of that rule.

Skyrim is often upheld as the gold standard of NPC interaction: every location is filled with a unique set of NPCs, and some of the most memorable ones are considered highlights of the game.

Far Cry is falling back spectacularly in this regard. Not only are NPC populations sparse, but it’s always the same NPC giving the player information at each new base, which hinders the feeling that each environment is unique.

This isn’t the first time that the Far Cry series has faced issues with NPC population density, either. In Far Cry 3, players would often capture enemy outposts, only for the same three Rakyat warrior NPCs to arrive at the outpost to claim it. Then when players revisited the outposts or other landmarks later in the game, there were little to no NPCs around to populate the area.

A great open-world game makes the player feel a part of its world. While Far Cry 6’s player-focused narrative and gameplay are strong, it’s not offering the same immersion into another world as other games. Along with Skyrim, games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout: New Vegas are densely populated with unique NPCs. In Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur’s interactions and the forming of relationships with NPCs are crucial to fleshing him out as a character – and how the player chooses to treat NPCs can directly affect the game’s ending.

It would be great to see Ubisoft address this issue, as they continue to fix several remaining bugs in Far Cry 6. However, the game is likely set to receive more updates soon, and adding more NPCs could cause issues with performance.

If you haven’t played Far Cry 6 for a little while, you may just receive a mocking email from the dictator himself.

Sometimes, you start a new game full of excitement, ready to sink hours into mastering it. But then, life gets in the way. Or something new tugs at your attention. And that’s totally fine! Although it doesn’t always feel great neglecting a game you spent hard-earned money on (gamer guilt, we’ve all been there), it’s natural to lose interest in things. You’ll probably come back to it at some point, and the game isn’t going anywhere, so there’s no rush – right?

Apparently not, according to Far Cry 6‘s enemy number one, Anton Castillo. Players have been receiving these passive-aggressive emails:

In the email, Castillo thanks the player for ‘giving [him] free rein in Yara’ and tells them ‘Yara is in capable hands’. The email then includes the players stats. In this email, the player has actually sunk a considerable amount of hours into the game. If it’s supposed to be fourth-wall-breaking, it fails rather spectacularly. Why would the dictator egg on someone who single-handedly took out 2186 of his soldiers? And the stat for unique weapons seems to suggest that there are more to be found: so he’s giving the player information that could lead to his downfall.

While the email appears playful (if a little irritating) the cynic in me sees it as a ploy by Ubisoft to get players back in the game so they’ll spend money at the in-game store. No, it’s not enough just to purchase a game anymore. You’re also going to be goaded into upgrading your kit for an extra sum.

These sorts of emails are nothing new, but they’re especially annoying for single-player campaign-oriented games. It’s not like you’ve got some big event or update to tell me about! It’s really just a nuisance.

Far Cry 6 is an otherwise fantastic game that you can pick up here. I can’t promise that Castillo won’t be blowing up your inbox, though.

Ubisoft give a glimpse into the future of their beloved action-based franchise

With the release of Far Cry 6 being hot on everyone’s tongues, there is already information regarding a sequel to Far Cry 6 which hints that the series could head into a more Assassin’s Creed territory with regards to online capabilities.

According to a recent report from Axios Gaming’s Stephen Totilo, Far Cry 7 might take Ubisoft’s popular series in a totally new direction by leaning into a more “online-oriented approach”.

Totilo says that “Ubisoft appears to know a shake-up is needed” and states that his sources claim “the company was exploring a more online-oriented approach for a sequel.”

This is significant as Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claimed that Far Cry 7 could go in “a radically different direction,” earlier this year, and that lines up with this information.

While neither Totilo nor Schreier revealed much about the new direction that the series could go in, it’s possible that Ubisoft is looking to reinvent Far Cry. The series hasn’t changed much since Far Cry 3 in 2012. In that same period, however, Ubisoft rebooted the entire Assassin’s Creed franchise, starting with 2017’s Origins. However, Totilo points out that other franchises, such as Ghost Recon and Watch Dogs, are yet to receive similar overhauls. It is notable that that these reports aren’t confirmations as things could always change and we won’t know for sure what the future of the series is until we hear it from Ubisoft itself. Online multiplayer games have become increasingly popular as the years have gone by so one can see why plugging those elements into an existing series may seem like a good way to freshen up the formula.

With only two more days until we’re transported to the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, Ubisoft has decided to reveal the full trophy list for the sixth main installment of their first-person shooter franchise.

For all you trophy hunters out there, you’ll be able to start planning your revolutionary uprising against Giancarlos Espositos fascist dictatorship nice and early, and if this trophy list is anything to go by, the earlier you start the better! With 54 trophies in total, Far Cry players are going to have their hands full toppling the games new tyrannical regime.

The latest game is set to be released on the 7th of October, and looks to be a possible standout in a month jam-packed with all new releases. If your a Far Cry fanatic waiting to discover the trophy list then, its possibly best you look away now. However, if you’ve been gagging to know the ins and outs on what to expect when taking on this latest adventure, then your fight for freedom starts here!

Fans of the series will not be too unfamiliar with the trophy hunting process of Far Cry games. But for those looking to make Far Cry 6 their introduction to the popular series, then it should be noted that the list usually has a variety of different objectives needed to unlock those trophies. From capturing certain areas to levelling things up, it is always tricky to figure out what to tackle first. Some trophies are even more secretive in nature, with Ubisoft making sure not all is revealed for us. Anyway, it’s best to get started on exactly what they are!

Bronze Trophies

As with many games, Bronze trophies are usually where the game likes to have a little fun with us. Far Cry 6 doesn’t intend to stop that trend. Finding roosters and winning games of dominoes aren’t exactly what you’d imagine overpowering a dictatorship would involve, nevertheless that’s exactly what you need to do to achieve that all elusive platinum trophy. As you can see bronze trophies take up the bulk of the collection, but this is where things get slightly trickier. Two of the Silver trophies will require solo play, so whilst Far Cry 6 does allow co-op, you will have to head out into Yara alone for those Achievements and Trophies.

There are only two gold trophies in the game, with one being to simply just take down the villain. As with every game, collecting all these trophies will give you the satisfaction of obtaining that Platinum Trophy!

• Conquistador – Unlock all Trophies

The level of research and detail will equal that of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, though the map itself will be smaller

Far Cry 6 will take place on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara. Unlike previous series entries, in Far Cry 6 players will get to experience an entire country.

Yara is brought to life with striking flora and fauna, gorgeous architecture brought to a state of ruin, and a tense atmosphere as guerrilla revolution stirs among the people: a precarious revolution set against the background of a tropical paradise, with clear Cuban inspiration. Yara is filled with culture and character despite the oppressive state inflicted by dictator Anton Castillo.

Ben Hall, who served as a senior-level designer on Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and went on to become the World Director for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, is well equipped to bring Yara to life. In an interview with TechRadar, he talks about the similarities in the research part of the development of these two games.

‘We went to similar lengths of reference and research as we would for an Assassin’s Creed game, so bringing that same philosophy into it was important.’

Assassin’s Creed games have always been lauded for their detailed environments and historically accurate depictions of different locations and time periods, so the claim that Far Cry 6 maintains a similar level of intensive research is saying a lot! The accuracy of Assassin’s Creed’s environments is so highly acclaimed that the world maps are offered as educational tools for schools.

After the tragic burning of the Notre-Dame cathedral in 2019, Ubisoft even offered their 5,000 hours of research on the building to aid the rebuilding efforts. Fourteen months had been spent by the team, studying the cathedral to create an accurate in-game model for gamers to do parkour among the pews or eagle-dive off the spires.

Hall told TechRadar, “From an overarching philosophy, it remains somewhat the same in terms of the process of building, the level of detail – going into that research was something that was important that we put into this world for Far Cry. We went to similar lengths of reference and research as we would for an Assassin’s Creed game, so bringing that same philosophy into it was important.”

Hall also acknowledges that working on a first-person game has been different to his experience with a third-person series like Assassin’s Creed: “Spatial awareness becomes slightly different … that’s where the support of the team that I’ve been working with has been phenomenal because they’ve helped me with that. They’ve got that experience from previous Far Cry games and we’ve been able to fuse the two philosophies together to try and build the best worlds we possibly can for players.”

Though the team did do intense research on Cuba, this time the research is purely inspirational. Unlike in Assassin’s Creed, where maps are direct recreations of real-life settings, Yara is a fictional setting with some key differences to Cuba. Hall points out that you wouldn’t find any alligators hanging out in pools in Cuba, but you will in Yara!

I personally can’t wait to see Far Cry’s fictional country with the same level of detail and research as AC Odyssey.

Assassin’s Creed – The Movie

French actress, Marion Cotillard, has signed on to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie!

French actress, Marion Cotillard, is now signed up and a part of the upcoming 2016 Assassin’s Creed film! Although her role has yet to be revealed by Ubisoft or, production company, The New Regency. This is according to Deadline. 

Michael Fassbender has already been cast previously for the film and will now be working alongside Cotillard, which they have previously, and recently, done in an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This was also coincidentally directed by Justin Kurzel, who is directing the Assassin’s Creed film. 

Marion Cotillard, who you will probably recognise from Inception or The Dark Knight Rises, has also previously won an Oscar for her role as Édith Piaf in 2007’s La Vie en Rose. Michael Fassbender was also nominated for an Oscar for his 2013 role in 12 Years a Slave. We’ve recently found out that production has officially started for the Assassin’s Creed film and they will be shooting soon!

The film will hit cinemas on 21st December 2016 and is produced by New Regency and Twentieth Century Fox. This is exactly a week after the Star Wars spin-off film enters the cinema. 

Ubisoft will be retaining it’s creative control through it’s Ubisoft Motion Pictures Group, and are also working on five other films which are based on their games. These are the Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell, Far Cry, Watch Dogs and Rabbids franchises.
