Go2Games Interview – Nathan Hawthorne

We’re catching up with artist Nathan Hawthorne, after MCM Comic Con London last weekend, to see how he found the convention and how his wonderful work went down!

1) Hi there Nathan!  It was great to see you at your stall over the weekend. How did you find Comic Con?

It was fantastic! probably the best one I’ve been to. I loved the new layout, and it worked well for the sheer amount of different exhibitors and artists, and of course all the amazing cosplayers.

2) What would you say was your favourite part of the weekend?

I would have to say I had two favourite parts. One was seeing all the cosplayers and their amazing creations, and the other is definitely chatting with different people of all different tastes, interests and experiences throughout the day!

3) Did you manage to see any of the other artists’ work? If so, whose did you enjoy the most?

 I didn’t have my usual helpers so I didn’t get out and about except for before sessions unfortunately. But from what I did see, I liked the look of Gyzra ink, Anaseed man and Kirucomics’s work.

4) Did you find that there was a lot of interest in your work?

I’d like to think there was a good amount of interest since a lot of people came by and had a look and a chat. But at the same time I acknowledge that my work isn’t to everyone’s taste – we’re all different in the end!

5) Was there a certain piece of yours that grabbed attention?

Forbidden fruits and Flying with Wales, were popular posters/postcards. Even I’ve got one of each up on my wall!  Hopefully I can keep building on my skills and make something even better for next time.

6) How did you find the overall atmosphere of the weekend?

An excellent, easy going atmosphere, and everyone I spoke to was really friendly – and that includes you lovely people at Go2Games who passed by to say hi!

7) Are you excited for the next Comic Con convention?

Extremely. My next convention this size should be the October MCM Comic Con. I’ll be releasing Arksong chapter 3 either before or at that convention, so I’ll be looking forward to sharing and discussing it with new and old readers. If you missed out on a chance to get something from my table at the convention, my comics and posters as well as some other merchandise are available at my online store:

Our MCM Comic Con London #GO2GAMER Wrist Band Competition UPDATE

As you may well know, we held a competition over the course of Comic Con London last weekend, and it’s still going strong!

The aim of the game was to come over to our stall, grab a #GO2GAMER wrist band, take a photo of yourself, and pop it up on any of our social platforms, and not forgetting to tag us in them! We’ve had loads of entries and are there are still more of you who haven’t yet posted your photos up, so this is a reminder to you all!

The winner is to be announced on Monday 1st June (this coming Monday), and the lucky one will be in with the chance of winning a PS4 or Xbox One!! Lucky so and so… You can also email your photo to us, if you aren’t on any social platforms, at social@go2games.com or, alternatively, info@go2games.com

MCM Comic Con London 2015

We were a busy bunch last weekend at London Comic Con! Darting about and snapping cosplayers and the amazing general atmosphere and stalls. We had queues of people all dressed up at our photo booth, just waiting to be shot (by the camera, of course). Here are a few of the best of the best that we managed to grab. MCM Comic Con London 2015

So we had an awesome run this weekend at Comic Con, and we hope you did too?!

Hello all! And welcome to our gaming eden! As you all should know, we have been working very hard and retailing at our Go2Games store at MCM Comic Con London 2015! We’ve seen many faces and characters grace our photo booth within the weekend, so watch this space for the most amazing show unearthed.

We are Go2Games, and our aim is to make you love the game even more! This weekend just gone, we’ve been moseying about at MCM Comic Con London, but that’s just the start! We’ve been selling mass amounts of awesome products, from control grips to Transformers lights and Pac-Man bottle openers! 

We had an absolutely fantastic time and we hope you did too?! We also ran a competition to win a PS4/Xbox One, if you managed to grab a wrist band from our stand and take a photo of yourself with it! If you did so, then don’t forget to send the photos back to us on our social media channels to be in with a chance of winning!

Our photo booth was also a huge hit! We had cosplayers queuing up to have their photograph taken by our media team and boy are the shots amazing!! They’ll be popped up throughout this week, so don’t forget to keep an eye open for them and tag yourself if you recognise yourself, or a friend! They’ll be up on our social media channels.

Costumes were incredible, the dealer stalls were amazing, and so were all the talented artists in Comic Village! We were lucky enough to interview a few ahead of the show, one being Simeon (Metal Made Flesh). He came over to our stand to greet us and very kindly gave us one of his artbooks!! We were ecstatic to receive his gift, as Simeon’s artwork is out of this world, literally.. A Cyberpunk Extraordinaire! 

What more can we say, except that we had an incredibly successful event ourselves and that the whole atmosphere and event was one to be marvelled at and remembered for years to come. Thank you to everyone who made it such a success and we’ll hopefully be seeing you all for the next one! Don’t forget to keep in touch and, always, GET2GAMING!

Go2Games.com’s MCM London Comic Con Contest

The winners are announced!

As you all know, us here at Go2Games have been running a competition in which X2 pairs of FULL WEEKEND PRIORITY TICKETS were up for grabs for this weekend’s London Comic Con at the London ExCel Centre. Contestants simply had to pick any of our products, which we sell online, and write a unique review about them. We even had to extend the competition to an extra day due to popular demand!

Brogan Coral

Brogan is one artist who we truly love the work of! She will also be showcasing her incredible work this weekend in Comic Village, at MCM Comic Con London. Go2Games managed to snap Brogan up ahead of the event for a quick interview!…

1) Tell us a little about yourself, Brogan!
My name is Brogan and I’m from Manchester in the north west of England! I go under Brogan Coral for my illustration work. I went to university to study illustration, and since graduating I’ve been self publishing my own little comics and making a bunch of other things that I sell at comic conventions all around the country and online

2) When did you enter the world of art and what inspired you?
My introduction to the art world was actually significantly influenced by video games! When I was about 10 I got a Dreamcast for christmas, and one of the games I got with it was Sonic Adventure. I absolutely loved it at the time and it inspired me to start creating my own characters and drawing the characters from the game. I sometimes look back at the stuff I drew back then and it’s unsurprisingly cringe inducing, but every artist has to start somewhere!

3) Have you showcased your artwork at other events?
Yep, my first convention I exhibited at was Thought Bubble comics festival in 2012, and since then I’ve been to various other conventions around the country. Most of them are the MCM comic cons!

4) Do you have a favourite artist?
This is always a really hard question for any artist, I think! But if I had to narrow it down to just one, I’d have to say Junko Mizuno. Her art has that cute colourful look to it, but it’s also quite twisted and dark at the same time. She has done a series of manga based on her own twisted version of fairy tales which I love!

5) Are you a gamer at all and, if so, what are your top three favourite games?
Yep! My top favourites are really hard to choose, but here goes!
– Dark Souls (I adore the atmosphere, designs, and the unforgiving with highly rewarding gameplay)
– Jak 2 (I absolutely love the character designs and gameplay)
– Sonic Adventure 2 (For pure nostalgia!)

6) PS4 or Xbox One?!
I’d have to say PS4, as that’s the one that I play the most! (Thanks to the ridiculous amount of hours I’ve spent on FFXIV…)

7) Will we expect to see you at Comic Con in the future?
Certainly! You can find me at table CL13 in the Comic Village in the upcoming London MCM. I will also be at Manchester MCM in July, and a bunch of other conventions. Feel free to check out my Tumblr for a full list!

All you need to know for the big weekend!

MCM Comic Con London is a huge convention, and we understand that questions like “what do I see first”, “what can I expect to be going on?” are on most people’s minds! There is a ton of stuff to see and do, and pretty much something for everyone. We’ll be there too! Here is a break-down of what the convention has to offer…

Comic Village

Stroll on over to Comic Village for your fix of all things comic book related! Whether you’re an artist, writer, illustrator, or just a fan, there is so much to see here. We’ve been interviewing a few artists who’re showcasing their work here, so you can check their work out on our blog and see what they’ve been up to! Some of the best of the best will be there, including Robert Franklin and Kit Cox, and there’ll be panels holding Q&As for you to get to know more about your favourite artists! This will be going on for the whole weekend, so fear not!

Games at MCM

Another all-weekender here! A whole host of game developers will be around for the weekend, showcasing their latest and greatest creations to their eager fans. We’ll also expect to see a group of indie game developers too, in the Go Indie Games! area. The likes of Bandai Namco, Warner Bros., Koei Tecmo, Koch Media, NIS America, and Idea Factory International will be there. You’ll have Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, Farming Simulator 2015, and a host of other gaming delights to marvel at!

MCM eSports

It’s back and bigger than ever! Now with it’s very first MCM eSports Battle Arena with an 800 seat capacity, you can watch the very best competitors battle it out on League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for the ESL UK Premiership title. Here is the event schedule…

EuroCosplay Championships

We’ll we’re very much looking forward to this! The EuroCosplay Championships aim to strengthen the cosplay community in Europe, and to encourage it to others. It is organised by cosplayers and MCM. Professional cosplayers in Europe are selected as judges and will inspect the participants’ costumes over the weekend, to ensure detail and accuracy. Almost 30 countries are taking part! You can expect to see this all going on this Saturday 23rd May, and the final will be held at the following London Comic Con this 24th October 2015.

Cosplay & Masquerade

This is always heaps of fun! You’ll get to see some of your favourite characters come to life in the MCM Cosplay Masquerade! Enjoy a range of poses, dances, songs, and more, in this extravaganza on Saturday 23rd May. One winner will be chosen, and they will be entered into the EuroCosplay Championships to represent the UK! Definitely worth sticking around for.

MCM Fringe Festival

This will be going on all weekend and there is so much to see and do here! With meets, plays, gatherings, shoots, and much more, there’ll never be a dull moment here. You can view the full list of timings on MCM’s Official Site.

MCM Dealer Stalls

The ExCel Centre will be full to the brim with dealer stalls and lots of incredible things for you to buy. There is something for everyone here and, of course, we’ll be retailing ourselves, so come on over and say hello! From fun t-shirts to cosplay, and artwork to weaponry, you won’t be leaving the convention empty handed!

VidFest UK

All things video related going on here! YouTube, Vine, vlogging, animation, music, sketches, comedy, live streaming and much more are available to you here. VidFest UK are pushing all of the channels in world of video and exposing the way it has all changed over the years. For the full list of timings, head on over to MCM’s Official Site.

Go2Games meets Simeon Aston!

Simeon Aston is the creator and illustrator of the Cyberpunk stories, Metal Made Felsh (MMF), and he’ll be gracing MCM Comic Con London this weekend with his incredible artwork, in Comic Village! We were lucky enough to have a chat with Simeon ahead of the convention, and here is everything you need to know about Simeon, his artwork, and gaming…

So..

I’ve been working as a freelance artist for around 10 years .

Early influences were concept artists Ralph Mcquarrie, H.R Giger (favourite artist), also Syd Mead and Mobius..

Movies – Bladerunner (My all time favourite), I also love  ‘Alien,Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones and Big Trouble in Little China.

My work is also heavily inspired by Japanese Anime – Ghost in the shell, Akira and Ninja scroll.

So naturally my work has an old-school retro feel to it. Most of the people I talk to at conventions who love my work have the same tastes in movies and art.

I’ve been showcasing MMF in London for about 4 years mostly at MCM and LFCC.

I’ve been a PlayStation gamer since PS1.

I’m currently playing Battlefield: Hardline with my online crew. Best game this year for me has to be Alien Isolation

Top three games.. That’s a hard one since I’ve been gaming for decades, but three games that spring to mind are..

Metal gear solid 3, GTA 4 ,and Mass effect 2.

so ye, I’m gonna be at most big conventions in London for the rest of the year promoting MMF as we move into phase 2 of the story, and expand the universe me and Jeremy have created.
