I may be a couple years too late to say this, but in the unlikely (or likely, depending who you ask) event of a second trip to “Loch Down”, Gartic Phone (developed by Onrizon Social Games) is one of the best free-to-play games for your socially-distanced needs! And stay tuned for a few of my own Gartic Phone highlights!

First, you fire up your laptop, search for Gartic Phone via your preferred search engine, be it Bing, Ecosia, or even Rule34 if you’re in a particularly good mood and would like to ruin it! Then punch in your username, share the room link to three or more mates and Bob’s your uncle! Prepare to enter The Fun Zone!

The Fun Zone (Gameplay): First off, you get to type up a silly prompt for someone to draw. If you’re not creative enough to come up with something yourself, no trouble, an example prompt will pop up until you start typing. Once the time limit to write is finished, you then use Microsoft Paint-like drawing tools to attempt bringing someone else’s prompt to life. Alternatively, you have to guess and type in a prompt to interpret what fresh-hell of cubist insanity someone else drew before you! The end result is a show reel revealing how how hilariously right or wrong everyone got it!

The results are especially rib-tickling if you and your mates are playing with Discord or other voice chat apps in the background to get the best reactions to a picture followed by hilariously unrelated prompt or prompt followed by stick figures in awkward situations.

Various game modes with different rules or adjustments let tailor your improvised competitive shenanigan sessions to you and your friends’ preferences.

1. Normal: As discussed up-top.
2. Knock-Off: Replicate drawings while the clock gets faster.
3. Secret: Your creations are hidden till the grand finale.
4. Animation: Create animations with others.
5. Icebreaker: Ask questions and let your drawings run wild.
6. Complement: You start with basic lines and see the other players’ interpretation.
7. Score: Attempt to gain the highest score.
8. Speedrun: Speedrunning is Awesome, Here’s Why.
9. Sandwich: Start writing and drawing until the end.
10. Crowd: 15+ player battle royale!
11. Background: Create a fixed background for your animations.
12. Solo: Make animations in just five frames.
13. Custom: Does what it says on the tin!

Gartic Phone is available on PC and Mobile in many languages (including Hebrew, Persian, Korean, and Vietnamese).

Context

So… yeah gonna start this one off with a content warning. While mostly this will pertain to the Recent map released by John Romero, it was released within the context of the currently unfolding situation in Ukraine.

I just like playing doom, and the history of these games, their development, and their developers. We are going to keep this light and mostly focus on the map itself, but do know that this may get heavy at times

One Humanity

John Romero, best known for having the best hair in the industry and also once threatening to make gamers his bitch, has just released a Doom level. The now 54 year old game dev started out in the industry as a founding member of ID software, and together with Tom Hall, Adrian Carmack and the Far future AI weaning Human skinsuit known as John Carmack, they made Wolfenstein and, today’s topic, DOOM. Recently, John Romero has released a new map for DOOM 2, titled “one humanity” as part of a fundraiser for the Red cross and the UN Central Emergency Response to help the people of Ukraine

Now this is Romeros’ first *doom 2* map since 1994, however this is not his first doom map. Back in 2016, Romero released remakes of doom 1’s maps E1M4 and E1M8, which were the only maps in Doom Episode 1 not designed by Romero originally. Later on, Romero would release SIGIL, the “official Unofficial 5th episode” in 2019, either for free with a midi soundtrack by James “Jimmy” Paddock, or a Second non-midi soundtrack by Buckethead that cost €6.66. So its not like this is Romeros’ first map in 38 years… but it is the first one for Doom 2, meaning we have all of the new Doom 2 stuff that that entails.

The gameplay

This Map replaces MAP01: entryway from the original doom 2 (although it replaces nothing else so upon completion you are sent to the original MAP02: Underhalls). The Map also requires you to have an original copy of DOOM2.wad and a modern source port (I used GZDoom because I am a fake gamer, the real gamers probably use Chocolate doom or Crispy doom IDK).

This map takes *heavily* from SIGIL, by the way… which is to say it is aggressively cruel and tough and it will kick your ass. I stopped playing to write this article and I made it a *decent* way through on Ultra Violence but to be clear, we are talking “locks the player in a room with an archvile with nearly no-where to hide” cruel. We are talking “spawns 2 Cyber demons who will bombard the player for the rest of the level” cruel. But even then its so good and its so tightly designed.

There are a couple of things I want to note for those planning on playing this Level

1. 1. It uses SIGILs Mechanic of shootable switches. There are these red and green eye-like sprites that are from vanilla doom that, when shot in this map, will open, close, raise of lower floors
   2. The water at the bottom of the pit doesnt hurt you. Jump off the starting platform immediately, there is a rocket launcher down there that will be hard to grab later as that area is filled by 2 cyberdemons who you dont really have the space to fight
   3. There is a hidden BFG. it’s a secret within a secret, so if you find any of those, wall hump.

The future

As of right now, Romero is working on a sequel to SIGIL, which will be a “megawad” to completely replace DOOM 2’s maps. As of right now we don’t have a release date, although if we take “one humanity” as a teaser for the map pack, then we may see it  before too long.

As for modern id software themselves, they have been hiring recently, suggesting there may be plans for a new game. Now, personally I don’t expect to see a new entry in the doom series for a while, but I would not be opposed to a new Quake game in the universe of QUAKE 1 rather than its sequel.

The post John Romero Releases new Doom Map to support Ukraine first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Oh, Konami! You sweet, adorable, totally not cartoonishly inept company who dashed the hopes of a Silent Hill sequel featuring Kojima and Del-Toro on the rocks of… Well, not the profit motive, that’s for sure!

Konami forgot to renew it’s rights to the official Silent Hill website domain, leading to a substantially more business savvy individual buying rights to the website from right under the company’s nose. Will things stay like this? The answer is yes, but actually no, but definitely maybe!

Konami does own the rights to Silent Hill (much to the dismay of the fanbase), so they may be able to reacquire the website in the future. Oddly enough though, this isn’t K-Dawg’s first rodeo with not bothering renewing websites of it’s IPs (intellectual property), so I wouldn’t be too worried.

What happened to SilentHill.com? Besides replacing every asset and link with a single screenshot of The Famous Pyramid Head Tweet (that was a fun one to write about), the meta description reads “He Was First”. Perhaps Masahiro Ito had some prior knowledge of this little prank, or it’s generally referring to the designer’s agreement with many fans that Silent Hill games dropped in quality the further they got from the third one.

On a related note, Konami announced sometime last year that games from “new and existing IPs” will be in development in collaboration with BlooberTeam, an indie game company. Will Konami try to replace the ‘P’ in CPUs to stand for ‘Pachinko’? Will BlooberTeam touch their hearts enough to magically make them gift Kojima with the Metal Gear Solid rights on Christmas Day? As there’s soon to be an Activision Blizzard-shaped hole in my heart due to the powers that be, let’s see what fresh hell is getting cooked up at Ubisoft!

A Better Ubisoft, a collective of current and ex Ubisoft workers to end abuse in the company and gaming industry, have posted criticisms of how a recent internal Ubisoft survey only discussed via summary video with few to no specific claims about employee satisfaction (the supposed goal of the survey). The video was shared internally amongst Ubisoft employees, narrated by Anika Grant.

“With the exception of participation and engagement scores, the talking points were delivered with no numbers […] there were vague statements like, ‘You told us…’ or ‘We heard from you..’ This gives no way of knowing whether the statement that ‘you have managers who are approachable and supportive’ means 95% feel this way or 51% — starkly different outcomes”. – A Better Ubisoft.

Why So Vague iBhard? Saying some issues in the survey were “above the external benchmarks for general industry” and then preceding to not elaborate in the slightest isn’t exactly the best look. Needless to say, this ain’t it chief Grant!

Ironic that you allegedly admitted the largest issues brought up in the survey were about transparency and accountability… And then didn’t give a single second of lip-service to the 4 key demands A Better Ubisoft has been making for the last 200 days. The key demands still haven’t been met and Ubisoft employee requests for the survey results are pending.

There have also been reports of past internal message threads with the company being ignored, even after times Ubisoft itself explicitly asked for worker feedback on things.

This Paragraph Was Written By A Racially Diverse Team Made Up Of Various Faiths, Genders and Orientations, So How Could We Possibly Be Bad? Said Ubisoft to literally any criticism of internal systematic racism, sexism, homophobia and harassment! In a world where the folks at PlayStation managed to fire a major figure at the company for attempted kiddy-fiddling within HOURS, there’s literally no excuse for abusers like Hughues Ricour, Tommy Francois or Adrien Gbinigie to maintain high positions of employment after allegations that would make Harvey Weinstein blush!

And don’t even get me started on the “female characters are more difficult and expensive to animate” debacle from a couple years back, but sufficient to say, it’s a lot less expensive when you divert your budget from jiggle-physics to internal networking to replace known abusers you should’ve fired years ago.

What a coincidence the almighty algorithm gives me this Dying Light 2 tidbit when I was listening back to old Jeremy Jahns Star Wars reviews earlier today!

Not only is this Techland easter egg an easter egg, but it’s an easter egg INSIDE of another easter egg! A Russian Nesting Doll of easter egg-ception! There’s a secret Doom level in Dying Light 2 and players can receive a special new skill by completing it, which ties into the main subject of today’s blog.

But, Stefan, how do I get it? Well, if you can’t find a copy at a local store, you can- No, how do I find the Doom level? I wanna rip n’ tear! Aaah, well sit on my knee and I’ll spill you some tea.

First off, you gotta find 5 black rubber duckies scattered throughout the map. What is the function of them? Sources remain divided. You then have to complete the quest ‘Broadcast’, then you’ll be able to enter a previously locked room once you have the ducks and BOOM, now you get to enter The Fun Zone!

A few moments later, you offer up your dark ducky offerings to a nearby pedestal, complete a challenge that sees you try to get 5 objects within a time limit while fighting zomboners with the Ka Doom Shotgun and there ya go! A shiny new blueprint that gives players the ability to go full Darth Vader on a fool and choke them like a leather-daddy on prom night.

It won’t do a huge amount of damage on it’s own, but works well for stunning enemies and even being more susceptible to damage with follow-up attacks.

Other unlockable easter egg weapons for Dying Light 2 include:

The Left Finger of GloVa: Fingerbang your enemies, shoot your shot. Inside, if possible.

Cyberhands 2177: Mantis blades belonging to a certain ‘punk’, though I could’ve sworn the date was off by… Maybe a century.

“It’s me… Marian” sneakers: Triple jump your way across the land with hardcore parkour skills strong enough to make a certain moustachio’d Nintendo mascot blush!

A little backstory: The year is 2020. Pandemic soaring, anti-maskers in Hyde Park, quarantining at it’s height resulting in long periods of indoor isolation from the outside world… Then Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons release on the same day! This results in droves of memes and fanfictions depicting the wholesome cute Animal Crossing cast annihilating the alien hordes of hell while the viciously deadly Doomguy takes a little time out from his schedule to go fishing on an island resort. Needless to say, life was good!

The Go2Games Product Poem Power-Hour:

1. If your gamer-pad’s a tip, try our rad joy-con grip. Won’t smell like Febreeze or clean up with ease, but for AC fans, will appease.
2. There was once an AMIIBO named Lottie, who Villager found quite the totty. Had a WiFi connection and well-timed erection, but Last of Us 2 still won GOTY.

Why This Title? Well, one Isaiah Colbert from Kotaku, recently wrote an article titled ‘Deleting my Ex’s Animal Crossing Save Data‘. I then started writing the article from the perspective of “let’s make fun of a hypothetical person who thinks deleting your ex’s Animal Crossing data on purpose is a morally justifiable position”… Because I found that exercise to be, in layman’s terms, funny as the realistically-implemented horse-bollocks in Red Dead Redemption 2 (psst, which we have)!!!

With that said, I haven’t read Isaiah’s article, for all I know, maybe his ex gave him the Switch with her save data and it’s a heartrending ballad about how wiping her Animal Crossing progress helped him become a strong independent gamer who don’t need no save data. Just putting that out there in case anyone from Tumblr or Twitter mobs ended up misreading this as an invitation to harass Isaiah, though let’s be honest, even if I did make that “invitation”, just… Please don’t. Dropping the airy-fairy tone now, don’t harass folks online. Even if it turns out it was in the tone of “oopsie, deleted my ex’s Animal Crossing, but I can’t help it, I’m a Libra”, just be the bigger man/woman/nonbinary and enjoy your life.

Doom Eternals next update, update version 6.66 (of course),  is bringing a huge amount of new goodies to the game, including the much anticipated Horde mode, New Master Levels and a re-work to Battle Mode. And what’s even better is that its coming next week!

Doom Eternal Update 6.66 is set to release on October 26th for all platforms that support the game.

Battle Mode

Battle mode has always been doom eternals weird little side mode that no-one likes to acknowledge. The mode features 2 players playing as demons while a third plays as the slayer himself. While the mode has never really taken off, to call it “bad” is probably unfair.

This update will Change up the matchmaking system which will take into account win and lose streaks. This should help players face off against players of a similar skill level as them.

Alongside this a new arena for the mode, “stronghold” Will be added.

Master Levels

The Update will add 2 new master levels. Master levels are reworked versions of existing stages with more enemies and re-worked encounters, designed to be Incredibly difficult.

The two new master levels are “World Spear”, the first level of “the ancient gods part 2”, and “mars core”, the ninth level of thew games base campaign. What these master levels will entail is currently unknown, but expect them to be tough, especially after the Bone Crushing difficulty of the Tarras Nabad Master level.

Horde Mode

Probably the most anticipated addition to the game, horde mode is a replacement for the cancelled/indefinitely delayed Invasion mode, in which players will be tasked with stemming the endless tide of the damned as wave after wave of demons crash against you Steel barrelled sword of vengeance. 

The Mode will have players slowly unlock and complete challenges and score points as more and more demons pour into the arena.

Right now you can buy doom Eternal from Got to games for PS4 or Xbox one, and Begin you campaign of destruction against the forces of Hell. Rip and tear, Until it is done.

Bethesda has officially kicked off E3 with a bang.

The guys over in Bethesda Softworks have released tons of information about there up and coming games, as well as trailers and footage of gameplay.  They showed us a first look at the new DOOM, with a single player trailer whilst also showcasing the multiplayer features, confirming DOOM multiplayer will include game modes such freeze tag, clan arena and domination. Bethesda showed of DOOM’s new feature ‘SnapMap’, which will allow players to create their own maps. DOOM is set to be released in spring 2016 and will be hitting PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC

Dishonoured 2 was also officially announced during the conference, although we didn’t get a glimpse of any gameplay, we did get a pretty awesome trailer. Bethesda confirmed you can play as two characters throughout, either Corvo or Emily Kaldwin from the original Dishonoured. There is no release date yet but the game will be coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at some point in the future.

Last but least and the one I’m sure everyone is most excited about – Fallout 4. Bethesda treated the public by showing us tons of gameplay and it certainly did not disappoint. We found out that the ‘VATS’ system will be returning, you can play in either third-person as well as first-person, whilst also choosing whether you want to play as a female or male character. As well as jet packs on your heavy armour, your weaponry is also customisable and the user will be able to gain areas from which they can build houses on. Most exciting news of all is the official release date, 10th November 2015, giving you plenty of time to book the day off work. Fallout 4 certainly lived up to the hype, check out some of the gameplay below.
