Xbox Game Pass Gets 10 New Titles to End the Year

Microsoft has added ten new games to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service for PC and Xbox, including two brand new titles that were released on day one.

Normally, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass membership programme adds new titles throughout the course of the month rather than all at once. They have made an exception for December 16th however. Because the holidays are approaching, Microsoft chose to combine all of the new Xbox Game Pass games for the second half of December into a single day, giving subscribers access to ten new games, including two day one releases.

Titles Coming to Xbox Game Pass December 16th

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth, a Metroidvania game, and The Gunk, a third-person action-adventure/platformer game in which players struggle to clear an alien planet of a hazardous chemical, are the new Xbox Game Pass games for December 16, 2021. Both games are currently accessible to Xbox Game Pass users, with The Gunk featuring a native Xbox Series X version.

Alongside these Day One releases, there are 8 other titles that are also available for free from December 16^th. These include a variety of family friendly games such as Ben 10: Power Trip, Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups Save Adventure Bay (with co-op support), Race With Ryan, and Transformers: Battlegrounds. Then there’s the not so family friendly, but probably biggest title in this list – Mortal Kombat 11.

December 16^th will be the last day of this year until January 2022. Microsoft has confirmed that Weird West, The Anacrusis, and Windjammers 2 will be available on Game Pass next month. More titles are yet to be revealed and will be added throughout January 2022 as well.

Epic Games Store Free Games Available to Download Now!

Right now, you can add Prison Architect and Godfall: Challenger Edition to your Epic Games Store library for free, and you can do so until next Thursday, December 16th. Epic will then disclose the first of its new ‘mystery gift’ promotions at that time.

Godfall: Challenger Edition Free in Epic Games Store

The Challenger Edition of Godfall is a new, lower price version with limited features. When it’s no longer free it will be available to purchase on PlayStation Plus and through the Epic Store. A hack-and-slash looter RPG that has huge bosses and challenging trials to overcome with your friends. Looks fun, and definitely worth a try seeing as it’s free.

Prison Architect Free in Epic Games Store

If Godfall doesn’t pique your interest, the highly renowned Prison Architect, a deep, genuinely satisfying – if inevitably dismal – management game that tasks players with designing, building, staffing, and (hopefully) efficiently running their own prison, is your second freebie this week.

Since its initial release in 2015, Prison Architect has passed between the hands of Introversion Software and Double Eleven, all under the supervision of Paradox Interactive. It’s also been greatly expanded with many paid DLC, all of which is now available for the first time on the Epic Games Store. The giveaway, on the other hand, is an already extensive base game, which should give novices plenty of opportunity to determine whether they want to dig deeper into their pockets for more.

Epic has yet to release more details about the mystery gift now being marketed on its shop, it did something similar last holiday season, delivering a free new mystery game every day during its Holiday Sale.

According to a recent leak from Dealabs member Billbill-Kun, who has previously properly leaked PS Plus and Xbox Live Games line-ups over several months, Epic’s Holiday Sale will run from December 16th to January 6th, 2022, and will include a total of 15 games. The first 14 will be available for one day only, while the final 14 will be available for one week. Despite the fact that Billbill-Kun did not reveal the entire list, they claim Shenmue 3 will be the first game to be given away.

Dead by Daylight available free next week

Epic Games has announced their next lot of free games in store: Dead by Daylight and While True.

It’s been 5 years since the release of Dead by Daylight, and it’s become one of the most successful survival horror games of all time, finding its place among streamers and content creators.

Over the past five years, Dead by Daylight has received tons of DLC, mostly collabs with iconic horror franchises. These have included killers such as A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger, Halloween’s Michael Myers, Hellraiser’s Pinhead, Scream’s Ghost Face, and Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head.

While the base game is going to be free, the DLC will be available for paid purchase alongside it in the Epic Games Store. No doubt, a great sales tactic for the coming DLC.

The Epic Version will also apparently have cross platform compatibility.

Those looking for something a little less deadly will also have the opportunity to download While True for free next week. Its developer, Luden.io, describes it as a puzzle/simulation game about “machine learning, neural networks, big data and AI” in which players, “must learn all there is to know about machine learning and use visual programming to build a cat-to-human speech recognition system.”

Sounds like a treat!

PlayStation Now Titles for November Have Been Announced!

Sony has released a new batch of PlayStation Now games, including Mafia: Definitive Edition, Celeste, and Final Fantasy 9.

Mafia: Definitive Edition

Mafia: Definitive Edition from last year is, of course, a fancier version of Illusion Softworks’ popularly known open-world mafia game from 2002 This remake manages to breathe new life into the classic Mafia experience while also improving on it. It not only has detailed graphics with excellent lighting effects, but it also has very high quality animations.

Celeste

Celeste is a fantastic 2D precision platformer with a beautiful art style, that has gotten a lot of praise throughout the years. It’s been acclaimed for its snappy platforming gameplay as well as its poignant narrative.

Final Fantasy IX

But wait, there’s more! Classic JRPG action is coming to PlayStation Now in November, in the form of Final Fantasy IX. It will be celebrating its 21st birthday this year. Final Fantasy IX, the last Final Fantasy for the PlayStation, returns to the series’ pure fantasy roots.

Totally Reliable Delivery Service

And finally, Totally Reliable Delivery service. This is a chaotic multiplayer package delivery game in a sandbox environment with a focus on rowdy platforming, absurd vehicles, and rag doll physics. In this game you fumble your way to a destination without completely destroying your cargo with family or friends. Totally Reliable Delivery Service doesn’t really offer much beyond this though, but could be worth giving a go with friends seeing as it’s free.

The Next Free Game Released on Epic Games Store Announced!

This week Epic Games has revealed the next title that will be available to download for free on the Epic Games Store. The next game to be available for free will be Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse between October 14^th – October 21^st.

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse lets you play as Stubbs, our zombie protagonist. The game is simple, with your main objective being to convert humans into zombies using a small variety of methods.

This game initially released back in 2005, and recently saw a remaster released across modern platforms. It came out during an era of games where experimentation of making loveable villains the game’s protagonist was quite common, hence why it may bare some resemblance to the iconic Destroy All Humans! Which is actually available across all platforms in our store.

Free Content for Paladins

Epic also revealed that there will be a free pack for Paladins. This will unlock 4 champions for players to use immediately, alongside a bonus cosmetic for each. The playable champions are: Androxus, Raum, Tyra, and Ying – one champion from each role.

Currently Free on the Epic Games Store

The current free game on offer on the EpicGames Store is PC Building Simulator. A game in which you grow your very own computer repair enterprise as you learn to diagnose, fix, and build PCs.

Epic Achievements are Coming Soon!

The EpicGames Store also has plans to release a new achievement system next week. The achievements will be sorted into four tiers based on an XP value. These are the tiers and the amount of additional XP you get for the Achievement:

Bronze = 5-45 XP
Silver = 50-95 XP
Gold = 100-200 XP
Platinum = 250 XP

Any game that features Epic achievements will have a page that outlines all the achievements you can unlock in that game. It will also allow players to track and share their progress towards achievements with others.

The games that will feature Epic Achievements are Rocket League, Hades, Pillars of Eternity, Kena: Bridge of Spirts, Zombie Army 4 and Alan Wake Remastered.

‘Daemon X Machina’ Free Game Trial For A Week from Nintendo Game Trials

Nintendo has been doing quite a lot with their game trial events and this month it’s Daemon x Machina. If you don’t know what that is, it is an event that lasts a limited number of days, where Nintendo Switch Online users get to play a FULL version of a game (rather than just a demo) for a limited amount of time for free. This means they will have access to the full game, which also includes certain features you wouldn’t be able to access in a demo. Furthermore, Nintendo allows data transfer, if you reach a certain point of the game, you’ll be able to continue from there if you wish to buy the full game. Just like that, you’ll be able to start from where you left off after purchase.

What is Daemon X Machina?

Daemon x Machina is a third-person shooter, developed by Marvelous Inc and First Studio. It’s a game where mankind is at war with machines, it’s filled with fast-paced gameplay and beautiful chaos with a variety of weapons to equip. The plot described by Nintendo: “When the moon fell, mankind harnessed advanced AI to rebuild the world. However, the same disaster saw the arrival of the Immortals, an evil machine race who turned that AI against its masters. Hope for the future became a bitter battle for survival.”

As an effect of the unfortunate turn of events “An endless war rages between powerful consortiums and the Immortals in a fight to save humanity.” You get to start a journey and join a group of badass mercenaries and look for the secret of the immortals to save humanity before all perish.

This is certainly a fun game for those of you who want fast-paced and action-packed chaos in one sitting. If this game appealed to you, why not check it out here. This is only available for six days and begins on Monday 13^th September – 19^th September 2021 and will end the midnight of that day. You must have a Nintendo Online Membership in order to have access to the trial.

Sky: Children of Light to the Nintendo Switch is one of the Best Decisions ever made.

Yes, one of THE BEST decisions ever made and here’s why.

Gameplay on the Nintendo Switch vs Mobile

Sky: Children of Light is one of those wholesome, relaxing games you play on a cold, wintery night, beside a fire with your warm cup of hot cocoa. It’s a form of positive escapism, where you can take yourself into a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing world amongst the clouds and dedicate yourself to meeting with the spirits and elders amongst the star constellations and gathering collectables that will customise your character and unlock new pathways to bring you special places and….It’s free.

It all sounds wonderful, right? That is until you start lagging and frame rates drop below 30.

When I first discovered Sky: Children of Light on Mobile, I loved it, opening the app was like receiving a kitten as a gift on Christmas day and the little thing snuggling on my lap. The visuals were amazing, the graphics, the storytelling it was all great, but after about twenty minutes…it’s JUST GREAT. Almost, just okay. It’s not as amazing as it feels when you first open the app. The app tends to overheat my phone and just around the moment it gets hot, the server becomes slow, frame rates drop and I can hardly decipher which direction my character is flying and I end up on a random island getting attacked by these ‘half frog-half crab’ like creatures. My frustration then becomes immeasurable and I close the app and opt for something else.

The game is also online, you must have an internet connection to be able to play it, that also means there are other players who join the server and will be with you on the journey. But what’s so bad about that? Nothing, it’s just that when the frame rate drops, it makes interacting a lot harder and you miss the opportunity of making friends with a potential someone who can lead you through a closed-off area. They vanish from your side and as you finally manage to turn in the correct direction, you watch them gallop and take off into the distance in slow motion.

That’s not to say the game isn’t good, you would just need a really good phone to be able to withstand the app. That being said I have a Samsung Galaxy S10 which manages to play Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact and Obey Me, quite well for long periods of time without overheating. So I believe it’s safe to say that Sky: Children of Light can be a little demanding as an app.

Nintendo Switch Gameplay

Now, I don’t have enough words to describe how outrageously amazing Sky: Children of Light runs on the Switch. It’s so good that it should be illegal. Not a single frame rate drop, no overheating and because of these problems out of the way, I can interact without my experience being spoiled. I am able to do everything I want to do without a single interruption, it’s as if this game was made for the Switch. There are two different modes available for the Switch: targeting 60 frames per second, there’s the high-performance mode, then there’s a better visuals mode that targets 30 frames per second. The choice is yours.

I consider this a vast improvement and due to this, I discovered a lot more in the 13 hours total on the Switch, that I’ve been playing. I’ve come to appreciate the smaller details more. Such as the way my character shields itself from the strong winds and ‘warns’ me I should turn back the other direction, the fear when a dark dragon-like creature hurls towards me and attacks, the way my character shakes the black sludge off of their body and the dramatic cutscenes where my character falls into ‘despair’ and don’t get me started on the scenery, the flowers, trees and water animations are fantastic. These are small things that players might not notice unless they are truly paying attention to detail, but it’s nice to know they add all of this in as we play along to truly give us an immersive experience.

Conclusion

So far it’s been a great ride, I love every aspect of this game and I recommend it! It’s open world and there are barely any limits to this vast adventure, playing with others and receiving help from different players is a part of the experience and doesn’t feel like a cheat in any shape or form, because the goal is to restore hope to each and every kingdom, together, as the Children of Light.

Sky: Children of Light is finally out on Switch

Sky: Children of Light…is actually here…

We mark the 29th of June as the day ‘That Game Company’ the award-winning company for their game ‘Journey’ in 2013, finally released their mobile game Sky: Children of Light on the Nintendo Switch.

What is Sky: Children of Light?

Sky: Children of Light comes under the ‘wholesome’ games category and was originally released in 2019 for IOS, then 2020 for Android. It’s an open-world exploration game, where a player can go through seven different realms while befriending other players to help them along the way.

The player follows the story of ‘The Children of Light’ who witnesses their world falling apart in seven different realms after the stars fell from the constellations out of the sky. As a part of this group, it is the player’s quest to find all the stars and restore them. This is achieved by exploring the areas, sharing love and light around the kingdoms to awake the ancestors that perished and find out the hidden truth so the stars can be restored. While the storyline is minimal, the concept of becoming friends with different players, chatting and heading out on a great journey, ties it all together.

What about Gameplay?

The world has seven different realms, each of them have a unique theme that represents a stage of life, with a vast of areas to explore. . Throughout the world, the players will encounter “spirits” known as their ancestors, that will also allow them to unlock special items in return for the in-game currency after they’ve been awakened. Players can also collect ‘winged light’, which increases their stamina during flight.

There is a small island that serves as a community hub for players, where they can mingle, chat and befriend each other during their journey. They are also able to send other players gifts, interact and unlock new abilities as their friendship grows. Sky: Children of Light encourages players to make friends and enjoy the journey together, rather than facing it alone.

There are also multiple items to collect such as masks, capes, hairstyles, outfits and musical instruments that allow the player freedom of expression through their character. These items can be obtained by purchasing with real money or with in-game currency.

Sky: Children of Light also have seasonal events, which each have their own unique currency. The currency is called ‘Seasonal Candles’ each seasonal event has a new area to explore in the game, however, each season goes on for a limited amount of time.

The Switch Release of Sky: Children of Light

As we now know, each season goes on for a limited amount of time. We are lucky enough to be receiving the switch release before the big event…The Little Prince Season will be released on the 6th of July 2021. The Little Prince, a book written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The story teaches us a great life lesson through a young prince who visits many planets in space, that includes Earth, but they are addressed as themes such as loneliness, love, friendship and loss.

We have a lot to look forward to following the Nintendo Switch version, fans are excited to see how they will incorporate The Little Prince into gameplay, it will certainly kick the release off to a good start.

Epic Games Store Revealed Their Next Free Title

The Epic Games Store has revealed their next free title.

First comes a puzzle game that follows a bit of a narrative (don’t we all love those? Well, at least I do…) the game is called The Spectrum Retreat and will be free to download from the 1st July to the 8th. If you enjoyed Stanley’s Parable or Superliminal, this game is right up your alley.

This game will replace Horizon Chase Turbo and Sonic Mania, but I would say at a pretty good cost. The Spectrum Retreat is a great experience and something unique to delve yourself into. Currently, Sonic Mania and Horizon Chase Turbo are free to download until the 1st of July from The Epic Games Store website. They usually cost around £15 each, so you’re better off taking advantage of that while you still can.

The Epic Games Store has appealed to over 150 million PC users since launching in 2018, Epic admitted this back in January and it’s there’s no wondering why, they are doing millions of players, money-saving favours. The company gives away free titles weekly which include over 103 game titles in 2020, which no doubt with the global pandemic, did many people therapeutic favours. Overall, the games were worth over £1000, Epic mentions that players in total downloaded over 749 titles in 2020.

Epic Games almost spent £12 million to secure titles for their regular free game titles giveaways in just a nine-month period (Yikes). Epic Games gave 38 games away in the first nine months of the store being up, which included paying the developers a different buyout price. (Aren’t they just the sweetest?) You really can’t go wrong by taking a look at some of the free games they offer each week.
