Activision’s biggest franchise is already garnering hype as they return to the Modern Warfare series with the supposed date for their trailer, alpha test and possible release date being leaked!

Well, it’s the time of year again! the Call of Duty hype train arrives with many ready for a big improvement after the failures of the two previous titles, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard. As many have fallen out of favour with the FPS genre Activision and Infinity Ward are hoping to turn their fortunes around with the sequel to the highly successful Modern Warfare (released in 2019).

On April 28th, Infinity Ward revealed to the world the logo for the upcoming title and had fans wanting more information.

They’re reports suggesting that some snippets and teasers of the game could be revealed as soon as the 2nd June, this has surprised many because fans thought they would expect to wait until Summer Game Fest 2022 which starts the following week (10th June) for all the information. Following the teasers a suspected official reveal trailer will arrive on the 8th June with huge details on the games campaign being revealed at the Summer Game Fest. Great news for fans as we are not that far away from news coming our way.

As we power through the summer of games being revealed and release dates being pushed back, game developers will need you to turn that console on and test their games out for them with public Alpha and Beta tests. The Call of Duty Franchise have always had tests to make sure their game is full functioning before release, rumours are that a possible Alpha test for Modern Warfare 2 could be dropping mid-August. For the last 5 years PlayStation have had a contract with Activision where the platform will get new and exclusive content before the competitors and that will continue up until 2023, so if you are on the PlayStation 5 you could get your hands on Modern Warfare 2 before anyone else. But for Xbox gamers don’t be down because you will also get your hands on the tests possibly weeks after Sony players and with Microsoft’s gigantic acquisition of Activision for $68 million, Call of Duty’s exclusivity contract will probably be on the Xbox platform after 2023.

The reported release date for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is October 2022.

No news if Infinity Ward will continue to release their games on the old generation consoles with Xbox One and PS4 players increasingly worried on the silence from Activision’s side of things. Lastly, the big blockbuster game mode Warzone that kept us all enthralled through the last couple of years could be getting a sequel following the games release. The latest rumour is that Warzone 2 could be releasing late 2022 or most likely early 2023.

Reports from VGC partially verify a morality system for the upcoming Modern Warfare sequel in the Call of Duty games.

For the blessedly uninitiated, here’s how morality systems in most games work:

1. Play up to X story moment highlighted with a cuscene in-game.
2. At a point in the story, you can make 2 or more choices which lead to such moral complexities from becoming the patron saint of orphan puppies to becoming a dark f*ck prince of the bowels of hell.

Most of these choices in terms of AAA developers are purely cosmetic or just manifest in a couple of small ways, but there are some games that do the mechanic justice. Detroit: Become Human may be about as nuanced in its “commentary” on civil rights as a hyperactive Zebra in clown makeup and polka-dot Afro, but the HUGE variety of endings and choices available with large-scale tangible effects on the plot are nothing to smirk at. Heck, maybe one of those 80+ endings has a version of the story that’s actually good! Until Dawn also does an interesting thing by having the biggest plot points play out similarly, but by accounting for different character interaction combinations depending on who lives or dies, you get a lot of replay value from accidentally or “accidentally” killing off different characters to see what they say differently.

BACK TO THE NEWS: The campaign for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is said to be “gritty and unrelenting”, supposedly taking inspiration from films like No Country for Old Men, Sicario and Traffic. Haven’t seen that last one, but while we’re talking cinema, go watch Duel if you haven’t already! It’s basically “What If Jaws, but a monster truck and Hitchcockian-level ball-squeezingly intense suspense throughout”.

VGC previously claimed that Infinity Ward‘s upcoming Modern Warfare Sequel would include a storyline around battling the Colombian drug cartel, so that checks out based on the parallels to Sicario and No Country for Old Men. On a similar note, my favorite euphemism for a drug is “Colombian Marching Powder”, just so colorfully vivid.

Modern Warfare’s morality system is also claimed to have similarities to the ‘honor system’ from Zuko’s redemption ar- I mean Red Dead Redemption 2! To summarise: If you do enough good stuff, then you get access to all the good stuff, but if you do too much bad stuff, then no one will sell to you ever.

There’s also rumblings of a focus on hyper-realistic gore, claiming that disarmed enemies (as in, unarmed, but in the literal bodily way, not in the “I thought this plastic nerf toy was a real gun and therefore have complete immunity” kinda way) will “put pressure on their wounds in an attempt to stop the bleeding”. Not sure what kinda Metal Gear Rising Revengeance mumbo jumbo they’ll do to make gun-based dismemberment a thing, but I’m oddly intrigued.

“During high-intensity moments, your character will react accordingly. Throughout an ambush sequence where your patrol vehicle is under attack from hostile fire, the character you’re playing as is visibly shaken up: struggling to insert the magazine, trembling hands”

Yesterday saw the reveal of the massively anticipated next Call of Duty game. For the past week or so there have been some strong rumours that the next Call of Duty game was going to be called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, these rumours have now been confirmed as fact by Infinity Ward.

Not only did we get a trailer for the new Call of Duty game along with some information about the game, but Infinity Ward also confirmed one other major rumour that was circling the internet last week. That’s right, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is returning. The announcement of Modern Warfare’s return possibly gained more traction and attention than the reveal of Infinite Warfare as fans of Call of Duty have been calling for one of the Modern Warfare games to be remastered for next-gen consoles.

In the trailer for Infinite Warfare, we can see that the rumours of the game being heavily based in space were true. Many of the older Call of Duty fans are disappointed about the fact that the game is in space, that’s why remastering Modern Warfare was a very important decision that Infinity Ward had to make. Infinity Ward has been very clever with Modern Warfare as it can only be played if you have bought the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare. I can only imagine that Infinity Ward realised that the game wouldn’t do so well after the widely poor reviews of Advanced Warfare so decided to include a fan favourite to help drive up sales of the upcoming Call of Duty game.

Although the game is very different to anything Infinity Ward has released before, I’m sure it will still be a very good game and lots of fun. The big question now is which of the two games will have the larger fan base?

Yesterday, we brought you the news that the title of the next Call of Duty game could be called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Since then even more rumours have come out about what will be in store with the next Call of Duty game.

A poster of the possible box art for the new game has appeared online. It doesn’t look like the most professional box art in the world and many people believe that it is fake. But the box art for the game isn’t the main attraction about this photo. Above the box art it has a banner which says that the game also includes Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered. This is huge, one of the most popular Call of Duty games could be returning as a remastered game.

The box art does look very sloppy however so many people have doubted whether Modern Warfare will return as a remastered game. Although it would be an incredibly popular addition to bring to the next Call of Duty game.

If the box art wasn’t enough to make you believe then we have more. Yesterday, Infinity Ward tweeted ‘Stay Frosty’ which is probably the studios most famous catchphrase. Infinity Ward are the studio that brought us Modern Warfare and after the huge popularity of it you can see why they would remaster the game.

If even that wasn’t enough then check out this tweet that the official Call of Duty account replied to yesterday. They are just adding fuel to the fire with the huge rumours that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be returning and introduced onto next-gen consoles.

Last year, Microsoft announced that they will be bringing some Xbox 360 favourites to the Xbox One. They made a poll to ask Xbox users what games they would like to see return, but as of yet there has been no sign of any of the highest voted games. Microsoft has brought out a huge range of games to the Xbox One that are Xbox 360 games, but we’re still waiting for a huge game like a Call of Duty or Red Dead Redemption.

Yesterday there was a leak onto the Xbox One store, some users could see one of the most popular Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One store. That’s right, it was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2 was one of the most played games on the Xbox 360 and arguably the best Call of Duty game. Although it was visible on the store for a short time, it wasn’t downloadable and eventually removed. This surely means that Microsoft is preparing to bring the game onto the Xbox One very, very soon. However at this stage it is clearly not ready. I don’t think it is far away at all!

The poll that Microsoft put out was voted on by Xbox users all over the world, giving a very diverse response and a varied opinion on what games users would like to see return. Unsurprisingly Call of Duty stole the show, amongst the top ten were six Call of Duty games.

The major plus side to making the Call of Duty games available on next-gen consoles is that you will get much more players on these games. Users will have sold their old consoles or packed them away and are not able to play these games without buying an Xbox 360, so backwards compatibility is a great idea.

I would love to see all of the old Call of Duty games come to the Xbox One. I feel that they were the better Call of Duty games as the most recent games have ventured slightly away from what Call of Duty is really about. Modern Warfare 2 was without a doubt my favourite Call of Duty and the sooner they bring it out onto the Xbox One, the better.

The original Modern Warfare or Black Ops on the PS4 and Xbox One, just imagine!

Remasters have become sort of a trend recently and in a interview with Game Informer, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg gave his thoughts on the subject, as well as discussing the idea of bringing the original Call of Duty’s to the PS4 and Xbox One. Hirshberg’s thoughts on remasters, “If done well I think remasters can be great. You talk about nostalgia, and people have such connection to the games they love from the last cycle. They want to see what it would look like if someone did it right for this cycle.”

When going on to discuss the possibility of a remastered Call of Duty title, Hirshberg said, “We need everybody we can get to make the content we’re already committed to for our new games. It’s always a matter of finding great people to do that work. I would love to play Modern Warfare 1 or the original Black Ops. There’s certainly a deep well there. No announcements, but it’s something we talk about and think about a lot.”

An old school Call of Duty title on the new consoles would be the dream in all fairness.
