EA is going to be giving some of its most iconic NPCs huge overhauls with new looks, personalities, and lore.

EA has given Sims fans their first look at overhauls to significant characters in The Sims 4.

The studio first announced back in August that it would be giving several “flagship characters” a visual update, along with changes to lore and their personalities. In a Livestream this week that showcased the new Kit and Neighborhood Stories feature, the team gave a glimpse into how progress on some of the NPCs is going.

SimGuruRusskii showed comparison shots for Bella Goth, Mortimer Goth, Dina Caliente and Nina Caliente – all iconic characters that you will no doubt have seen if you watch any Sims 4 streamers. Both Bella and Mortimer have had features changed to make them look older, which is a welcome change considering they currently don’t seem much older than their teenage daughter. Mortimer may also get a new moustache, which SimGuruRusskii said should look “a little bit more refined, a little bit more elegant.” The team is possibly contemplating adjusting Mortimer’s skin tone.

Bella Goth’s new concept also shows her with an adjusted skin tone. Her new complexion more closely reflects her appearance in past Sims games after years of whitewashing accusations. She might be getting a new hairstyle too. This supposedly will look “a little bit more modern, a little bit more refined as well.”

The Caliente sisters are also getting adjusted skin tones to match their ethnicity more accurately. The new design brings both closer to their older game appearances, finally ridding Dina of her banana-yellow hair in favour of something more natural. Nina may also be getting a slightly altered hair colour to a more auburn-toned look. Both sisters are probably receiving new outfits, making them look more “glam” compared to their current… unique… fashion choices.

SimGuruRusskii says there’s no planned release date for these changes yet, and that it’s all still very much a work-in-progress with the potential to change.

If recent job listings related to the sims 4 are anything to go off, The 5th entry in the life simulation/Saw trap Designer franchise “the sims” may be a long way off.

The sims 4 flew past its 7th anniversary this year, with the game still getting regular DLC drops (to the point that the DLC coast around 11 times what the base game costed at launch), but some in the community are getting to a point where they think its about time for the next game to come along.

However, with EA looking to staff up its developers, its beginning to look less and less likely that the sims 5 is anywhere near coming to fruition.

The job listing is for “Director, Global Brand Management, The Sims” which doesn’t sound like much on the surface, but when you dig into the job specifics, it becomes clearer. EA clearly lays out that this will be for the Business end of “the sims 4”, without any mention of previous or future games. It also goes out of its way to specify that the person hired into this role will not only be working on content for the sims 4 for this year, but also for years in the future and will have an additional focus on the “multi-year experience roadmap.”

This news will be certain to please some fans who are perfectly content with the sims as it is now, however some are unhappy with the current game, with reasons varying from lacking features that where in older games or features that fans have wanted added for years still not materialising.

A new update for The Sims 4 adds scenario challenges, the first two involve finding love after a breakup and making money.

Scenarios is a new tab on The Sims 4 official site. Scenarios are new self-contained storylines where the player is presented with a goal and has to figure out their own way to accomplish it.

The story will vary depending on how the player achieves the scenario:

“There are many different outcomes to Scenarios and many different ways to achieve those outcomes,” the update says.

The update launched on November 2nd with two scenarios, Making Money and Finding Love After a Break-Up.

Here’s how you can access the new Scenarios:

Players that download the patch on November 2nd will have access to the brand new Scenarios feature. You’ll be able to access currently available Scenarios via the Main Menu following these easy steps:

1. Click on the ‘New Scenario’ button on the Main Menu
2. Choose the Scenario you’d like to try out
3. Once you’ve selected your Scenario, choose whether you’d like to start a new save, or use an existing save. Please note: At this time, a Scenario can only be started in a new household. This will be updated eventually
4. Once you’re in CAS, create your household making sure to complete any requirements
5. Next up, choose your world and lot. Remember, if you’re playing ‘Making Money’ that your household funds will be set to 0 once beginning. So, you may be in for quite the challenge if you choose to start with a bulldozed or unfurnished lot.
6. Enter live mode, and enjoy!

On the next day, another Scenario was added: Too Many Toddlers.

At the moment, you’ll have to start the scenarios with a new household, though in future updates you should be able to apply Scenarios to existing households. You can continue to play as the household you started for the scenario once it’s completed, though, so if you get attached to your new household you’ll be able to stick with them.

The petition for more inclusive pronoun options on Change.org has garnered over 20,000 signatures.

Over 20,000 The Sims 4 players are formally petitioning EA to add gender-neutral pronouns in an effort to make the game more inclusive. I’ve always loved Sims for its inclusivity. Back in the early 2010s, I would play Sims 2 on my PS2, and it would be pretty much the only place where I was able to safely explore relationships with girls and see myself represented in a way that wasn’t negative.

Things only got better from there, when in 2016 EA made it so that your Sims physique, voice, and walk style weren’t limited by gender. They also have more extensive options, such as being able to determine whether your Sim can use the toilet standing up, or get pregnant, regardless of appearance.

However, characters are still locked to he/him and she/her pronouns. The petition on Change.org acknowledges the existing options, but pushes for EA to go further.

As a Non-Binary person myself, I would really appreciate being able to make my Sim use the same pronouns as me. There may be some issues in translation, but considering how profitable the Sims series is, it seems like a doable request. Hopefully, with the arrival of The Sims 5, these changes will be implemented.

It’s almost impossible to think of something as phenomenal as having Pop-star Bebe Rexha will be featuring at the Sim’s 4 music festival.

Starting on 29th June, a music festival will be hosted by EA in the Sims 4 that will feature, the-one-and-only, pop star Bebe Rexha, a part of the wholesome indie band Glass Animals and Joy Oladokun, known to be both a singer and songwriter. The Sims 4 will have ‘Sims Sessions’ that will give players the opportunity to explore around the festival grounds, get their hands on some great merchandise and listen to some ‘sick’ tunes.

Even though virtual concerts in games isn’t something that is particularly new, EA seems to make it different by using their own Sim language to give their players a unique gameplay experience. It’s not only funny, but it’s memorable and will leave their players wanting more. Whereas in other games such as Avakin Life, we’ve seen performers such as Billie Eilish, Hayley Kiyoko and a few indie artists, it has become overused and more of an event that passes you by without leaving an impression. It’s fun to see the artist sing in their gibberish language and will fill many with a bit of joy, wondering how the artist would have recorded such great nonsense created by the legendary Will Wright.

This is no laughing matter, in fact EA take this very seriously and have been doing this for years, they’ve worked with over 500 artists since 2004 and intend to continue with their Sim gibberish fun like music. The Simlish language is very fun and has become so memorable over the years they’ll be having a karaoke event on Tik Tok where fans can brag about their Simlish knowledge. The Sims 4 is coming to the PS4 and Xbox One in 2016

The Sims as always been an exceedingly popular simulation game and, although originally for PC release, has managed to make it’s way onto various other platforms due to it’s ever-growing fan base. EA Games has announced recently that it will be altering the games’ formats, so that they may cater for gamers who own the more groundbreaking consoles on the market at present.

Over the past few months, DLC has started to make up for missing elements in The Sims 4, as consumers were complaining about not being able to visit town when your sims went to work, smaller plots, and the removal of create a style.

After the game’s initial release in September 2014, we should expect to see The Sims 4 on the PS4 & Xbox One within some point in 2016, most likely the Autumn. Although EA haven’t announced a specific date for it’s release onto these consoles, it’s important to note that all previous Sims games have made it on to these consoles, so we can only assume..
