EA Sports has released a deep dive on what fans can expect with FIFA Ultimate Team 22 and it includes some controversial modes coming back

As the release of FIFA 22 fast approaches, EA Sports has released “pitch notes” of what fans can expect for the game, especially the FIFA Ultimate Team mode.

The best-selling football video game added the Ultimate Team (FUT) mode back in FIFA 21 and enables players to build teams by using any players from any league, to play offline and online and to win coins to buy better players or loot boxes that contain a random selection of players. It received a lot of controversy from fans as players and even received a ban in some countries as it was considered akin to gambling, since it requires real money to purchase virtual currency, yet they are coming back with some major improvements, along with some new additions.

FIFA Ultimate Team 22

EA will be sticking to having loot boxes available to purchase, however, the mode will now include preview packs. This means players will be able to see what is inside the loot boxes and decide whether they want to purchase or not. It was trailed in the summer on FIFA 21 and has had significant improvements, as well as increase the chance of players purchasing the packs as they like to know what they’re getting. If a player chooses not to purchase the preview pack shown, they just have to wait for the refresh timer to end to preview a pack of the same type.

EA have also announced they will be releasing a FUT Companion App that will launch on PC and Mobile on September 22 and September 23 respectively. This will allow players to access the FUT Transfer Market where they can buy and sell players and consumables, manage their squad, build and submit Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) and buy packs from the store at home when they aren’t in-game.

Other additions to the FUT mode include:

• Featured Team of the Week; a brand new way to celebrate the performance of a select Team of the Week player each week.
• FUT Heroes: celebrate football’s most memorable players with items that represent the unforgettable moments that turned them into fan favourites.
• New Co-Op Friendly Mode.
• New Stadium Customisations.
• ICONS: 4 new players join the elite ranks of FUT ICONs.

EA Play members will be able to get Early Access to FUT 22 on September 22 while EA Play Pro players will have access to the game on PC from the same date. For anyone that pre-ordered the Ultimate Editon, they will have access to the game from September 27, 4 days before FIFA 22‘s global release on October 1.

Following on from Tuesday’s post which you can read here, Sony and Sucker Punch Productions have addressed ESRB rating Ghost of Tsushima; Director’s Cut by announcing the game, its content and its release date, and boy did the rumours (and a few leaks online) hit the nail on the head.

The ESRB had classified the new version of the game for PS4 and PS5, with very little extra information about what we could expect. Now, we have full details about what’s in store for the title, which is to be released on August 20.

What does Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut have in store for us?

Sucker Punch Productions is certainly a fitting name as they’ve packed a punch for what’s in store with the new and updated version. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut will include the original game, all the previously released Sucker Punch Productions content, and a new island to explore as part of the Iki Island expansion (the rumours were correct again).

Ikishima, or Iki Island, is a neighbouring island to Tsushima and it will add a new chapter to Jin Sakai’s adventure, yet the details of the storyline are being kept secret. Players can expect new environments, new armour, new techniques, and more.

New PS5 Features

The PS5 version will have other additions such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, 3D audio, improved load times, different 4K resolution options, and targeted 60 fps. New players for the PS5 version will also find they have lip sync for both the English and Japanese voice-overs (Daisuke Tsuji and Kazuya Nakai lend their voices to Jin Sakai perfectly). Your saved file from the PS4 will transfer over to the PS5 if you choose to upgrade.

Prices for Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

This is where it gets a little complicated as there are different prices for different upgrading options when pre-ordering the game.

There are no UK prices yet, but here’s a rough estimation from the US prices.

PS4 players can pre-order an upgrade for $19.99 (around £15), PS4 players that get the Director’s Cut but what to upgrade to the PS5 version can upgrade for $9.99 (around £7), and PS4 players that want to upgrade straight to the PS5 version will have to pay $29.99 (around £22).

If you have not yet bought the games, the price for the PS4 version will be $60 (around £45) and the PS5 version will be $70 (around £50).

Sucker Punch Productions also announced there will be updates to their multiplayer mode, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. They didn’t cover much information regarding this apart from the fact these updates will be made available to all players with no additional charge.

What players can expect regarding the story mode and characters from Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles…

It was only last week that SEGA announced Demon Slayer: The HInokami Chronicles would be getting a Western release, now new details emerge about what we can expect in the gameplay and if done well, it could become another hit for the Demon Slayer franchise.

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

Based on the widely popular and record-breaking manga and anime TV series Demon Slayer: Kimestu No Yaiba and developed by CyberConnect2, the upcoming fighting game will feature main characters battling it out in 3D arena environments set in the series’ Taisho Period of Japan. It is said to take inspiration from the developer’s other successful series, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja, by featuring both a story mode and a versus mode.

Very few details had been released so far, yet now Xbox has now outlined what story arcs and characters you can expect when playing the game in this new story trailer.

Story Mode and Characters

Demon Slayer: The HInokami Chronicles is going to draw from not one, but two Demon Slayer arcs, specifically “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve” and “Mugen Train” (everything that has been released in animated form so far). We will see protagonist Tanjiro meet many unique characters on his quest to restore his sister Nezuko’s humanity, with 18 of them being playable characters.

The exciting part of this reveal is several of these characters will be members of the Hashira, the highest group in the Demon Slayer Corporation. For those who are unaware, each Hashira practices a different “breathing style” that helps them in combat situations- a feature that will hopefully be animated well in the game. The three members of Hashira that have been announced for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles so far are Giyu Tomioka, Shinobu Kocho, and Kyojuro Rengoku (pictured). These members can control Water, Insect and Flame breathing techniques.

Tanjiro’s breathing style “Hinokami Kagura” is said to also be a feature in the game, however, it is uncertain it will be as powerful as it is in manga and anime, to make gameplay more balanced out.

When to Expect Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles

Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is set to be released in North America and Europe on October 15 2021, available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. There will also be a Digital Deluxe Edition of Hinokami Chronicles, which will give PC and PS users 8,000 “slayer points,” 3 Butterfly Mansion skins, 12 character avatars for players on PS4, PS5, or Steam, 4 keys to unlock new characters and a custom PS4 theme.

It will be interesting to see how the game plays out but for now, fans will have to anticipatingly wait for October 15.

As the release date for Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin creeps closer (July 9), Capom released the full opening cutscene, just before the trial version goes live.

If you are unfamiliar with the game, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a turn-based RPG spin-off game based on the Monster Hunter franchise, started in 2004, for those who are looking for more traditional and lighthearted gameplay. Perfect for those wanting to get into the franchise, but are not sure where to start. While most games featured in the Monster Hunter franchise focus on the Hunters, the Stories series focuses on the Riders; people who bond through their monsters through kinship and look at the relationship between humans and monsters specifically.

The franchise has sold over 72 million units worldwide (as of March 2021) and is Capom’s second best-selling series after Resident Evil.

The cutscene itself starts off with a ritual of the tribe the player characters originate from, complete with singing and ceremonial dancing. It then shows the female lead, Ena, finding an old Rathalos, who gives her an egg that later hatches and becomes the player’s Rathalos companion in the game.

The cutscene sets up the game’s fundamental story, yet keeps enough hidden to entice the viewers into playing it or at least want to test out the trial version, that drops June 25. It is free, and will even transfer the saved game data if trial users end up wanting to buy the game.

A Fallout 4 fan attempts to pre-order the upcoming game with bottle caps!

Bottle caps are the in-game currency used in the post-apocalyptic RPG franchise ‘Fallout’, and one super fan attempted to pre-order the game using just that; seeing as retailers are now accepting pre-orders of the game. Reddit user GatorMacheteJr has said – “Fallout 3 was my favourite game for several years, so I made the rational choice to start saving up bottle caps. Turns out 4.5 years of undergrad and three years in a Master’s program leads to a lot of drinking.”

GatorMacheteJr sent a box to Bethesda, which contained over 2,000 bottle caps (weighing more than 11.2 pounds), and a letter to Bethesda’s PR department, in hope that he may be able to pre-order the game using his caps.

Whether the box has reached Bethesda’s offices in Maryland has yet to be known, or even if the company have received it and honoured the request. GatorMacheteJr says that they’ll keep everyone updated on the matter.
