Last Tuesday, Activision Publishing filed a lawsuit against the company EngineOwning. This company is known for being a company that advertises and reveals cheats for Call of Duty and other widely known, popular online shooter games. By filing a lawsuit, Activision is attempting to shut down the software that permits people to be able to cheat in Call of Duty and any other Activision-Published games.
The reason for this lawsuit was for Activision to be able to “put a stop to unlawful conduct” that has been committed by EngineOwning as they have been profiting off of selling a number of hacks that allow players to unfairly and to have advantage over other players, meaning that they are cheating in the game. Activision states that the “ongoing activities damage Activision games, and its overall business and the experience of the COD player community.
The lawsuit that Activision filed explains that the software that EngineOwning created allows players to be able to “manipulate the COD games to their own personal advantage, such as automatically aiming weapons, revealing the location of opponents and allowing the player to see information that is not normally available to players because it would give them an unfair advantage within the game.
Whilst Activision has been recently trying to crack down on the cheaters in the Call of Duty games. In December, Activision put into a place the Ricochet anti-cheat system across the world in Warzone. Following this, the company proceeded to ban 48,000 accounts who were playing at an unfair advantage due to hacks. Therefore, because of this new system, Activision has been able to “identify and ban thousands of accounts using cheating software in the COD games in just over the past year.”
