Final Fantasy XIV Sells Out of Digital Copies

Final Fantasy XIV is currently in between updates, yet the game is more popular than ever and has caused the game to be sold out on all digital platforms.

Final Fantasy XIV Growing Success

The first spotting of Final Fantasy XIV being sold out came from Youtuber Skill Up, who reported you couldn’t either buy a digital copy of Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition or create new characters on NA servers, thanks to its upsurge in popularity.

Final Fantasy XIV has had such an upsurge in popularity that the game is sold out on the Square Enix storefront so you cannot buy a digital copy and you cannot create new characters on NA servers.

It is hard to believe anything can be sold out when it is digitalized, however, it could be down to the developer Square Enix needing to limit its sales due to the server congestion it has been having to deal with since April, or the sales exceeded the number of available serial numbers for the game.

It is an odd time for the MMORPG game to be receiving such growth in members when it has received the last update for its expansion Shadowbringers, and there will be no new content in store until Endwalker launches in November 2021, yet that doesn’t stop new users registering.

As of April 2021, Square Enix reported there were over 22 million registered users for Final Fantasy XIV, almost twice what its competitor, World of Warcraft, had during its peak in 2010.

And some believe it is due to WoW that has caused such a rise in Final Fantasy players.

Huge influencers in the WoW community such as Asmongold, Bellular, and PreachGaming, have been dipping themselves more and more into the Final Fantasy world along with players that weren’t impressed by the latest WoW update for Shadowlands.

Final Fantasy XIV Complete Edition is now back in stock after generating additional keys for the product, but it will be interesting to see how Final Fantasy XIV continues to grow ahead of its next update release…
