Following the initial announcement of Bethesda’s Starfield at E3 in 2019, a trailer was released at Xbox and Bethesda’s joint E3 2021 showcase.
It was revealed that the game will be a console exclusive for the Xbox Series X/S which according to the game’s developer Todd Howard, will make Starfield a ‘better product.’
In an interview with The Telegraph, Howard talked about all things Starfield, including its exclusivity to Xbox and PC. Following Microsoft’s purchase of ZeniMax Media it was revealed that the PlayStation 5 would not be getting a Starfield release. Howard claimed that leaving Starfield off of PlayStation consoles would be for the best.
He claimed ‘You don’t ever want to leave people out, right, But at the end of the day, your ability to focus and say this is the game I want to make, these are the platforms I want to make it on, and being able to really lean in on those is going to make for a better product.’

When asked by the Telegraph how he feels about Bethesda games not coming to PlayStation consoles he stated ‘I will just say I want everybody to have the ability to play it in some fashion.’
Starfield will be released for Xbox Game Pass as a Microsoft exclusive on November 11, 2022.
