Last week, Netflix made its new game selection available to all subscribers with access to an Android platform. Starting today at 6pm GMT, iPhone / iPad users will be able to join in on the action as well.

In the Netflix app, you will see a dedicated row for games, from which you can choose what you want to download. The iPad app will allow you to select the games category from a dropdown menu, too.

Thanks to Apple‘s policies in regards to the App Store, the process will work slightly differently from its Android counterpart. The main Netflix app will still provide access to the games library, but the games will launch as a separate app.

Once the app opens, you’ll have to authenticate your Netflix account. Then you’re all set to game!

The games coming to iOS are the same ones that launched on Android, including Shooting Hoops, Teeter Up and Card Blast. Additionally, there are two Stranger Things titles: Stranger Things 1984 and Stranger Things 3.

The next game heading to the platform will supposedly be a League of Legends rhythm game called ‘Hextech Mayhem’. It will launch on November 16th for Nintendo Switch and PC, and should join Netflix at a later date.

Though the new service’s catalogue is very small at the moment, it’s available to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost (and who doesn’t have Netflix in this day and age? Even if you’re squatting on a friend’s account).

Netflix has announced it will start rolling out its gaming service globally from today

The time has officially come for Netflix to launch its gaming service, Netflix Games, worldwide!

After months of the first unexpected, yet highly-intriguing announcement, Netflix is officially rolling out the gaming service for Android users from today and will give subscribers something to enjoy out of the selection of games already available on offer.

Netflix Games

Netflix Games was first announced back in July when it was still in the “early stages” and also stated it would be focusing its games on mobile devices. It then became more established in August when it announced its first video games, Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3, for exclusive testing in Poland only.

The video streaming company then added three more games to test on a wider scale, Shooting Hoops, Teeter (Up), and Card Blast, in September, and it is these five games that are now available to play on a global scale.

Netflix Games is currently on Android only and is available to current subscribers at no extra cost. Netflix has also stated all the games will be free of ads, additional costs, and in-app purchases.

All titles can be found under the Games tab in Netflix’s mobile app for Android, but must first be downloaded via the Google Play Store.

iOS users can expect the Games tab soon, and Netflix promises more games are on the way. The company has already acquired its first developer, Night School Studio, so we can certainly expect a lot of great games along the way.

What kind of games do you want to see being published by Netflix? Would you want the streaming service to offer a multiverse of its shows in mobile games format, or try something completely different? Let us know in the comment section!

🎮📱 Let the Games Begin📱🎮

Tomorrow, Netflix Games will start rolling out on the Netflix mobile app. First on Android, with iOS on the way.

It’s early days, but we’re excited to start bringing you exclusive games, with no ads, no additional fees and no in-app purchases. pic.twitter.com/ofNGF4b8At

Games that Oddly Capture the essence of ‘Squid Game’

The hit Netflix Series ‘Squid Game’ is becoming increasingly popular. Not all the games that are dark, sinister, bloody and battle royale are like Squid Game. There are many light-hearted games that oddly enough, can come across that weird Squid Game spectrum. They may not be the same style, but they definitely have that dark undertone we’re looking for. We’ve mentioned some Must-play for Squid Game fans here and the relation to Fall Guys there, but these are just a few more to pique your interest.

1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Hear me out. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is nothing but fun and games, driving in beautiful, fun-filled, crazy race tracks, but there’s a massive downside to Mario Kart 8 deluxe, or should I say dark side? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe includes painful and violent attacks such as getting hit by fireballs, bombs, blue shell bombs, haunted by ghosts, falling off dangerous edges, crushed by massive thwomps…it all sounds like a nightmare in reality. Fair enough, you have Latiku to save you from massive falls, but what about the rest of the pain? After one or two races, most people would want the nightmare to end and all of that…just to win a gold trophy? Sounds pretty sinister to us.

2. Animal Crossing New Horizons

“How? They’re just adorable animal villagers you can live with on a beautiful island…” Well, I’m about to ruin your childhood. If you’re unaware there is a massive trading ‘business’ over the Animal Crossing Community through Facebook, Twitter, Discord and an app called Nookazon. Players will steal, lie and charge millions of in-game bells for a particular villager or item…some even charge real money for specific items on social media or eBay. Oh, but it gets darker than that.

The Animal Crossing New Horizons Discord is a wonderful place for players to get creative, happily trade and have fun with island visits…but there are a few that put their beloved villagers up for sale or even host a GAME SHOW where the winner can obtain the villager of their liking, which is typically Raymond, the new smug cat villager.

If you look at it from a certain angle, it can get pretty dark…that can almost be seen as villager trafficking. The poor villagers abducted from their homes were unknowingly sold or placed up as a prize. Don’t believe me? Check this video out.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

3. Mario Party Superstars

Mario Party….we’ve all seen the Mario Party and Squid Game meme and it’s been mentioned in this previous blog. It’s known quite well now across the gaming community, but no one is talking about Superstars…While it’s essentially the same thing, there are old GameCube boards and Mario Party is now accessible for handheld Nintendo Switch Players, aka those who own a Nintendo Switch Lite. This means more players, more deaths and more viscous neverending cycles for Mario and his friends. Constantly respawning after falling into a fiery pit, off a large cliff, being yeeted out of existence. It’s pretty brutal if you ask me… Want the Super Mario Party for the Nintendo Switch? Click here.

The hit streaming service started its gaming venture earlier this year and have now acquired its first video game developer…

Netflix has now acquired its first video game developer as it continues to expand its platform into the video game industry by acquiring Night School Studio.

Night School Studio is an independent video game developer and publisher, founded in 2014 by Sean Krankel and Adam Hines. The developer is known for its supernatural mystery graphic adventure game, Oxenfree, which was first released in 2016.

Netflix x Night School Studio

Netflix acquiring NIght School Studio has confirmed the streaming service’s platform intention to join the ranks of other companies that are expanding into the gaming world and boosting their platform into something bigger. And if you were worried about Night School Studio already planned projects, fear not as the company explained all.

Night School Studio made the announcement in a statement on their website, clarifying what the acquisition means for the company and its future.

Night School wants to stretch our narrative and design aspirations across distinctive, original games with heart. Netflix gives film, TV, and now game makers an unprecedented canvas to create and deliver excellent entertainment to millions of people. Our explorations in narrative gameplay and Netflix’s track record of supporting diverse storytellers was such a natural pairing. It felt like both teams came to this conclusion instinctively. – Sean Krankel, CEO of Night School Studio.

Night School Studio also confirmed that it will still be going ahead with Oxenfree II: Lost Signals, which was announced back in April, so fans of the series don’t have to worry. Krankel also stated that “the Netflix team has shown the utmost care for protecting our studio culture and creative vision”, thus nothing will go through an immense change during the acquisition.

In other news, Netflix has also started to expand its mobile gaming platform as two more countries are added to the list of where it is available. It was first released in Poland but now Spain and Italy have received the selection of Andriod titles.

The rollout continues! Today members in Spain and Italy will see Netflix Games available on their Android phones. We’re still in the early stages of our gaming experience, however here’s a snapshot of what’s new… pic.twitter.com/LHaQJmCBvn

At the moment there are only five games to choose from: Shooting Hoops, Card Blast, Teeter Up, Stranger Things: 1984, and Stranger Things 3. Subscribers can install these titles as part of their normal subscription.

We are still anticipatingly waiting for the games to be available in the U.K. as well as Netflix’s VR Gaming expansion.
