Xbox have announced a new controller for the Xbox Series X|S. Named ‘Deep Pink‘, it is the latest coloured controller – following on from their Shock Blue, Pulse Red and Electric Volt (green) controllers. Carbon Black and Robot White are also available. It is available in the US now for $64.99 on the Microsoft Store. It is not yet for sale in the UK, but is expected soon – with purebox.com expecting it to fall between £54.99 and £59.99.

Just like the other colours in the Xbox Series X range, the Deep Pink controller features textured triggers and bumpers, a hybrid D-Pad, and Bluetooth support. It also comes with a dedicated Share button, allowing players to capture and share recordings or screenshots. The battery life has a range of up to 40 hours. However, Xbox have also released a Deep Pink version of the Razer Universal Charging Stand. This stand is compatible with controllers from the different eras – excluding the new Xbox Elite Controller 2.

Finally, the new controller is compatible with the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10 or 11, Android and IOS devices.

Latest in the Xbox Range

Xbox have released a number of controllers to mark the arrival of the Series X console. In addition to the coloured variants, Xbox have also released three special edition controllers. The first is the 20th Anniversary Edition controller – that harkens back to days of old with its black body and green accents. Second is the Aqua Shift blue controller that features swirl grips. The third special edition is the Daystrike Camo Special Edition – adorned with a red, grey and black camouflage pattern.

Xbox have also released two game-themed controllers as well. The first is the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Halo Infinite Limited Edition, where the controller is designed to resemble the Spartan armour of the franchise. The second is the Forza Horizon 5 Limited Edition controller. This controller has a translucent yellow casing and a vibrant paint splatter of pink and blue. The Forza edition controller comes with DLC for a exclusive 1932 Ford De Luxe Five-Window Coupé Forza Edition car, as well as cosmetic items and victory emote.

The Game Developers Conference is an annual gathering of all manner of professionals within the gaming industry. The Game Developers Choice Awards, or GDCA, are one of the most highly anticipated events of the yearly conference, honouring game developers who excelled in audio, design, storytelling, innovation, and social effect in the previous year. This year’s event will be hosted in San Francisco, CA, through March 21^st to March 25^th, despite being hosted online for the last two years. The nominees for Game of the Year have recently been revealed.

There are five games in the running for the GDCA Game of the Year award, three of which will be known to those who watched The Game Awards in December 2021. Resident Evil Village, Arkane Studios’ time-hopping first-person shooter Deathloop, and TGA Game of the Year winner It Takes Two are all in with a chance for the GDCA prize. Inscryption, a horror-themed deckbuilder produced by Devolver Digital, and Forza Horizon 5 are also on the list.

Several of the candidates for the GDCA Game of the Year award this year have  been nominated in other categories too. Deathloop has been nominated for six awards, It Takes Two has been nominated for five, while Forza Horizon 5 has received four nominations. The GDCA ceremony on March 23 will announce the winners in all categories, and the event will be livestreamed on the GDC Twitch channel.

Accessibility in video games is varied and interesting topic to discuss. Not just in terms of “let me access all the games”, but also in the sense of “hey, a lot of games aren’t easily playable for folks with some disabilities, what’s up with that”.

There has recently been a report a study on needs and habits of disabled gamers in the UK, performed by the charity organisation Scope and written up by Vivek Gohill. The study included 1,326 people (812 disabled, 514 not disabled) with the goal of exploring issues faced in the gaming world. You can view the full report here.

Common complaints regarding lack of accessibility include:

• The high expense and low availability of assistive technology.
• Lack of in-game accessibility options.
• An inability to return games upon discovering it does not have contextually essential accessible features.

The report also showed disabled individuals often purchase in-game extras more often in games they do play, as well as watching Esports and engaging in social media more often. Gohill also pointed out the some 14 million disabled gamers in the UK alone spend combined billions in disposable income, so there’s an ethically sound reason for broadening accessible features across more video games. On a similar note, there’s a great Jimquisition episode on how loot boxes and gambling mechanics in gaming effect discourse on accessibility.

Prominent video games praised for their accessibility options include Forza Horizon 5, the latest Ratchet and Clank, and The Last of Us Part 2 (featuring options tailored for players with hearing difficulties, sight impairment and difficulty with physical mobility). In true Paralympic fashion, Microsoft has also announced plans for an ‘inclusion-based’ Esports tournament, as well as having released an Xbox Adaptive Controller for players who struggle with the standard controller.

Given the toxicity of of many online spaces, the Scope report also highlights that “doing more to tackle negative attitudes about disability online” should be a top priority based on responses from its participants. As someone on the autistic spectrum, I agree that more should be done to dismantle negative preconceptions about people with disabilities. Not everyone will react the same to having those conversations and progress can be very small on an individual scale, but every little helps.

Forza Horizon 5 was released last week for Xbox consoles and PC. Since then, critics,and millions of players love it too. According to Xbox boss Phil Spencer, Forza Horizon 5 is the biggest launch for an Xbox Game Studios release in the company’s history and it already has over 4.5 million active players across PC and console.

Within Forza Horizon 5 you’ll find a huge list of custom horns within the garage tab of within the home menu. This is also where you can upgrade and tune your cars, buy some new ones or sell some that you’re not so interest in.

In the video above – posted by YouTuber VintageMatthews – you can hear the wide variety of horns available in-game.

Forza has an Insane Variety of Horns!

Several of these horns are the monotonous honks and beeps that you hear all the time. There are more fascinating horns in the musical and sound effect portions. It includes songs like “Ride of the Valkyries,” “Jingle Bells.” Or the theme tune from Sea of Thieves. To be even more specific, the music from Banjo-Spiral Kazooie’s Mountain level.

Aside from some strange music selections, there is a vast array of sound effects available, including laser blasts, whistles, wolf howling, doorbells, dial-up modems, and more. Also, considering Forza is a Microsoft game, someone decided to include some Microsoft noises here. You may, for example, have a horn that is simply the call sounds from Microsoft’s Teams. Or, for that matter, the Windows 10 notification noise. Alternatively, you may use the Windows XP shutdown jingle.  Microsoft/Xbox also obviously own Halo, so you may use the Grunt Birthday Party Skull’s sound effect as your horn too. Crazy. Stranger still, the sound of the Chief’s shield recharging.

As you can see, that barely even scrapes the surface of the sheer amount of crazy horns featured in the latest entry into the Forza Horizon series.

The fifth instalment had the largest launch day ever in the history of Xbox Game Studios

Forza Horizon 5 was officially released on November 9 and it has already made history with its publisher Xbox Game Studios as receiving the biggest launch day for the company in the history of its games.

The fifth instalment in Playground Games‘ open-world racing series was created with the aim to make it bigger than any of its predecessors and it has clearly already knocked it out of the park.

Forza Horizon 5

The fifth instalment developed by Playground Games is bigger than ever before thanks to the team’s decision to make it so. The team chose Mexico as the game’s setting due to its diverse and varied landscape and they partnered with Mexican artists to create the in-game murals, and Mexican musicians to create the in-game soundtracks. It also sent a team to visit Mexico to capture real-world light and sky data.

Forza Horizon 5 has already accumulated over 4.5 million players from its official launch as well as from its Early Access, which players got access to from the Forza Horizon 5: Premium Edition. 

More than 1.2 million Xbox and PC users could be found playing Forza Horizon 5: Premium Edition before November 9, and Xbox Game Pass subscribers also had access to Premium Edition add-ons which included the Early Access too.

This means that Forza Horizon 5 had already grossed between $54 million and $118 million (£40,016,970 and £87,444,490) before its official release.

Xbox’s boss Phil Spencer took to Twitter to commemorate Forza Horizon 5‘s achievement. He mentions how Forza Horizon 5 is tracking much higher than its predecessor and the idea to have the racing game available across multiple devices through PC, xCloud, and Xbox consoles paid off.

The game has won over plenty of its fans, but even more, has won over plenty of critics too. Forza Horizon 5 currently stands as the highest-rated new game of the year on Metacritic with a score of 92. It is also the second-highest Xbox Series X/S game of 2021, just falling under Hades.

Forza Horizon 5 include a great number of new horns for fans which include the themes from Halo, Killer Instinct, Sea of Thieves, the Spiral Mountain theme from Banjo-Kazooie, The Outer Worlds, the theme from Battletoads, and the original soundtrack from the first level of Doom

The November lineup for Xbox Game pass has been announced. The November Xbox Game Pass roster includes It Takes Two, GTA San Andreas, and Minecraft for PC, with the upcoming racer Forza Horizon 5 also joining the service at launch.

Forza Horizon 5 is without a doubt the month’s most significant addition after Halo Infinite of course. On November 9, it will be accessible to Game Pass users on PC, console, and cloud gaming platforms.

Forza Horizon 5 is a highly anticipated racer produced by Playground Games, and fans will be able to experience a part of Mexico portrayed in the makers’ signature style: a scenic and beautiful driving paradise. It will be available for pre-load on Xbox Game Pass for consoles, PC, and Cloud on November 9, and can be  pre-loaded now.
