While reaction to Halo infinites Multiplayer and single player has been mostly positive, one thing that has not been as well received is the games monetization. The games multiplayer component is free to play, and the game’s battle passes are permanent, but the XP rates for the battle pass being tied to challenges and the high price of skins in the store have been heavily criticized.

A quick glance over at the Halo Subreddit Shows that many are dissatisfied with the prices of items in the game. u/boxops (linked below) Points out that a single Helmet costs $20, while another commenter further down said that they would happily have paid full price for the multiplayer if it meant a return to the traditional unlock system.

While 343 have don’t a lot to quickly address a lot of Players criticism of the game, such as Devoted slayer playlists and fixing the battle pass progression somewhat, the studio has remained deafly silent about changes to the store. It can be argued that the pricing of items in Halo infinites store is not too far off from pricing in other games, however this is a new feature for the halo series and some fans are, understandable, unhappy. For a comparison point, Destiny 2 (a game developed by the same people who made the original halo games), charges $20 for 2300 Silver (an in game currency). the amount can be exchanged for an entire cosmetic set for armour, plus leaving you with about 800 Silver left over, were as in halo infinite this would only get you a helmet.

With all this being said, in the wake of a recent shutdown of the Halo Subreddit, it does need to be said that while it is ok to want change in the game, it is not ok to abuse the developers online.

Halo Infinites Loot caves can be make or break for a round of Stockpile, CTF, or any other big team battle mode. These areas can give your team access to a wide range of weapons and equipment as well as a hard to reach vantage point. These caves are rare, but critically important to your game. Here is how to get in, and what you will find inside

How to get into loot caves

Infinites multiplayer only launched this week, so right now there is only a single map that features loot caves, that being Fragmentation. In matchmaking its exclusive to big team battle Queues, and is one of the largest maps in the game. There are 2 loot caves, on opposite ends of the map, but both look the same so identification should not be too hard. You are looking for a sci-fi like door carved into the otherwise natural looking terrain. 

When you first approach it it will be lit red and will have a terminal to the side of the door, which when interacted with will start a 20 second timer. As soon as that timer is done, the door will change colour from red to blue and open up. Once inside there will be a metric tone of weapons, with guns lining the walls and grenades and power weapons scattered across the ground.

To best utilize loot caves, open then when you have team-mates nearby. Co-ordinate with them on when to enter and exit so no-one gets trapped inside, and make off with an arsenal of weaponry the likes of which your enemy has never seen before.

Sidenote: uh… we still don’t know what those keypads found on other maps are for, like the one below from bizarre. The keypads can either display an active or Inactive message, but what this does, if anything, is still unclear.

The multiplayer of Halo infinite released earlier this week as part of the 20 years of xbox celebration, and the game mode has already garnered hundreds of players. The multiplayer itself is free to play, but fans can purchase a now ubiquitous “battle pass” from the shop to unlock items. However some players have had some issues with how the pass has progressed.

To level your battle pass, right now you need to complete specific challenges. Xp can only be gained through these challenges, meaning you could theoretically frag out in a match and receive absolutely no XP for it. Some challenges also require players to play certain game modes which are not currently available, meaning that people can be effectively time gated out of content.

343 have acknowledged the issue and are monitoring battle pass progression from launch day. Community director Bran Jarred has confirmed the devs are collecting information dn data from the launch day and will “share updates as we have them.” Whether the team at 343 will change the entire system used or just rework what exists is currently unclear, however.

One of the main things players have suggested is the addition of XP rewards for match completions to help grind through the battle pass while also maintaining the current challenge system. This particular idea is similar to how Destiny 2 handles its season pass, with A list of up to 10 “weekly challenges” granting large buffs to XP but players still continuing to earn while playing the main game even if they are not completing those challenges.

As of right now its unclear if any changes at all will be introduced, but fans can take some solace in the fact that 343 is monitoring the situation

343 have extended Halo Infinite’s first season, which was expected to conclude early 2022, until May 2nd 2022.

Yesterday, as part of the big 20 years of Xbox celebration, Microsoft made Halo Infinites Free-to-play Multiplayer mode available to play on PC, Xbox one and Xbox Series X/S. this Would have been a great surprise had it not been leaked last week.

Right now, Players have access to all maps and content, plus the Full season one battle pass which they can start to unlock, the progress of which will continue over to the main game when it officially releases on December 8th.

Along with the launch, Halo Infinites Head of Creative Joseph Staten Unveiled that the season one battle pass will be extended from 343’s original aim of shipping a new season every 3 months.

To Quote from the statement “When you start playing the beta, you will notice in the Battle Pass UI that Season 1 will last from now until May 2022, which is a change from our original goal of shipping a new Season every three months. We made the decision to extend Season 1 to give ourselves more time to ensure Season 2 meets our high quality bar and so we can finish development for Season 2 in a healthy and sustainable way for our team.

Importantly, with the Season 1 extension, we aren’t just stretching-out our original Season 1 plan. Indeed, we took this opportunity to add additional events, customization items and other content to Season 1 to make it an even richer experience from start to finish. For example, starting today and through the first week, you can log-in to Halo Infinite to unlock a free collection of 20th anniversary themed cosmetics. Following this free reward period, the start of our Season 1 opening event, “Fracture: Tenrai”, will kick off on November 23. This will be your first of multiple opportunities to earn Season 1’s samurai-themed armor pieces and other customization items.”

Halo Infinite’s First season, Titled “Heroes Of Reach ” features free and premium tiers of the Season Pass offering over 100 unlockable items, including armour pieces, weapon charms, visors, coatings, emblems and armour FX. Look, you have all seen a battle pass before, we have all played fortnite or Apex, we know what this is at this point.

Although, that said, as a major departure from formula, Microsoft have confirmed that season passes are less like the “3 months to get everything then its gone” situation like in other games, and more like a mini DLC drop every 3 months that players can work through. Passes wont expire, and you will be able to purchase previous seasons passes and choose what pass your progress goes towards.

According to Valve, The steam version of Infinites multiplayer has already attracted over 150,000 players,  a significant number that Maybe contributed to some of the day 1 issues the game has been experiencing.

Some players have been encountering a “blue screen download problem” when attempting to access the game, although Community director Brian Jarred has said these issues should not be “mostly resolved.”

As part of the lead up to Halo infinite, Microsoft and 343 Industries have been releasing a number of short films as part of the “UNSC Archives” series, which are designed to dive into the games lore and explain some things for new and returning players. Having already Covered the Spartan Armours Energy Shield and the grapple shot that is being added in Infinite, the Newest video, called “Light bringers”, Covers Master Chiefs Iconic Mjolnir Armour.

More so, the video is about the Ore that is used in the armours exoskeleton, and how miners continued to work to extract the material from a UNSC mining site even while the covenant where attacking, threatening to destroy the whole mine. Check out the trailer here:

Further more, plenty of details on halo infinites single player campaign and multiplayer have come out this week, including the Full details of its first battle pass, the reveal of a key antagonist for the game, and much more. By all original metrics Halo infinite should have been out a year ago at this point, as a launch title for the Xbox Series X/S. However after some worries regarding the games original trailer Microsoft elected to delay the game until 2021. The game is now set to launch on december 8th and will be available to owners of the Xbox game pass on Xbox and on PC.

However recent rumors seem to suggest that the multiplayer portion of the game could launch as soon as this monday.

The Rumor comes from two leakers on twitter,  @halodotapi and @Surasia4. Halodotapi was first, posting the official image that microsoft used to promote the multiplayer with the caption “Heros of Reach – november 15 2021”, and later replied to Xbox Directly With the line “infinite next week”. Halodotapi have also promised to give $100 to a random follower if they are wrong.

November 15th is the 20th anniversary of the launch of HALO Combat Evolved, so seeing something halo related arround that time wouldnt be unlikely, and given that some games journalists recently got a hands on preview of the multiplayer it would be safe to say that the mode is “ready to ship”. However on a personal level I feel a pre-mature release is unlikely.

Microsoft is holding a special broadcast on the 15th, which if this is true may mean that they use the launch of the multiplayer to cap-off the stream.
