A recent translation by Perfectly Nintendo, a new update has been announced by Atlus for Shin Megami Tensei V. This will bring a few tweaks to certain parts of the game. Although only offering some minor fixes, here are the patch notes:

What Exactly is Shin Megami Tensei V?

Shin Megami Tensei V is a role-playing video game that is set in modern-day Tokyo and the Netherworld. The player assumes control of a high-school student who is unexpectedly drawn into investigating rumours about demons appearing in a tunnel with a pair of his other high-school friends. Inevitably things go awry as he is dragged into an otherworldly struggle.

Shin Megami Tensei V is a game that lures newbies into a divisive experience by presenting them with a hefty, tough, yet rewarding journey if you stick it out. It’s not uncommon to feel compelled to play the game for several hours, only to lose that zeal when your current lineup of demons can’t handle the next boss battle.

Returning to the game after a pause and feeling a tremendous sense of accomplishment after defeating a particularly difficult foe happens very often. It’s a terrific starting place for newcomers to the Shin Megami Tensei and should also be a lot of fun for returning players. It shouldn’t be overlooked if you are a fan of JRPGs, and want to catch gods and demons to do your bidding

New Release By Atlus: Shin Megami Tensei V – Outsells Nintendo’s well-known favourites for the First Week

It’s been 7 days since Shin Megami Tensei V was released in Japan on the 11th November 2021. It’s not a surprise that JRPG’s are popular in Japan, however for the first week of release Shin Megami Tensei V actually sold over 100 thousand more copies than Nintendo’s well-known favourites, Animal Crossing New Horizons, Mario Party Superstars, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and many more.

That makes Shin Megami Tensei V the top sold game of that week, beyond Call of Duty: Vanguard as most of the top sold games for the first week have been Nintendo Switch Games.

What’s Making Shin Megami Tensei V increase in Popularity?

Compared to Tales of Arise, Shin Megami Tensei V has surpassed Nintendo Switch Sales in the first week, but what’s causing this?

Shin Megami Tensei V has been getting the same joke over and over again, fans say that Atlus put 90% of their effort into the animation for the main character’s hair and 10% for the rest of the game, despite the joke we can see that it couldn’t have been far from wrong.

Shin Megami Tensei V – Graphics, Music & Freedom

Shin Megami Tensei V may not be an open-world game, but there is certainly a ton of freedom under each area, especially when searching for turn-based battles. You can roam around, explore and engage with the environment. The battles can include a lot of different items, all that have a different effect during battle.

Anyone who is a fan of Atlus will know what their Art Style is like, especially if they’ve played any games from the Persona franchise or the amazing narrative-based puzzle game Catherine (Catherine: Full Body on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation).

The graphics seem to look pretty good on the Nintendo Switch Lite, if it looks good on that screen, it’s sure to have a very clean and crisp look on the Nintendo Switch OLED. There are no issues with frame rates dropping, it plays just as well as all the games created by Atlus.

The cutscenes and music are amazing. The animation often ties well in with the soundtrack, the music is also being compared to the greatness of NieR: Automata and NieR: Replicant, one of the most popular JRPG’s. A most loved soundtrack from Shin Megami Tensei V is the ‘Shop Theme’ which is where the player finds and meets Gustave for the first time. Beautiful ethereal sounds and a hauntingly gorgeous singer.

There are a few cases where characters repeated themselves after a cutscene, but that’s not necessarily bad and quite common for JRPG’s, and RPG’s in general. The creativity of each boss fight has a new surprise each time. They offer a challenge for anyone that likes to have a little more intense gameplay, rather than concentrate on the story alone.

What Is Shin Megami Tensei V About?

The story follows the main protagonist, who awakes in an apocalyptic Tokyo, similar to a demonic wasteland, it’s filled with monsters, demons and other third-dimensional beings. The main character’s life is in jeopardy, but a mysterious being saves him just before any demons steal their life. Now the protagonist must work with them to become a Nahobino. As the protagonist gets this newfound power, they venture through Da’at and must fight their way through, gods and other deities for survival. The fate of the world is in the main character’s hands.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 (which is roughly the 50th game in the Megami Tensei series if you include Persona and the Dancing games) came out last Friday as an exclusive title for the Nintendo switch. As they want to do, dataminers have already started picking the game apart and one has found evidence that may suggest the game will be ported to the PS4 and PC.

Datamining is, as described by wikipedia: “ process of extracting and discovering patterns in large data sets involving methods at the intersection of machine learning, statistics, and database systems.” you got that? No, me neither. As far as I am concerned, its magic. What it allows people to do, however, is spot items that can relate to upcoming updates, releases or, as is the case here, ports.

Twitter User @regularpanties, or Pan-hime as we will refer to them going forward as this is a Family site, was the one to release a sting of code from Shin Megami Tensei 5’s .uproject File (a .uproject file is the proprietary project file extension for unreal Engine). This line was the games “target platforms”, which included the nintendo switch, but also listed PlayStation 4 and Windows. This either indicates a future port to those systems or, if we are playing devils advocate and being skeptical here, that a port was at one point planned and was scrapped during development. There are also some graphical settings listed under the “PS4 DeviceProfile”, such as texture quality and resolution, which would also imply a Port (as these PS4 functions could easily be changed to PC). As of right now sega and Atlus have said nothing in regards to a port.

While SMT 4 was and still is a Nintendo 3DS Exclusive, the Seminal Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturn recently received a HD remaster for Switch, Ps4 and PC, which means that its not out of the question for 5 to go multi-platform as well. Infact, it was Pan-hime who leaked that the remaster would come to PC as well, which gives this new Leak greater credibility. Furthermore, a port was mentioned in the NVidia Geforce Now Server Leak/Datamine that happened earlier this year.

A port of SMT 5 to all consoles might be the push the series needs to break into the mainstream, although I don’t really feel that that is necessary. Persona 5, a spinoff of the same series, did gangbusters when it came out and the recent PC port of Persona 4 also did well.

It is, once again though, worth remembering that Datamines are not conformation. Sometimes developers leave data in the game from scrapped concepts and ideas that just didnt come to fruition. While this particular Leak may have clout behind it, nothing is confirmed until Atlus or Sega Confirm it themselves.

Shin Megami Tensei V Gameplay Footage – First Impressions

In the last 5 days, Brand New Shin Megami Tensei V gameplay footage has been released. Shin Megami Tensei V was announced at Nintendo Tree House, E3 Brought to you by Atlus for alongside an announcement for when it will be released, which will be the 12^th November 2021, 1 day from now.

At the Nintendo Tree House Event, they had briefly shown the Shin Megami Tensei V trailer, which showcased exclusive Gameplay with the turn-based combat style. However, it wasn’t merely enough for those who know nothing about the series or even enough for fans of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise to truly see what they had in store for the game. The recently released gameplay truly shows what you’ll be getting for your money.

The footage has significant detail and seems to be an open-world game. The art style is very similar to Atlus’s previous games from the Persona franchise and their successful game Catherine (Catherine: Full Body) on the Nintendo Switch.

The graphics seem to look pretty good on the Nintendo Switch recording, but we aren’t sure whether this was taken from a Nintendo Switch OLED where the image would look a little more ‘crisp’ or a regular Switch. The frame rates seem to drop at some points, but fans are unsure if this is because of a fault in the recording or if it is the actual game itself.

The Megami Tensei V’s original soundtracks are also catching the fans attention, fantastic music that’s being compared to the greatness of NieR: Automata and NieR: Replicant. One of the most loved soundtracks is the ‘Shop Theme’ which is where the player finds and meets Gustave for the first time. Beautiful ethereal sounds and a hauntingly gorgeous singer.

The game looks fantastic, it may only be released on Nintendo Switch, but there is a new offshoot called Monark, that will be released by Atlus on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 next year, February 2022.

Looks like my birthday is coming early and so am iiiii- going to tell you about some big releases coming on my birthday month? Yes, yes I am. I so am.

Here are some big titles to keep an eye out for this November 2021!

Call of Duty Vanguard: N@zi Zombies are the bread and butter of COD. Both in the in-universe sense and in the ‘stereotypical foul-mouthed 9 year olds doxxing players and casually calling everything the n-word’ sense. Sledgehammer Games has, however added a unique story twist for the single-player campaign. It is an alternate history story wherein Gestapo leader Hermann Wenzel Freisinger fills the power vacuum left by Hitler’s death. By the sounds of it, essentially getting vibes of “What If Inglorious Basterds, but Hans Landa became the new Hitler”, which to be fair, would be a neat concept if the performances in the story mode can carry it through. Cautiously optimistic with this one.Vanguardreleases on November 5^th for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC. Till then, we also have plenty of other COD games and merch at good prices here.

Battlefield 2042: It’s bigger and badder than any previous Battlefield game, and by that, I hopefully mean better, though it’s not just about the size, it’s how you use it- ANYWAY! The game will drop November 5th and is entirely focused around the multiplayer experience, with seven maps and 128-player matches in classic modes like Conquest. The Hazard Zone mode will see players battle against eachother and AI enemies to extract data drives, whoever gets the most wins. There have been some middling reviews from the Beta and I’m more a single-player or couch-co-op kinda guy myself, but I see the appeal.

Football Manager 2022: Currently available in early access on PC and will launch worldwide on November 9th for Xbox One, PC, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android. For any Fifa fans looking for something to tide them over till the next one comes out, choose from over 500,000 players and 123 leagues to live out your Football Manager dreams… I mean, the fact that it has 2022 in the title? That’s not a real year😉!  The Data Hub lets you utilize real-world metrics and the game also features improved AI and more opportunities for strategic gameplay.

Jurassic World Evolution 2: Frontier Developments will be releasing this Jurassic Park-building dino-breeding management sim on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC this November 9th. Jeff Goldblum is also returning as Ian Malcolm for the game, so colour me intrigued.

Shin Megami Tensei V: For the less weeb-initiated of you: Shin Megami Tensei is a visual novel RPG game, usually seeing players in a life-building dating sim by day and a fantasy turn-based action game by night. The Persona series is a spin-off franchise set in the same universe, MCU style. Considering how successful Persona 5 and Royal got when they released, as many people’s entry points to the series, I’m intrigued to see how the story and gameplay of this game turn out. This game drops November 11^th for the Nintendo Switch, check out the trailer here!

Sherlock Holmes: Chapter 1: An open-world detective investigation game, Fogware presents a story featuring a younger Sherlock Holmes returning to his childhood home in Cordona, which is precisely one letter change from being a reference to… The kingdom from Tangled, let’s say. Explore the island, don Hitman-esque disguises and battle your way out of scuffles with gun combat. The game will release on November 16^th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise: An upcoming expansion mode to the main New Horizons game on November 5th. Customise your own ‘vacation homes’ for villagers, explore new environments, design schools and restaurants, have a gay ol’ time folks.

A brand new trailer has been released from Atlus for Shin Megami Tensei V, alongside an announcement for exactly when it will be released and pre-orders being opened. For E3 2021 Nintendo’s Tree House Event briefly showed the Shin Megami Tensei 5 trailer showcasing exclusive Gameplay and combat style however, their most recent trailer revealed the strong action-packed story behind the upcoming release. If you have played previous Shin Megami games and have been following the series, you know what to expect and are well aware that Shin Megami V has a lot in store.

The latest Shin Megami Tensei 5 trailer begins the trailer with the protagonist appearing in a dystopian Tokyo, that has been overrun and filled with God, demons, monsters and the like. The protagonist partners up with a mysterious stranger to become a ‘Nahobino’, a ‘condemned being’ to conquer the forces of chaos. The trailer displays gameplay to be an open-world, turn-based, roleplay game where you must fight demons to survive. 

The plot may not be the most original, but the trailer offers a ton of amazing gameplay, graphics and briefly introduces us to unique characters and interesting mechanics. The scenery proves to give a real feel for a post-apocalyptic Tokyo, while the protagonist goes up against demons in chaotic ruin, the players have the option to explore a variety of areas and most likely will have fun playing around with that freedom. It is clear that as the player progresses through the game, they will unlock new abilities for their character, as we have a closer look at the trailer, we can see the player can summon a special attack, of what appears to be a strong wind which causes multiple combos and critical hits to their enemy and inflict insane damage.
