For the last decade we have been in the constant, time honored tradition of gamers of buying skyrim everytime Todd Howard chooses to release it again. Jokes aside, Skyrim has captured the hearts and minds of thousands across the world. With numerous iconic locations, Distinct NPCs for people to interact with, Serviceable combat and a wealth of Mods for the more deprived individuals, Skyrim is a phenomenon. However, even with it being 10 years old at this point, some players are still managing to uncover new things.

A reddit user recently made the discovery that, in the spinning totem puzzles scattered throughout the game, if you look down at the base of the item you rotate, there is an arrow to indicate which way the thing is facing.

The fact that things like this are still being discovered is surprising and really speaks to the amount of detail Bethesda put in when crafting Skyrim. Recently, the launch of Skyrim anniversary edition has opened up new avenues for players to seek out and discover, with potential new discoveries just on the horizon. However, it may not be too long until Skyrim loses its grip on the industry

While Skyrim has achieved something few games has, with ports spanning multiple generations of consoles, the game is also on its way out in favour of its successor, the as of yet untitled sixth game in the elder scrolls series. We know the game is on its way, as it was unveiled at E3 2018, but we have heard nothing else since. We know that bethesda’s main project in that time has been starfield, so we may well not see any more from Elder scrolls for some time.

The post Skyrim players notice small puzzle detail 10 years later first appeared on Get2Gaming.

Last week Bethesda released Skyrim, again, along with updating special edition to version 1.6. While Bethesda where actively working with SSE’s developers (Skyrim Script Extended, a alternative executable file that is necessary for many mods to work) in the hope of the update not breaking mods too much, the update has caused a serious black screen bug upon loading saves, which has been affecting players who use mods (cause is apparently completing the civil war questline)

There has also been an increase in Freezes, Infinite loading screens, and some PlayStation users are reporting the return of an old glitch that tells them they need to free up 0Kb of system storage to play (this happened 2 years ago and was apparently caused by creation club)

On discord, Bethesda has acknowledged these issues, saying “we are aware of the 0kb error some PS4 players are experiencing as well as the ‘black screen’ issue. The team has been working on a fix for these (it’s taking a little longer than we’d like) and hopes to have them resolved as soon as we can.” a patch is in the works, and should be ready “early next week.

In the meantime, in typical Bethesda fashion, moders have come to the rescue. There is a mod that rolls back everything, reverting the game to version 1.5.87, and work has restarted on EngineFixesSkyrim64, with a version for anniversary edition in beta Right now.

The Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has confirmed that Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls 6 will indeed remain exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem

The Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, in an interview with British GQ, had claimed that The Elder Scrolls 6 exclusivity will be similar to Bethesda’s Starfield. Starfield is a space-themed RPG  shown off earlier in the year, and will soon be available to Xbox consoles and PC.

Spencer had then explained that he believes that he does not want this to be about punishing other platforms, and that he sees all consoles continuing to grow and flourish in the coming years. He says, “…in order to be on Xbox, I want us to be able to bring the full complete package of what we have. And that would be true when I think about Elder Scrolls 6. That would be true when I think about any of our franchises.”

Todd Howard also made a comment about The Elder Scrolls 6, as the game is still deep in development, and that the team’s ultimate goal is the same as it has been since The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Howard says that as people change and technology changes, the vision to transport people to these engaging worlds and fully immerse the player stays the same. With The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda wants to keep the bones of The Elder Scrolls but expand on player immersion like the franchise never has before.

It is likely that the millions of fans that have been holding out hope that The Elder Scrolls 6 might appear on a Sony or Nintendo platform, will feel very disappointed by Bethesda. However, the games industry is a business, and this is a perfect way to have Elder Scrolls fans become enthralled in the Xbox system

The Elder Scrolls 6 is currently in development but has no set release date.

It’s finally here! The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim officially turns ten years old today. Unfortunately, it may be a reminder that we are yet to receive a main series Elder Scrolls game in a decade (though you cant complain about the board game). However, what better time to look back on  an unbelievable thrill ride the last ten years have been.

In order to reiterate this feeling, Bethesda have released a new trailer for their Skyrim Anniversary Edition. It gives us insight as to what joy Skyrim can still offer even after all these years, with added DLC and Creation Club content. Obviously, after ten years they need something to keep us on our toes and purchase the game for a third time, but we’re not fussy. There’s so much to do in the core game anyway that anything on top of that is a complete plus!

The trailer begins with the developers boasting about the games many awards such as the Skyrim’s 200+ Game of the year awards. Words of praise from various publications also appear which are subsequently followed by an invitation to ‘relive the experience’. Skyrim Trailer Puts Attention On Creation Club Content

What a trailer, right? The graphical improvements are just what we needed, and we really can’t wait to get our hands on the release. As you can see, the developers have put a lot of attention into their Creation Club content. If your unfamiliar with this, it is basically Bethesda approved paid mods which are available on PC and console alike. This allows players to have the opportunity for new quests, hidden dungeons and bosses. Furthermore, it seems that four popular creations come bundled with the Skyrim Anniversary Edition.This’ll add exciting new game play elements which we hope won’t result in any repetitive game play. Perfect!

What could one of these bundles be? Apparently, the first one will be Survival Mode, which will give players the chance to fend for themselves in a hardcore environment. In a world full of dragons and trolls, players are going to fight it hard to fight off hunger and survive in such a huge open world. That sounds like a challenge we’re willing to face.

Moreover, the Anniversary Edition will feature fishing creation and the sizeable Saints and Seducers pack. They will also be able to download and play all these creations from Skyrims Special Edition, which includes all the DLC for the original game. There’s enough content here to last a lifetime and that’s how long we intend to play it for. Another decade at the very least.

QuakeCon is heading online again this year but Bethesda has promised a lot of developer panels, in-game rewards, and more.

QuakeCon started 25 years ago as a local gathering of id Software fans and has now transpired to one of the biggest gaming events in North America.

On Thursday, publisher Bethesda released its schedule for the three-day event that starts on August 19 and runs to August 21. It is an online event due to the worldwide pandemic and will be streaming on Bethesda’s Twitch account.

QuakeCon 2021 Schedule

The first event starts at 2PM ET (7PM BST) on the first day with id Software and MachineGames celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Quake game. It is then followed by an in-depth look into upcoming releases and updates such as Deathloop and Fallout 76, which is then followed by an inside look into Elder Scrolls Online and Skyrim retrospectively, followed by an update for Doom Eternal. The day ends with a Fallout 76 endgame guide stream and event-goers have a chance to play the game with UFC’s Rob Whittaker.

The second day starts with a UK stream team build-a-thon for Fallout 76 and is followed by more panels dedicated to Quake and Deathloop. There is then a surprising, yet fun event with WeRateDogs, the popular Twitter account that rates dogs and has over 9 million followers. Other events in the day include more panels on Elder Scrolls Online, a 10th-anniversary interactive panel for Skyrim, and an exclusive music performance by Trivium.

The final day begins with a Doom Eternal “Prayer vs Slayer” and another UK stream team event but this time focusing on Elder Scrolls. There will also be a Doom Eternal Community Bonanza, followed by Fallout 76 CAMP Love it or Nuke it. The last two events of the QuakeCon will be the Quake World Championship Grand Finals and Live Art Creation of Elder Scrolls Online.

In addition to the panels and events, eventgoers can enter to win prizes by watching the streams. Doom Eternal players will have access to free unique skins, badges, and more by logging in between August 19 and September 2. Quake Champions players can also do this until August 21. Meanwhile, Elder Scrolls Online players get bonus in-game rewards for watching at least 15 minutes of the stream after linking their Twitch and ESO accounts.

Bethesda is also celebrating QuakeCon 2021 with sales of 60-85% off on select titles.

Everything we know so far…

The sequel to the classic RPG Skyrim has been shrouded in secrecy since its announcement in 2018. Another E3 has passed us, and once again, we did not hear anything new regarding the upcoming Elder Scrolls instalment. All we know for sure right now is that the game is definitely still in development. It is nearing 10 years since the game’s predecessor, Skyrim was released,  and 3 years since the successor was announced. Yet, we have not received even a rough release date.

From E3, 2021, we found out that Bethesda is currently focusing on its upcoming Sci-Fi RPG, Starfield. Bethesda’s Todd Howard confirmed that the game will indeed be coming after Starfield. Starfield is due for a November 2022 release date. This, alongside the fact that Howard also recently said to consider Elder Scrolls 6 as still in the ‘design phase’, means we likely won’t see Elder Scrolls 6 until at the earliest late 2024. Realistically, the wait could even be a couple of years longer than that, depending on where they really are in the production process. Ultimately, the wait for Elder Scrolls 6 is likely to be a long one, longer than anything we had anticipated after the announcement in 2018.

A troubling thought for PlayStation fans of the Elder Scrolls franchise is the possibility of the new instalment being an Xbox exclusive after waiting all this time. Bethesda is now owned by Microsoft, and worryingly, Xbox boss Phil Spencer affirmed that any future Bethesda games will be exclusive to platforms “where Game Pass exists” (i.e. Xbox and PC). We have seen this come to fruition with Starfield’s avoidance of the Sony console. However, it is not all doom and gloom for PlayStation users. It is possible that Elder Scrolls may not fall under this ‘Xbox Game Pass’ exclusivity umbrella if Sony has already secured the games on its platform. As also noted by Spencer, “there are contractual obligations that we’re going to see through, as we always do in every one of these instances.”

Game content…

All we have received (officially) thus far is as little as a logo (see below).

We do, however, know that Elder Scrolls 6 will utilise Bethesda’s recently overhauled Creation Engine, as will Starfield. Speaking at the Develop: Brighton conference, Todd Howard stated it’s been “a significant overhaul,” adding that “it’s taken us longer than we would have liked, but it’s going to power everything we’re doing with Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6. When people see the results, they’ll hopefully be as happy as we are with what’s on the screen and also how we can go about making our games.”

In general, we can expect improved graphics and bugginess, more fluid combat (taking advantage of new consoles) and, lastly, replayability. During an interview with IGN, Howard noted that in the same manner as Skyrim, they aim to make a game that players play for the next decade.

Where will Elder Scrolls 6 be set?

It is likely that, as with the last games, the new instalment will also be set in the continent of Tamriel. Maybe a new unexplored region of Tamriel? Valenwood, Elsweyr and Black Marsh are the biggest places left to explore. On the other hand, the game may revisit some old regions such as High Rock, Hammerfell, Morrowind, Cyrodil, and Skyrim.

My “Top Ten” Video Game Soundtracks

Do enjoy a list of ten of my current all time favourite video game soundtracks!

If there’s one thing we have to remember, it’s that you don’t have to be an avid gamer to enjoy some of the glorious masterpieces that accompany these games.. Although I very much enjoy a lot of “tapping” myself. Here are ten of my personal favourites and I hope you all find at least half a second of a piece that you enjoy!

At NO. 10 we have ‘Deadly Premonition’, which was composed by Riyou Kinugasa, Takuya Kobayashi and Hiromi Mizutari. For a seemingly dark and Twin Peaks-ey type of game, the soundtrack is miraculously cheery! I’ve chosen the piece ‘Life is Beautiful’, which plays throughout the game and is horrendously catchy. Give it a listen and I’m sure you’ll agree! You can listen to it HERE.

In at NO.9 we have the infamous ‘Minecraft’ soundtrack, which was composed by Daniel Rosenfeld or, by his alias, C418. This very ambient, dreamy music will aid you in building castles, unnecessarily blowing up animals, spawning copious amounts of villagers and randomly dotting lava about their villages. I, for one, use to it get to sleep at night and occasionally to work to… Which I should probably stop due to my head greeting desk quite violently. You can listen to it HERE. 

At NO.8 we have the ‘Uncharted’ franchise, whose music was composed by Greg Edmonson. ‘Drake’s Fortune’ saw a revolution in graphics for the PS3 and the soundtrack accompanied it’s glory perfectly! Not to mention that Nate is quite the catch.. Just saying! Anyway, you can listen to Nate’s Theme from ‘Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune’ HERE.

In at NO.7 we have ‘Mass Effect’. Go2Games is Commander Shepherd’s favourite shop on the Citadel! I only speak the truth… Quite an emotional game was ‘Mass Effect 2’ I found, and this specific piece of music which is aptly named ‘Final Conversation’, composed by Christopher Lennertz, gave me a quivering bottom lip. Before I realised, it was too late.. I was bawling into my mug of Horlicks. Listen to the track HERE!

NO.6 sees ‘Halo 3’. This is definitely my favourite out of the franchise. I can’t quite remember the full reason for it being my favourite, but all I know is that I formed an unhealthy obsession with the Gravity Hammer.. This piece is called ‘Unforgotten’ and was composed by Martin O’Donnell, who has composed previously and beyond in the Halo series. This is my favourite piece from the game, HERE.

Bang in the middle at NO.5 is ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’, which was composed by Jeremy Soule. This game is addictive and has lots of dragons in it, so the theme is also aptly named ‘Dragonborn’. Enjoy the dragon sandwich HERE. Quick.. To Alduin’s Wall!

Sliding in at NO.4 (because I want to sound like a radio dj) is ‘Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children’. Now I did enjoy this and I can’t quite believe it was released all the way back in 1997. So many, many Vincent Valentines ago! I thought that the piece ‘Aerith’s Theme’, by Nobuo Uematsu, was beautiful when I first heard it. However, I have been a bit cheeky and posted the orchestral version from the film as it’s just too lovely! I’m sure you’ll agree and you can lend your ears HERE.

Nearly there.. Sorry about all of is! In at NO.3 is ‘Bioshock’. This is definitely one of my favourite game franchises and, being an avid fan of music from the 20’s and 30’s,  I fell in love even more with ‘Bioshock 1 & 2’. The underwater city of Rapture, Big Daddies, Little Sisters and the 1920’s décor really brought a grand element to the series. I’m not shunning ‘Infinite’ though! That game was equally as excellent. The soundtracks were composed by Garry Schyman, but I’ve chosen ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ by Bobby Darin, which is featured in ‘Bioshock’. Hear HERE!

Almost first but not quite, it’s World of Warcraft in at NO.2, with music composed by Jason Hayes. I don’t think that there is one person I know who DOESN’T enjoy the wonderful world of Warcraft?! There is no other game in which you can become so immersed, so enchantingly lost in and make lifelong friends at the same time (true story). You’ll also find that some of the best costumes at comic and video game conventions are born from WoW. Here we have Enchanted Forest music from this masterpiece. HERE you go!

The finale… Finally! The NO.1 spot goes to American McGee’s ‘Alice: Madness Returns’; the sequel to McGee’s ‘Alice’, which was released in 2000. The music was composed by Marshall Crutcher and it has the best soundtrack EVER!! (According to me). I could play this game over and over for all eternity and I wouldn’t be bored. It’s dark, twisted, gothic and laced with Steampunk and a few marvellously bronzed cogs here and there! If you see anyone dressed up as Alice on the street then come over and say hello! Here is the ‘Main Theme’ for you to endlessly enjoy HERE.

Of course there are many, many more that I’d love to share with you, but I don’t want you all getting bored and I was told that I could only do ten anyway.. *Runs after everyone in sight with Gravity Hammer*.
