Final Fantasy 14 is seeing a free Oceania Data Centre expansion confirmed for February 2022.

The Final Fantasy 14 Endwalker expansion is also dropping in December (trailer for Endwalker right hya), with an early access version available on the 3rd and the proper release on the 7th.

A letter from The Producer livestream including Square Enix staff working on Final Fantasy 14 included some of the following highlights regarding the upcoming ‘Data Centre’.

• The Data Centre is called Materia (a nod to the supplementary elemental combat items used in Final Fantasy 7).
• All worlds in the Materia Data Centre will be seen as ‘New Worlds’.
• These worlds will include free world transfer opportunities and special bonuses.

The development team for Final Fantasy 14 have stated in May that completion of a new Data Centre as requested by fans should be implemented by the 6.1 patch, which will be releasing shortly after the Endwalker expansion. Fans of Final Fantasy 14 in Oceania will see this as an absolute win, as up till now, fans from different countries that aren’t supported by in-game Data Centres had to play using servers from other countries, resulting in congestion issues, albeit not as bad as New World having to temporarily wipe entire mechanics just to make way for full servers. Though let’s not mince words, the whole palava with Final Fantasy 14 players having to enter lottery-like gambling dens to buy in-game houses is a whole other can of worms. Know what’s better than worms though? Actual food! So thank God the game has a cook book that’s equally useful in the virtual and real world.

Brief aside, the housing system will be seeing improvements in the upcoming patch to make waiting times for house purchases easier by not having to stand right by your desired area for housing for hours on end (this system will apply to Empyreum, a new location in Ishgard). Plots can’t be purchased till Patch 6.1 rolls in, but players can still explore various areas for potential purchase in Patch 6.0 to their heart’s content.

Final Fantasy 14 is now available on PC, PS4, and PS5.

Final Fantasy XIV inspired cake anyone?

Final Fantasy XIV is celebrating its 8th anniversary this year and they have gone all out on the celebrations by hiring a familiar face to bake the celebratory cake.

Square Enix gave Kim-Joy, someone you might recognise from the only slightly popular show The Great British Bake Off, the challenging task of baking the cake and it’s fair to say she succeeded. She was a finalist back in 2018 and has since become a professional baker and has published her own baking book, along with being a frequent columnist for The Guardian.

So what is the cake Kim-Joy baked to celebrate the massively multiplayer online role-playing game?

Kim-Joy used her incredible skills to create a lovingly layered vanilla cake topped with a massive (and edible) Moogle centrepiece, with plenty of Chocobos, Cactuar and Spriggans decorating the cake’s tiers.

She uses plenty of buttercreams, food dye, mochi, biscuit dough, bread dough, and edible gemstones to make this creation really come to life.

The official Final Fantasy XIV YouTube page uploaded a montage of Kim-Joy’s handiwork and how she went about making the cake, along with the mochi Spriggans, biscuit Cactuar and bread Chocobos.

Final Fantasy XIV has already had an incredible year so far, with the game becoming so popular it sold out of digital copies, and there is plenty of content still to come with the Endwalker expansion set to release on November 23 worldwide.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently in between updates, yet the game is more popular than ever and has caused the game to be sold out on all digital platforms.

Final Fantasy XIV Growing Success

The first spotting of Final Fantasy XIV being sold out came from Youtuber Skill Up, who reported you couldn’t either buy a digital copy of Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition or create new characters on NA servers, thanks to its upsurge in popularity.

It is hard to believe anything can be sold out when it is digitalized, however, it could be down to the developer Square Enix needing to limit its sales due to the server congestion it has been having to deal with since April, or the sales exceeded the number of available serial numbers for the game.

It is an odd time for the MMORPG game to be receiving such growth in members when it has received the last update for its expansion Shadowbringers, and there will be no new content in store until Endwalker launches in November 2021, yet that doesn’t stop new users registering.

As of April 2021, Square Enix reported there were over 22 million registered users for Final Fantasy XIV, almost twice what its competitor, World of Warcraft, had during its peak in 2010.

And some believe it is due to WoW that has caused such a rise in Final Fantasy players.

Huge influencers in the WoW community such as Asmongold, Bellular, and PreachGaming, have been dipping themselves more and more into the Final Fantasy world along with players that weren’t impressed by the latest WoW update for Shadowlands.

Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition is now back in stock after generating additional keys for the product, but it will be interesting to see how Final Fantasy XIV continues to grow ahead of its next update release…

Fans of Final Fantasy have already been fed by the plenty of updates Square Enix had to offer at E3 this year, but now it has been revealed a new animated series is in the works.

It was announced last night that the original and much loved PlayStation game would be getting an animated series by Square Enix social media manager, Sunil Godhania.

Originally released in 2000 and sold over five million copies worldwide, the game follows the thief Zidane Tribal, who is hired to kidnap a princess and ends up teaming up with to save her kingdom from evil forces. At the time, the game shifted away from realistic character designs towards a more cartoonish aesthetic; so already this is something that could work if done correctly.

The company co-developing the series is French animation Cyber Group Studios, who have previous experience adapting video game series into animated shows. They created the series for the lesser-known game Mini Ninjas and also created series based on Tom Sawyer and Zorro. The studio will also be in charge of distribution and are already supposedly preparing to pitch the show to broadcasters. The series is to be aimed at ages 8-13, yet it is being geared towards both die-hard fans and newcomers alike. Production is set to begin next year.

Final Fantasy has been turned into an animated series before, yet it didn’t directly follow a particular series and only had one series. This new show could be the result of Square Enix wanting to get back into the hype and fast-growing trend of video games being adapted into tv shows, with the success of Netflix’s Castlevania and other animated shows lined up in Netflix’s itinerary, such as Cyperpunk 2077 and Tomb Raider, and all the other latest video game adaptations that are listed here.

This news follows after this year’s Square Enix E3 conference, where they announced a ‘renaissance’ for the 30-year-old game series through the remastering of the original six Final Fantasy games that were released on NES and SNES. A new expansion for Final Fantasy XIV is going to be released on November 23 on Steam, PS4 and PS5 retrospectively and the company also announced Final Fantasy XVI is in development.

The Mac port doesn’t seem to be going too well for Final Fantasy XIV

In the recently released Mac client, players have been reporting performance issues with the latest release, Final Fantasy XIV. Low frame-rates, hanging launchers, and graphical errors are among these major game issues.

Players have taken to reddit and official forums to say that the game runs a lot better on Bootcamp, which is a way to run Windows OS on a Mac computer, than on the native client. Kotaku has claimed that the game isn’t “technically” a native client, but simply the Windows client being run through a wrapper. This is what was needed to heighten the game-play.

Square Enix and Transgaming, which are the company who ported the game, have yet to report on these issues, even though there are quite a large amount of people commenting on it all!

 Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward
An expansion has been announced for Spring release!

Some exciting news for a Monday afternoon! Square Enix have announced the first expansion pack, Heavensward, for it’s MMO Final Fantasy XIV. This is set to be available in the spring of 2015.

The game will receive a brand new playable race, although it is not specified (as game director Naoki Yoshida has exclaimed). All we know is that it is not Viangaa, which was previously rumoured. Players will also be able to build their very own airships (I’ve always wanted one!) and explore such places as “Ishgard and beyond”. Also including new huge open areas.

The expansion will focus on a thousand year conflict between Ishgard and Dravania (known as the Dragonsong War) in which those playing will have to end. Square Enix have stated that will reveal more about the new expansion this Saturday 25th October at the London Fan Festival!
