Graphic card-making company Nvidia was recently hacked by a Ransomware group that stole data, resulting in the company’s brief temporary closing.

In addition, parts of Nvidia have been ‘compromised’ due to coinciding with Russia’s own cyber warfare in addition to it’s… You know… Let’s just say the only Crazy Russian Hacker you’ll find me praising is this guy!

On the bright side, the group that hacked Nvidia has found itself getting hacked back in a fitting Karmic twist of fate. The attack is still being investigated.

Whodunnit? And more importantly, Whydunnit? Wouldn’t you like to know! Though I can’t be too mean, that’s something we have in common. The Ransomware group ‘Lapsus’ who claimed responsibility for hacking Nvidia, has posted screenshots threatening to release proprietary source code and directory listings, holding that information at a… Ransom (roll credits).

Nvidia hasn’t confirmed if it was behind the counter-hacking of Lapsus, though that hasn’t stopped them from accusing the company of being responsible.

What’s next? Well, there are optimistic and pessimistic likely outcomes to this. On the one hand, a similar cyber attack on Nvidia’s GeForce has seemingly confirmed a number of new games in development (or at the very least seemingly so). On the other hand, hacking groups like this have also caused company shut-downs (as was the case with Koei Tecmo). I’m leaning towards the positive end of the spectrum here, but time will tell.

A new update has been released for Horizon Zero dawn on PC, which has added support for NVidia and AMD’s Ai upscaling tech. The version 1.11 patch includes support for NVidia DLSS Upscaling and AMD Fidelity FX Super Resolution, as well as fixing a couple of bugs and tweaking a few things, including the game’s shader management system. Developer Guerilla Games Claims that this will reduce stutters during gameplay.
You can only use DLSS or Fidelity if you have a NVidia or AMD graphics card respectively. They work by using AI to upscale the resolution of PC games, allowing players to reach higher levels of graphical Fidelity while maintaining framerates.

Guerrilla Games said earlier this year that they would be offering fewer updates to the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn as it shifts more resources to the games Sequel, Horizon Forbidden west.

GRAPHICAL IMPROVEMENTS

• • Added Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology.
  • Added AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, replacing FidelityFX CAS.

UI CHANGES

• • Adjusted settings screen to facilitate the addition of DLSS and FSR.
    • Render Scale option has been removed but same result can now be accomplished by adjusting setting Upscale Method to Simple and adjusting Upscale Quality.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS

• • Improvement to the shader management system. This will result in a few noticeable differences:
    • There is no longer a shader pre-compilation step on startup. The game will always compile shaders during loading and in the background.
    • Stutters during gameplay that used to occur due to background shader compilation have now been significantly reduced.
    • Because shader compilation is still happening in the background you may notice the game having a higher CPU utilization while that is happening.
    • Loading screens will wait for the required shaders to be fully compiled. This may cause loading screens to take somewhat longer on certain systems.
    • On higher spec machines with faster CPUs the loading screens will typically be shorter, due to more efficient shader compilation that better leverages high-end CPUs.

Nvidia has released the latest version of its AI texture upscaling Program “DLSS” (Deep Learning Super Sampling). The Program is available for everyone, and works through the use of motion Vectors. DLSS upscales textures and images to make you game look better than it technically is.

On instance provided of the tech in action by PCINVASIONS was of it at work in Cyberpunk 2077, where it helps sharpen the edge of the windmirros.

I mean… Look, personally I don’t see this. The tech is cool, don’t get me wrong, and if you are a major graphics gamer then this is probably really exciting. But on a personal level, I have only just got around to Playing Halo CE In the last month, a game that is now 2 decades old. And I play on the old graphics because I find the Anniversary look ugly. This tech is 100% not marketed at me.

How DLSS 2.3 Works

To achieve what it does, DLSS takes Upwards of 6,000,000 Pixels from the current in-game-frame and the previous frames. The pixels then pass through the developed AI Tensor Core Network to determine the information for the frames that can be rused to create Higher Quality images. This, obviously, leads to smoother images, Improvement in framerates and a more immersive experience.

Alongside the launch of the tech, 10 games are receiving support for it. In total 16 games now support DLSS 2.3, and more are on their way down the Line. the currently supported games are:

• Bright Memory: Infinite
• Crysis 2 Remastered
• Crysis 3 Remastered
• Cyberpunk 2077
• Deathloop
• DOOM Eternal
• Grand Theft Auto III – Definitive Edition

DLSS has integrations in both Unity and Unreal Engine, Allowing Developers Access to the softwar Development Kit Easier than before. Nvidia hopes that this leads to every studio eventually adopting the technology. The DLSS Driver is available for anyone using a NVidia RTX GPU (Sad 1060 Noises) via the companies website, or through the GeForce Experience Software.

Nvidia partners with EA for developing the PC port of Battlefield 2042!

(Psst, get your pre-order bonuses or any other Battlefield games at our store folks. Heck, maybe get in on the Elden Ring extras while you’re around).

This collaboration on the PC port of the game will see many PC-specific upgrades that are beneficial to those with video cards. The PC Battlefield 2042 game will also be compatible with Nvidia Reflex, a feature that allows for greater responsiveness and option adjustments for mouse aiming. A segment from a recent statement Nvidia made reads as follows:

‘PC gamers will get a Battlefield 2042 experience like no other, because a PC allows you to enjoy higher detail levels, uncapped frame rates, and gameplay enhanced by variable refresh rate G-SYNC monitors, TVs and displays’.

‘Graphics on a PC are next-level with ray-traced ambient occlusion (available only on PC), and GeForce RTX-based PCs have dedicated RT cores to deliver excellent ray tracing performance’.

Other related tidbits on Battlefield 2042 include and are not limited to:

• First non-binary character in the franchise? Hell yeah!
• Fixing issues covered in a recent open beta test? Hell yeah!
• Various multiplayer funtimes including a Hazard Zone mode? Hell yeah!
• Being an online-exclusive game with no offline single player modes or story campaign?… No.

In addition, while all other versions of Battlefield 2042 will see big boi numbers of 128-player large matches, the PlayStation 4 version will be capped at 64 players with smaller versions of in-game maps (the latter could be an upside if you get lost easily though).

As of September, the game is set to release November 19th, with pre-orders for the Gold and Ultimate Editions receiving the game a week early according to EA.

Battlefield 2042 will be coming to PC as well as Xbox and Playstation consoles. Furthermore, EA DICE confirmed some features missing in the Beta will be smooshed into the game on release.

Nvidia’s GeForce Now service will soon be playable on Xbox consoles with a brand new update

Xbox players will be able to stream their PC games to their consoles, using Edge. This is due to the latest GeForce Now client, which rolled out to users on October 21, and follows a very substantial leak of various titles, such as God of War.

The service, which includes beta support for the Microsoft Edge browser, has claims from Nvidia stating that it can outperform an Xbox Series X with extremely low latency.

This could potentially offer another avenue for Xbox players to play games that have yet to arrive on the platform, such as Death Stranding, a PlayStation exclusive.

The prior update to Xbox’s Edge browser within September 2021, saw users able to play games via Google’s Stadia platform through the Edge browser on Xbox consoles. That also introduced two new ways that displayed PC and Xbox compatibility with the ability to play games remotely. Following the latest updates to the Xbox app, Windows 10 PC users can stream Xbox Game Pass titles from the cloud and stream games from their home consoles.

Microsoft has also enabled remote play in the Xbox app, enabling users allow PCs to stream Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One content.

This means there’s many options, and a lot of new ways to gain greater accessibility to different kinds of content.
